Hanukah Question

So our family is going to be in WDW during the end of Hanukah this year. It is our first visit during the holiday season and we are looking forward to seeing all the holiday decorations and festivities even though we know they will all be geared towards Christmas. In fact we did not really expect any acknowledgment of Hanukah, but then I noticed a comment somewhere about a candle-lighting in the resorts during the nights of Hanukah. Does anyone know if that actually does take place? In ALL Disney resorts? What about in the parks - does anything occur? We're not overly religious when it comes to Hanukah, but it'd be kind of cool to see something done for it while we're at Disney. Thanks in advance!

Someone asked this question to the Mom's panel in 2010 so the information may be outdated but at least it's something!

You will see many great reminders of the Hanukkah celebration throughout the parks and the resorts. Hanukkah is recognized through several songs during the Candlelight Processional and in the past there has been an area of the American Adventure rotunda designated for the understanding of other celebrations such as Hanukkah and Kwanza. Hanukkah merchandise can also be found throughout the parks and property stores.

When you check-in at your resort please ask the concierge for an update on any further Hanukkah happenings. Things change quickly with the holidays and from year to year a new things are added in the parks and resorts. The holiday line ups have not been published yet for 2010 but that should be coming soon!

Thanks! I will definitely ask at our resort upon check-in. We're staying at CBR so maybe they'll sing the Hanukah candle-lighting prayers to steel drums! LOL

One of the Epcot storytellers in the American Adventure pavilion tells the story of Hannukah.

That would be really cool to see. We'll definitely have to swing by on our day at EPCOT.

Thanks everyone!

The Voices of Liberty also have a Hanukkah medley in their holiday repertoire.

I recall seeing a menorah in Downtown Disney too, but it's been at least 5 years since I've been to WDW in December.

How cool about the Voice of Liberty medley. I never expected there to be as much recognition of Hanukah as you guys are telling me about. Thanks.

There is precious little recognition of Hanukkah. Exactly enough to be PC, but, much like most Jews, Disney does not make it a big, giant celebration.

I have never seen them light a menorah. Doesn't mean they don't, but I haven't seen it.

With the exception of the Candlelight Processional and possibly the Hanukkah merchandise, all celebrating and merchandise is excessively secular.
