I just saw on IMDB where disney is working on an upcoming animation project called "ENCHANTED". This movie will be done in the original hand drawn format and looks very very promising, FYI, its a princess movie. Anyway my question is does this mean we will see the old days return to mgm by seeing artist hard at work making movies, like we did with aladdin, beauty and the beast, lion king, ect ect. Heres the link on IMDB.....

JMO....This would be awesome for MGM and attendance at the animation studios, A must see!!! Radiohost:cool:

p.s.....Heres the description of the movie. A princess-in-waiting (Amy Adams) is banished by an evil queen from the cartoon world of Andalasia to the hardened world of present-day New York

Yays! Things really are turning around! All we need is a huge overhaul to Disney Channel and Dreamfinder back in Epcot(with Dreamseekers and Sage of Time coming back as well, because you can never go wrong with them, except for horrible rhyming in the ToD script)

i read this too from imdb. great news, i just hope its quality work and story. if they bring animators back to mgm studios, it would make the tour a whole lot less pointless.

Yeah, its a traditional Princese movie with a twist. Its starts with traditional cel animation that we all know and love, however when she is banished from the Fantasy Land world, she moves onto a live action world of modern day technology and society and has to find her way back. Disney have been trying to get this green lit for YEARS. Its Supposed to start out like Snow White with the typical princess, and then as she spends more time in the "real world' she becomes more intouch with "Modern society'.

Disney are expecting this to be a Pirates calibre movie, I.e. summer blockbuster, so expect Park tie-ins and merchandising till teh comes come home. Oh much like Stitch....

I agree, we must wait and see how this turns out before we celebrate. I say, wait for a few more confirmations, and its bound to be true. But if this is true, I will be the happiest person on earth.

Well if you check IMDB.com for James Baxter you will see that he is listed as the supervising animator for "Enchanted". James Baxter used to work for TWDC (1988), then Dreamworks SKG (1996).....and then he made a leap to his own studio (2005). So yes 2-D has made its way back to TWDC in a way, but it isn't really being done at TWDC...."Enchanted" was hired out to the James Baxter Animation studios and his workers.

I think any 2-D is good for Disney. However, for it to be the Disney and a blockbuster will take a bit more time. Regardless, this sounds promising for 2-D as a whole!

Jim Hill has tones and tones of articles about it. Go search his site.

But anyway, the movie has been in development hell since Who Frames Roger Rabbit? was released. The movie has had many different directors, scripts, and at one point, the princess character would have accidently gone to a Bacchelor party and be mistaken as the stripper.

This movie's success won't be based on whether there is 2D animation or not...

When it all comes down to it...it's all going to fall on the acting. If Lindsay Lohan or Hillary Duff is the princess...is there any possible way for this movie to come out good? Disney has a knack for casting lackluster stars for their movies (Their "big" movies turn out good (Pirates, Miracle, Remember the Titans, etc.) but look at Freaky Friday, Herbie Fully Loaded, Ice Princess, The Haunted Mansion, Country Bears, etc.)

I would love to see some hand-drawn animation back at Disney. I doubt that we'll see the animators at MGM though if those currently working on the project are settled in Anaheim.

One page and nobody has slagged off the source - "Jim Hill"

I hope we get to see some traditional, high quality animation.

i would just like to point out that animation 2d and 3d has not left MGM it is just not in a place accessible to the public. there is a 6 story building on the backlot dedicated to animation.

I have to also agree on this here...I went on the so called "Animation" Tour at MGM and I was soooo Dissapointed...Why would they want to re-redo the animation area again just to see hand drawn animation since Orlando's, Japan's, Paris, and Austraila's Studios were gone? The only place they do this is in California...and I guarentee if they had anything It's just going to be a place to see artist work on gallery art and that alone is such a dissapointment...I wished I had a chance to see the original tour *Sigh*

If Idina Menzel is in it like IMDB says, it will be a good movie, she is amazing. I really hope this movie turns out well. Disney's hasn't had a real hit animated movie for a while now, hopefully this could change that. 2D animation is a really unique process and film type that I hope this movie can breathe some life into.
