Politics aside, it being closed just saves Disney money and spreads the people that would go in it to other rides.
Yes, but it's a pretty decent people eater. Helps to soak up lines from other attractions. While not nearly as popular as I would hope the shows in the new Main Street Theatre will be, it still takes a few hundred people out of other rides. Despite any potential political uproars, I'd suspect the suits would rather pay for 3-4 CMs to deal with a few hundred people than having to build a new ride that takes more CMs to operate and handles less guests.
