Rumor Hall of Presidents Replaced by Muppets American History Show???

If Vice President Kamala Harris is elected President, then she will be the first woman, the second Black American, and the first Asian American to occupy the office. The closure of The Hall of Presidents prior to or during her presidency would seem to conflict with the efforts of the Stories Matter initiative.
If it closes and there isn't an AA, look for a REALLY REALLY LARGE exhibit in the American Adventure first floor.

If they ever decide to close or dramatically change the attraction, which has been a rumour forever, they just need to announce it at the start of a presidency.

The same discussion occurred when Obama was running. Closing it just before potentially electing the first black president would be a bad look.

If they announce a future closing in say, February 2025, then they can't be accused of doing so based on partisan politics nor ignoring a historical election, because it wouldn't have happened yet.

Putting the Muppets in the Hall of Presidents would be like having Family Guy characters host Spaceship Earth. You'd be taking an attraction that once had dignity to it and turning it into a comedic spoof. And I doubt modern Disney writers could whip up anything as good as MuppetVision, or even the Great Moments in American History show.

Hall Presidents should have been replaced when EPCOT opened. The bicentennial was over and people didn’t have the same respect for the office as they had pre-Watergate, plus American Adventure fills pretty much the same niche. Keep Lincoln somewhere if you have to.

Then we could have gotten a Sleepy Hollow attraction in that space when WDW still may have considered giving a property that niche a ride.

I'm 100% on board with Hall of Presidents being removed. Great Moments in American History with the Muppets was a fun show along the roof tops. If they do a theatrical stage show with Muppet puppets in the Liberty Square theater, I'm on board. Failing that, a re-theme of all of Liberty Square (perhaps being absorbed into Fantasyland) should be on the table.

Not to turn this political, but some would argue that the office of the presidency also once had dignity but that it too was turned into a comedic spoof.

Very simple. Friday night news dump before the election:
  • We are closing the Hall of Presidents after Christmas.
  • We are closing Muppet*Vision after Christmas.
  • We are beginning construction of Monstropolis in early 2025.
  • We are developing an all new show for the Hall of Presidents theater featuring the Muppets set to open in 2026.
That could be handled in a tweet.

Um, okay, so you're saying that the Presidency of the United States has become such a joke that we might as well use Muppets to represent it.

This perhaps isn't the win you think it is.:depressed:

If Iger decides to do this, that'd be the nail in the coffin for many. It'd be astronomical cringe.

And may I remind you, that puppet show in the windows along Liberty Square was cancelled. It was very cheap to produce, yet it was cancelled. Surely Disney wouldn't have done that if it were popular...?

My comment was a tongue in cheek comment. I think The Hall of Presidents is a well done show that received significant updates 8 years ago. With that said, I've only seen it in person twice since those updates.

It's not a draw, it's divisive, and in general people don't want to think about anything tangentially related to politics while on vacation.

If the Muppets are moving into that theater, my approval of that action is as a fan of the Muppets and the expectation that it will be a step up from a known entity (Great Moments in American History) that I also enjoyed.

I'm also under the assumption that the Muppets are also being evicted from DHS.

If the question is what do I truly want to see happen?

  • I've wanted Hall of Presidents to go away for quite some time. It has been divisive pretty much since Bill Clinton was added.
  • I want the Muppets to have a presence in the parks, and that's potentially at risk.
Using the Muppets to tell lighthearted versions of American History is an option that has recently been done. It also addresses both of my bullet points. To your point, they cancelled the Great Moments in American History show. It should be noted that the show was cancelled a month before the parks shut down for COVID, but your point is still a valid one.

For what it's worth, I would also accept Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln and Great Moments with Mr. Disney as a rotating show in this space, but I don't think that would be as popular as a Muppets attraction.

Don’t jump the shark. That’s at least 10 years away.
Not even opposed to Seth McFarlane narrating SSE... He does have a voice that'd keep attention on the ride really well.

Anyway I expect Liberty Square to be absorbed into Fantasyland by the end of the 2030s if this doesn't happen and Haunted Mansion to be absorbed into villains/a Sleepy Hollow-esque mini-land to transition.

Sorry if I’m crossing a line but anyone who thinks the Hall of Presidents is divisive doesn’t belong in this country.

It celebrates the history and achievements of our nation - and the men we, as a nation, have elected to lead us.

Every President on that stage deserves to be on stage for the simple reason we as a collective nation trusted them to lead us and that each of them led us to where we are right now.

On top of that - Walt Disney himself wanted the parks to be about the “
the ideals, the dreams and the hard facts that have created America”

Case in point!
“Boy this is even worse then time we bought a figment popcorn bucket”
Insert cutaway gag of Peter running away, bucket in hand, from a zombie like horde of fat people on strollers.

Add cutaways like that below the hall of presidents stage to keep people paying attention, tiktok style.

There are a lot of haters of HOP, I guess I forget WDW is an international destination.

Disney is going to do what Disney is going to do. At a minimum I hope we don't lose another theater attraction.
Perhaps following in the footsteps of SHD, DLP, HKDL, TDL. I don't recall if those international locations have a hall of presidents .

As I said, Disney will do what Disney will do.

Forums like this try to rationalize the stupid decisions Disney makes so they don’t seem so stupid.

We are going to lose Muppets. I hope we don’t lose another theater attraction. They are great to rest and get out of the heat.

Seth McFarlane does have a good narrative voice and realistically any rehab of SSE will be IP based unless they do a new sponsorship.

The fact Liberty Square has lasted this long is in part a minor miracle since we know modern Disney and TDO probably wants it jettisoned. My guess is by 2030 it’ll be absorbed into one of the 3 neighboring lands. Though I actually think the more modernist stylized Cars national park may make sense too.
