Guess nothing happened with the MGM name change??

Wow... What hostility.

My guess is that after the term of the contract is up (whenever that may be), both parties have the option to pull out of the agreement. During the process of writing up the contract, you would think that there would be some expectation that the partnership would still be mutually beneficial. If that was the case, I wouldn't be surprised if it was written into the contract that both parties can continue the partnership if it is mutually agreed upon.

Right, he admitted he didn't know if there were any stipulations AFTER I CALLED HIM OUT ON IT. He says its a twenty year contract. I'll take his word for it. However, when did the twenty years start? I'm sure it wasn't 20 years from the day the contract is signed. First, because businesses don't do contracts like that. They pick a date (usually like the start of their fiscal year or the start of a month) and call that the first day of the contract. In this case, I would guess it would be twenty years after the opening of the park. In that case, we have four years before we have to worry about this.

When I said that I was right, I meant that the name did not change on June 28th, just I said it wouldn't. I didn't say anything else, so do not try to speak for me. He was wrong. Now he's trying to backtrack.

But dude, this is something you do all the time.. You always try to make everyone else wrong and you are always right. I don't think anyone on here expected a name change on June 28th. If there was going to be a name change, signs of it would have been coming weeks ago. I think he assumed the contract ran form June 27 1985 to June 27 2005... Maybe he shouldn't have assumed. And maybe your notion that the contract probably stated when the park opened is correct.. Actually, if there is this 20 year contract, I wouldn't doubt it began when the park opened...

This matter is always going to be debated until a name change occurs, if it ever occurs... I just wish Thrawn that you be more tactful when responding to someone's post about rumors or their feelings toward what may or may not occur.... Everyone's opinion is welcome, but no one should be ridiculed for posting their feelings about things...

If no one expected a name change on June 28, why did the thread start around that time?

I read many many of these threads where Thrawn gets beat up over what he says, but unless we're reading different words, he tries to use logic to discuss/dispute rumors, without ever stating that he knows this is fact.... Have I missed something? I've seen no ridiculing, except towards Thrawn.

The words may be blunt, but so what, who is the clairvoyant one among us that can truly hear context out of simple text?

Regardless, he is correct about most binding contracts that there is a terms and conditions included that states period of activitiy and the date it takes effect. Very rarely are the date of effect and the date signed the same date. If someone who has read the contract or has a copy of it could post it here, that would end the speculation on both sides. Until then neither is right and neither is proven wrong, and the only thing we do know is that the name didn't change, and people don't get mad at those with Mickey in their avatar when they are in an argument.... :lookaroun

A lot of people expected a name change. Case in point is the "tower of terror" thread that just started, and the first sentence is "with the pending MGM name change..." There are many, many other threads that allude to the magical June 28th date. A LOT of people though it was going to change. A LOT of people were wrong.

Reading the forum rules, I do not see anything about being tactful, or posting in a certain way. Further, I have never been PMed or contacted by any moderator, administrator, or other forum staff about my posting style or habits.

I just wish that people would stop trying to think they are somehow better than me and can tell me how I should post.

The fact is this: Whenever I get attacked in a thread, be it this one, or the infamous monorail thread, I AM RIGHT with the facts present at the time, and I have presented logical reasoning as to why. What is martin's reasoning? That the contract was signed on a certain day? That means nothing. ESPECIALLY considering that it is now past June 28, and nothing is different.

I read somewhere that the contract was ending sometime this year and the park was going to be renamed "Disney Studios Florida" to sync it with the Paris counter part. I don't recall the article mentioning anything about if/when there would be any sign or logo changes.

Well, if I can get back to the original topic...

as a Disney/MGM studios CM, I haven't heard word one from anyone about any change to the name as of right now...

If it's worth anything, I still say "Disney/MGM studios" when I talk with guests, and noone has told me to stop! :hammer:

All I have ever said is the date when the original contract was signed and how long it ran for. Nothing more - anything else I have discussed is pure speculation, gossip and rumour (hence this board) and was in said context.

I`ve never said the name WOULD change on x date, only the original contract would run out on x date. Simple. I don`t like bickering, but I don`t like being directly targeted either. We all all here for the same reason. There`s worse things to worry about in life.

Wow it turns out Im still a member of this site after all that time...
Just thought I would post my two pennies worth, it seems that these are forums created by disney fans to talk about interesting topics pertaining to disney. Its something we choose to do and want to do, the best way to stop people getting angry with each other is to never get personal, no one has the right to say to one person it being absurd etc because these are sites where opinions are exchanged. And lets be honest in the grand scheme of it being mad keen disney fans sometimes feels pretty absurd to me when we are grown up...yet I keep going!

Certainly from reading these forums extensively and other ones on line there is a vast amount of people with incredible knowledge and passion, sometimes the latter stands in for the former and thats understandable I guess.

Ah well take care and peace..... ;)

So hold on let me get this right........

The matterhorn will not sink if they drain the sub lagoon at DL

The Ulitidoors did not fall apart when they drained the 20,000 lagoon

No WMD in the Castle at MK

They can not take aprt the castle in case of a huge strom

They are not making BK in DAK right now

They have not shut down the GMR to make some amazing new thing inside

The wand at E.P.C.O.T. Center (I will never change that) is not coming down next week

DCA is not closing to "retheme" because of all the money it has lost

Spaceship Earth is not closing down to put in a thrill ride

Wonders of Life is still closed and not being changed

CoP is still going strong

TK is still closed and not being turned into bumper cars

AND

Dinsey-MGM Studios is still Disney-MGM Studios

What ever shall we do for a rumor now??????? Things happen every day we, as much as we love the parks, do not run them or have any say on what happens. We find a rumor and grab on to it for ever until it either happens or is proven as a rumor. Lets all let it go and move on to actually things happening and not attack each other. Someone said something about not being a fact till it is being poured in cement. Which is 100% ture until they change there mind half way through....anyone remember Copperfilds place at DISNEY-MGM Studios?????????

Two points:

Good point Jerm, but actually TK is open right now :) Atleast until the 5th!

Second, if they do make a name change, it will be known by the Cast as it was when EPCOT Center (you don't actually need the periods) became merely Epcot and the nomenclature became a mandate.

Pumbas Nakasak

Heading for the great escape.
Third

The WMD have only been moved thanks to the blabber mouths on here. Lets just hope the dont let slip that there being held (temporarily) for maintenance in Wonders of Life Pavillion, before being moved to Everest.

Not to stir up further heated arguments, but I just wanted to point out something that I found interesting. In the profile for Sounds Dangerous-Starring Drew Carey on the Cast Portal, the participant is listed as Sony. This information was last updated on 06/17/04, so I don't know if it's still true, but I just wanted to pass this along. Feel free to dissect or disregard as desired.
