Judging by the renaming of Hollywood Pictures Backlot to Hollywood Land, changes currently happening at DHS, and the rumored plans for DSP, I seriously doubt that's the direction they're taking.
It's pure conjecture on my part, but after Little Mermaid, Cars Land, the changing of Soarin, and GotG and the incoming Marvel Land, it sure feels like the "California" theme is losing its luster.

Yeah, I don't think that can be argued. However looking at the changes and saying it's morphing into a studio park, at least in the traditional sense of what the term means, is a stretch.

Given the relatively severe space constraints at DLR and its scaled version down ride it made sense for Disney to abandon DCA's ToT and replace it with something that appears to be arguably better AND aligned with the Marvel acquisition. In contrast, with almost endless acreage to play with at WDW, there are a hundred ways the Imagineers can incorporate the various Marvel franchises in Florida without touching ToT - from new dining experiences to new hotels to new theme park rides - that would be impossible in Anaheim.

The TOT at the DLR was much more polished and enjoyable than the DHS version. Why get rid of the better version, especially when it fits the story of the park. DHS is a Studio park, so it makes much more sense to add a Marvel ride here as it fits the theme of a Studio park. The 5th Dimension Hallway also yields more opportunity for sets/AAs, giving this attraction the room it needs.

And why not just build a new original attraction? Obviously, that is preferred, but WDW tends to be a bit cheap and it is much cheaper to just retheme TOT and use the existing footage from DCA's retheme than it is to build from ground up. Also, the DHS Tower is showing its age and needs an update. Currently, it's the best thing in a bad park, but once Star Wars Land opens and Pandora fleshes out, TOT will stand out as being very dated technology-wise. We know WDW hates updating tech, so a retheme gives them the excuse.

Also, the Sunset Blvd area throws off the balance of the new park, in my opinion. Hollywood entrance into a world of movies. You have Star Wars, Muppets, Toy Story, and Sunset Blvd. Which one of those doesn't belong? I love TOT, but it just makes too much sense for DHS to follow suit.

I like the chaotic feeling of the ride but I just wish they stopped you in the show scenes for a little bit longer. It seems like you're zooming away before you can take anything in (which I realize is kind of the point, but it's a little annoying).

Yeah, and the music I think kind of detracts. I'd love to see the music integrated more effectively instead of just over the top of everything. It seems like nothing really happens in the ride. We go up the power room, it goes out quickly, then we go up to the next level and see chaos. Lift moves around and we see more chaos. See Disneyland. What happens if I touch this, we move around more. Then they are free. And apparently take forever to escape as they are still chatting as the elevator crashes down and pulls in.

Its fun, but its aimless. I feel like I have no purpose on this attraction and I'm just watching everyone have fun. I wish they would have embraced the idea of us on a mission more. Seems our mission ends before the elevator doors close when we lift our hand. After that, we're just voyeurs.

I definitely understand what you mean there. I thought there would be more/longer vignettes and that we would be more involved. A scene where we actually see some more action or the guardians breaking out would have added to it a lot.

Story-wise though I guess it's not too out of character for Rocket to use us for what he needs and then kinda toss us away and finish the job himself. :hilarious:

While its up in the air at the moment, its still thought that Ellen's Energy Adventure will be turned into a Guardians attraction.

Well that is only one profile. I'm wondering if the other 5 profiles will be more involved with regards to what we see. Which is 5 more than what ToT showed us. So that in itself is a big plus for me. More to experience and more repeatability.

Other than the Hollywood Backlot (undeniably a part of California), which barely even resembles a backlot or anything a studio would offer aside from the few set pieces and the animation building, what makes you say that?
I just feel the California theme slipping away with each new addition. Maybe "studios" park isn't the right term, but the park is undergoing a thematic shift.

I'm guessing similar but different, just like the differences in Indiana Jones. A scene will be more Groot heavy rather than Drax heavy. A scene will have this creature attacking vs the other creature. Different quips and chess pieces, but the same basic concepts.

And is that a bad thing? In my opinion no. A theme park with a California theme located in California has always been weak to me. That would be like them building a theme park with a Florida theme in WDW.

So less California and more other themes are fine for me.

World of Pandora looks incredible (and expensive), Toy Story Playland appears to be the most elaborate one to date, and it goes without saying that SW Land will set a new bar for immersive theme park storytelling. Disney has a lot more ways to integrate GoTG and Marvel in Florida than it did in California and I think given the value of the IP they won't skimp when they decide to move forward.

Naturally when we're speculating anything is possible, but for Marvel IP in Florida I'm expecting a much bigger statement than a redo of ToT. The Marvel expansion of TL at HKDL comes to mind:
