Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind SPOILER Thread

Nope. It’s a “fun coaster”. Because that’s totally all the park needed after 20+ years of neglect and deterioration. A “fun” “coaster”.
And hey, they have another $400M laying around for the next thing, so this was just a placeholder until the REAL attraction gets built.

Is there more than 6 songs? Wasn't Cherry Bomb rumored at one point?
It was rumoured originally as being part of the list months ago. And recently it was changed with the finalised playlist from what I’ve heard. Second hand info… so take with a grain of salt.

Search Cosmic Rewind on Twitter then click latest and you will see basically all the reviews there from earlier.
I've done that. They tend to be vague enthusiasm that makes no mention of theming or particular visuals. The most common refrain is comparing it to Space Mountain and RnR, which does little to dispel the idea that the ride is not particularly unique. No one doubts that this will be a fun coaster - its just that, as the staggeringly expensive cornerstone of EPCOT's 25-year overdue redesign, it was fair to expect more.

Is there a particular review you have seen that praises the visuals and theming? Could you link it?

Would like to clarify a previous statement. I’m hearing that 9-5 by Dolly Parton is SUPPOSEDLY part of the exit soundtrack.

But NONE of this can be confirmed until we get to ride it ourselves. Cast members might be playing games with DisTwitter.

A “fun” coaster that’s a 42” and being compared to space mountain from a physics standpoint. I’ll want to see In the flesh.

It sounds a lot like gringotts to me. Without the 3D.

Not a bad ride in that case…not a great one either. I expect this to fall In that lane somewhere.

They need the rides…for sure. But I have a feeling Epcot after the “major upgrades” will be like mgm…

Aka “wanting”.

As usual…I do hope I’m wrong.

I think this is one of the best, most detailed threads I've seen so far about the ride....

This seems to indicate that there is some substantial, impressive projection effects in the main ride portion. Interesting that he says it’s not really even like a coaster, more like a fast moving Doom Buggy.

I’m all for criticizing Disney when appropriate (which is plenty often), but maybe hold off on saying it’s just a big, un-themed coaster until more info comes out?

I'm sure royalties would be good, but this is a curious choice given the Dolly has her own competing theme parks.

If the visuals and theming - you know, the things Disney is known for - are extraordinary, you’d expect some folks would say that. Saying that a coaster is “fun” isn’t saying much - most coasters are “fun.” Even the positive reviews here are essentially saying it’s Rock N Roller Coaster v2, which for what this ride cost, seems… questionable. Where did all the money go?
These are the questions true Disney park fans need to ask? Why are they replacements? Why does it take so long? Why does it cost so much? What was the goal?

But right…you’re a “spoiled brat” if you don’t love it…like the homage to the bad reboot over at studios.
I really like RnR too. But Disney seems to want to build RnR over and over again - at a price tag (I believe) of $450 million.
I said this a couple weeks ago on another thread: the best thing about rockinroller was that it was a rather simple idea that was built quickly and efficiently and is more than the sum of its parks. If this is the same kinda jam 20 years later at 10x the price…I’m honestly not sure what WDI is even doing anymore?

Do they play all the songs listed? Or is it randomized, a la Mission Breakout?

So basically this is space mountain but with a launch & better projections?

That seems overly dismissive. I think the comparisons to Space Mt (and RNR) have more to do with the type of experience it is than the execution. Rides are inevitable going to be described as comparisons to the most similar experiences in order to provide context as to what to expect.

More specifically, it sounds like there is a lot of (high quality) video scenes throughout the ride and more of a plot/story than those other rides. And there are some physical set pieces that you travel around. Whether those elements (and whatever happens in the pre-show which we don't know yet) are enough to really differentiate this ride and make it truly impressive is still a bit up in the air.

I get the Gringott's comparison. I think that also has to factor in cost. Based on adjustments for inflation, an equally fair comparison would be the entirety of the Diagon Alley expansion to Cosmic Rewind. They are roughly in the same ballpark.
