Now that things are looking a little brighter for them attendance-wise, I wonder if they'll aim to have it open before Memorial Day weekend (the unofficial start of summer, in late-May) of 2022, or if that's still too early...

I feel like it's a solid c-ticket ride (not an insult) that gets treated like an e-ticket. That's my major beef.
We got what we got (screens in a large weakly themed room) due to a budget and limited space.
I'll give them credit that the two-sided design of the cars with flat panels having screens on both sides was an effective way to maximize the use of space but it was designed with a very limited attention to detail to the space you're in beyond the screens and that's very apparent when you're being whisked to the next set of screens around a corner.
Some of that could be improved today with a modest budget if they wanted to do it and I kind of hoped with the TS land addition, they might do a little to plus this one but funny enough, as a ten year old attraction designed for a cramped existing space, it somehow still managed to be the crown jewel of a brand new land.
Continuing to pull in the numbers it does, from a business perspective, I guess there's really no reason to do more with it.
Anyway, no pitchforks for me on this one. I'm not sorry it replaced Who Wants to be a Millionaire and I'm not calling for it to be torn down or anything but I think it's a fun little ride that would not be nearly as popular today as it is if Disney had been keeping up with needed growth and improvement in Hollywood Studios along with the other three parks all along.
Anyway, why are we all talking about TSMM here? Isn't this the space we should be arguing about the redhead scene from Pirates?

I have a friend who works in EPCOT and their leader says they're still opening GotG in 2021. I highly doubt that, but could there be any truth to it? I told my friend I've heard Spring 22 at the earliest and he insists its still this year.

Anything’s possible, it’s just very very very improbable and would cost a lot of money for something that ultimately wouldn’t benefit them at all.

They want to space out the openings, so with Rat opening 10/1, there is no way they are going to open another marquee attraction a month later, at the same park.
Here is my prediction:
Oct 1st, 2021 - Rat - Official
March 2022 - Tron - Still opens during actual 50th anniversary year.
Oct 1st, 2022 - Guardians for Epcot's 40th

general public usually knows more, or at least our elite group on here lol. And half the time you can ask a castmember in a store where is such and such and they have no idea what your talking about,,,but there it is around the corner.

Man, the ride isn't even open yet and those set pieces are already in horrible shape. That one is all banged up!
Seems to be par for the course with Disney attractions. You should have seen the Haunted Mansion on day one. Cobwebs and dust everywhere. Absolutely disgraceful.

This is purely anecdotal, but I was listening to the RetroWDW podcast recently and they were discussing attractions and lands (Batuu specifically) being designed in a "distressed" state from the get-go. The reason? Less needed upkeep to maintain it's "show".
