News Guardians of the Galaxy Cosmic Rewind attraction confirmed for Epcot

The trick is to set your standards lower. Expect pure garbage. Then when you get there you wont be disappointed to find that the attraction is in fact pure garbage and exactly as you imagined it would be; the opposite of what you envisioned. See?

Sadly I've begun to do that now. Not always garbage but way lower. Still it's the idea of what the attraction is that bugs me. I worry that I will assume it will have no ties at all to the future world aspect and I'll ride it and find my thoughts are right. Then what?

Not being totally serious here. I'm annoyed with the direction but not much I'll do about it really. I won't let it get me really.

Thematic elements aside, folks on these boards tend to use rose colored lenses and nostalgia in lieu of accepting that some of the newer things they've produced are outstanding in immersion and detail compared to some of the crap they've put out in the past. 7dmt is beautifully done, but short. carsland is unbelievably accurate in dca, mermaid in NFL, albeit a clone, is awesomely detailed, Pandora is pretty spectacular even tho I don't care for movie.

nobody's standing up for past crap just because it was the past tho...
and everything you just mentioned has an asterisk.

EVERYTHING that any theme park produces is going to have an asterisk. My point is that the keyboard warriors in here area hypercritical of things that the "normies" in the outside world could care less about.

exactly my point - going the extra mile that a normie might think is unnecessary is precisely what was once refferred to as the disney difference -
designing for normies (ie. good enough) is six flags talk, and considering many of us have actually witnessed that higher level it makes perfect sense to call it out when it seems to have lowered.

I agree. But calling fea, 7dmt, and others six flags caliber is wrong. Now, the cheap gotc overlay of tot, that's ripe for the lambasting.

Now, if they build a screen ride that spits water in my face like Spider-Man, then I'll be in line to crap on that. Lol

I totally agree. I did think that flight of passage tries its best to emulate rides of old epcot style with the 15 minutes of story building before jumping on the banshee. Actual ride time is lacking tho.

and it's funny you mention that, as there are aspects of fop that remind me of how it should be...
those moments where you think, 'they didn't have to go that far, they could have stopped at good enough, but they didn't - they went the extra mile for the wow of it'

how often do you honestly feel that nowadays? - it used to drip all over the place

I know. I miss my 80s summers to wdw/ epcot. Those were magic days

Dude, you are missing the point and extrapolating what you want to here!
I've been a disney fan for 30 plus years and have witnessed the Disney quality that did exist and still does in my humble opinion; however a bit different and perhaps not to your specific liking.. Even the newbies are here at WDWMAGIC because of the Disney quality over the "Six Flags" of the world and its almost disrespectful for you to talk to people like their idiots just because they have an opposing view point.

When is this site going to have a thumbs down button? Sometimes I wish I could just press one vs. posting. HaHa!

can't tell, is that even a rebuttal?
always willing to re-evaluate my own perspective

you may happen to feel that standards have not fallen, but they have - and i'm not the only one to have noticed
... but that still has nothing to do with you, personally - so, by all means, continue enjoying your magical vacations! seriously.

most people are ignorant of themed entertainment particulars, and never once did i infer that those folks were lesser individuals...
just like i could be exposed to any one of a million things i know little about and can still enjoy myself even in my state of ignorance - same applies here

It could be rose colored. It could also be a difference in what they like. But yeah, 7DMT was my 'really?' kind of ride. It's cute, but the amount of time it took to build and the waits surrounding it are crazy. Same with Frozen for me. Really cute, not worth a long wait. Pandora is *very* well done though and I couldn't stand the movies. I didn't fawn all over it, but I appreciated everything it offered visually.

I'm not a fan of GOTG in general. I mean it's fine, but the draw isn't there for me. If the ride is good I'll deal with it, but the ride itself doesn't have to be associated with the theming. Like 7DMT could have been anything else and had it work really. So that will be an emotional hang up on my end. We'll see where it is when it happens.

Now Tron I look forward to and hope my back can tolerate the ride.

They stand up for MK's PotC.

Good point. I was a WDW only guy until I was 26 years old. First visit to DL BLEW me away with that. I also enjoy DL space mountain much more. Iasw pales in comparison as well. Actually, the level of detail in DL fantasy land blows MK out of the water (preNFL).

IDK. I still like the WDW parks (and I fully admit to their faults and flaws, there are many) and I visited Disneyland for the first time ten years ago and I came away wowed, but I think it's a bit overly revered just because it's Walt's park. It's charming, though, very much so. I LOVE that park. I'd move in if I could. But for me it's not exactly like caviar on fine china (Disneyland) to bugs in the dirt served on a paper plate (WDW).

I think one of the main problems with WDW (and believe me, there are more than this, like lack of significant expansion until now and even now they're not doing all they should), is that we need some unique things. I know they don't care about that, and while I selfishly want certain attractions to be cloned here, what makes WDW stand out? For me it would be Animal Kingdom but then many aren't impressed by it like I am (yes it needs a few more attractions). Epcot's World Showcase is a draw. Future World is a hot mess and seems like it will continue to be.

Disneyland has the draw of it being Walt's park. And I'm not trying to discount that or dismiss it. It's major.

WDW used to be a destination that was talked about. People KNEW Epcot. It was ingrained in pop culture.

I'm not really making my point so I'll stop rambling on but I think the parks need to be unique and stand out. Clones don't really help that.

For better or for worse.

It always seemed like while many liked Epcot, it always had the public perception of "that park that was a school lesson with all the slow rides". I mean, many shows did make fun of it.

Still love Epcot. Always have, always will.

I was supposed to get to DL for the first time (at least since the early 70's when I was young) this year but the transmission in my car had other ideas. In the meantime we still enjoy our trips to WDW even though in my mind the parks pale in comparison to their previous glory. My two girls (8 and 10) and I consider Epcot our favorite park (they are not Frozen fans so it is not because of that ride). My whole family considers AK our least favorite so it's interesting to read other perspectives.

I guess I see both sides of these arguments. Some good criticism is warranted, but I find criticisms like "the third bolt on the second pole after the fifth turn is the wrong color" comical. I'm a perfectionist, yet have never done anything perfect so I guess I don't expect others to. On the other hand I definitely get we need to push for the best. I guess I am much more concerned with content choices than I am with build quality.
