Maybe Universal just doesn't want them? I don't think they'd build a GOTG ride if there'd be any trouble in a year from now.
Why? It's an additional hit franchise for relatively little. The licensing fee is already set.

I could see doing something like a M&G or monorail wrap without being sure you have the rights, but I have a hard time believing they would spend a lot of time and money developing an attraction without first being sure they have the rights.
Disney is a company that has many projects that were not realized even after sizable investment. Disney either consulted Universal or didn't. Consulting means revealing your own doubt and it's right back to why Universal would agree. Not consulting means Universal could still act. The reports of a Guardians of the Galaxy attraction at Walt Disney World have often been associated with a hastiness not found with other projects.

If they wanted them I doubt we'd be getting a Guardians ride in Epcot, that's why. But I agree, why wouldn't they? It just doesn't seem like they do, or can't use them (though I don't know on the "can't")

At the present, Universal does not seem have much of a claim. I think Avengers: Infinity War could provide Universal the basis for making a claim.

I think anything Marvel at WDW is total BS bc of the contract. Unless UNI lets Disney build it. Which, I highly doubt bc they could sue once Disney's done and waste billions of dollars. They'd probably build a ride that they could easily retheme to some other IP in case the Marvel IP doesn't work out.

Universal can't sue...

"The Tower wants revenge." :D
Ah, I see the host body has begun rejecting its new overlay.

The clause that mentions the character schedule also includes future characters. That schedule defined who Universal would be able to use in developing the land, it did not lock down the families that were used. A big summer blockbuster establishes a large public connection. I know there is precedent that would agree that Marvel decides what is and isn't, but it also seems crazy that Disney could do something as simple as move a character on a spreadsheet and end Universal's rights. And regardless of whether or not the argument would fly, why not at least give it a try?

Dr. Strange appeared in the 2012 video game 'Marvel Avengers: Battle for Earth' and then years later appeared in Disney World. Thor appears in a post-credit scene of the Dr. Strange movie which had its premiere in the United States before Dr. Strange stopped making appearances in costume at Disney World.

I am aware that there have been plenty of crossovers and appearances. That is not the same scale as what is sure to be another huge summer blockbuster. That creates a wide public perception, one that could create confusion regarding Universal's rights. What does Universal really have to lose by at least making the argument?

No because the Guardians are separate entity. Universal's contract isn't for all of Marvel. It doesn't matter who appears in Infinity War.
I did not make any claim that the contract was for all characters.

I've made this argument before. Universal's rights are not forward looking. A Star Wars/Avengers comic cross over does not bestow Universal the rights to Rey in their Marvel land. That sounds ridiculous, but how about the Incredibles playing in the Marvel sandbox?

Infinity War clarifies nothing, what Disney does in the Marvel Cinematic Universe today (which they play within their movie rights) has nothing to do with a contract based on comic book licensing from the 90's for a theme park. Either they can use the Guardians now or they can't.

Another one that I think people just wrongfully assume Universal has the retroactive full rights to that they don't... Fantastic Beasts.

Funny thing is they could've upgraded Tower of Terror to the immensely popular Orlando version with the parking lot space around it....

They'd have to demo the whole thing and start from scratch. The two towers have completely different layouts. Not something you could "upgrade"

Definitely worth the money though :)Plus, this new one could've included 5 random drop sequences as well as the 5th dimension scene :) The Orlando version would've upgraded to 5 drops as well
