group rate info! *URGENT*

my sociology class is looking into taking a trip to WDW...they'd be leaving Dec. 18, and supposedly coming home Dec. 23. the teacher has pretty much left it up to us to get the trip together, and most of the class has never been to WDW. so they really have no idea how hard it's gonna be for them to get reservations this late in the game. but i'm trying to help them out anyway.
i've never had any use for knowing about group rates until now. so, i gotta know by tomorrow if disney does have group rates for resorts (particuarly the all-stars) and, if so, what are they?
i know this isn't the thread for off property resorts, but the ones across the street from downtown disney aren't exactly off property. what do you all think? would it be cheaper to stay in one of those hotels, or one of the all stars? it'll be a group of about 12 students, and 2 or 3 adults/teachers. any and all help is greatly appreciated!!
i should also mention that they're doing one of the YES programs disney has to offer (Youth Education something...) so i don't know if that would be able to get them any discounts or not. probably not, but i thought i would mention it to be sure.

Id call and check with Disneyworld as soon as possible. 1-407 WDISNEY is the number. I know with the Disney Club they were offering room discounts for groups with 10 or more rooms. I dont know anything about any of the other options you mentioned though. Good luck!! Belle

thanks belle! :)
i found some room rates, but nothing on group rates yet. since i'm not planning on going, i'll leave the calling up to someone else in the class who is.

Yes, definitely ask for the group rate - you'll have to talk to the Group Sales department, but you can get there from the regular (407)W-DISNEY number. Sometimes an Annual Pass discount will get you a bit more savings. Doesn't hurt to ask (if you've got an AP, that is).

Sincerely,

Len

great! i'll definately tell them that!
my family and i will have annual passes, but since it's a one time thing for my class, i doubt they'll be willing to shell out over $300 per ticket :) after all, everyone's having to pay for themselves, seeing as there's really no time for a fund raiser of some sorts. but thanks so much for letting me know about all that! :) you have no idea how big of a help you all are!!

Who is Mandy?

lol! i was wondering if anybody had noticed that. Mandy was my dog (alaskan malamute...beautiful dog with dark brown eyes). i had had her since about the time that i was born, so she was around 17 years old or so (in human years). for a few years we've been expecting her to go, but she just kept hanging on. on the morning of the 12th, mom went out to give her her arthritis pill as she had been the past few months, and she seemed to be fine. so we go to opry mills mall in nashville, literally all day. we come home pretty late that night (about 9, i think) and mom went out to feed her and give her another pill when she finds her laying by her water bucket not moving, breathing heavily, and her tounge hanging out. she passed on within two hours. i've had more cats than i can count, but she's the only dog i've ever had. it's been SO hard trying to get used to life without her because she's ALWAYS been there. it's so lonely outside without her now. i can't complain much because she did have a good, and very long life, and i'm just glad we didn't have to put her to sleep, cause i don't think i could've handled that. but it's still hard.

thanks, pam!
and thanks so much to the rest of you for all your help! but, i really think the whole thing is being dropped. for a few reasons, really. 1. the whole class, pretty much, wanted to go but there was literally one girl trying to do all the work. the whole class pretty much relied on her to get the info for them and she doesn't think it's right, and i certainly don't either. i was trying to help her out as much as i could, but since i wasn't going in the first place, i felt like it wasn't really my responsibility. i felt like the members of the class that wanted to go should have pulled their own weight and help her look up info any way they could. and 2. the teacher started talking about it way too late in the game. if he had gotten the class started back in Aug., they might could've pulled it off without much trouble. but starting in Oct. to plan a trip in Dec....there's just really no way. unless, of course, they got lucky.
i just feel bad for some of the class cuz there were several who had never been and really wanted to go. but, all i know is that if they really wanted to, they should've helped get plans made up. that's just my opinion.
but, again, thank you all so much! :)

I'm really sorry this is off topic, but I just have to share this with your story about your dog. Please don't be too upset with me.

I had a 17 year old cocker spaniel named Lady (of course) who just died in July. I got her when I was 7 years old. I still miss her so I know what you're going through. She had been deaf for a while, but went blind in her last few months. Her last few days were really bad, but my dad was out of town so we were hoping she'd make it so he could say goodbye. She died literally just hours after he got back and just hours before our appointment to have her put down. We think she was hanging on just to say goodbye to him but let go before we took her to the vet because she knew we didn't want to have to put her down -- she always did everything she could to make us happy. She was always such a good dog, we couldn't have asked for one any better. I think I'll probably always miss her, it's gotten easier but even now I'm all teary-eyed again thinking about her. We went and had dinner at Tony's Town Square Restaurant in WDW in August in her memory. It was kind of soothing to sit there among all the Lady and the Tramp stuff remembering her. Plus, she always did love a bit of spaghetti so we think she would've thought it was appropriate. ;)

Thank you very much for putting up with this bit of off-topicness.

If there comes a time when your class is thinking of going again, please don't hesitate to contact me. I will give you all of the info that you will need.

thanks, SorcererYensid! and i, for one, don't mind the thread drift at all.
it helps knowning that other people know what i'm going through. even though it's only been 2 weeks since her death, it has gotten easier. just today my papaw came and picked up her dog houses (we had just bought her a bigger one not too long ago cuz she just couldn't turn around in her old one) so he could let his dogs use them. it was kinda hard seeing those go off...almost like we were giving away a piece of her. but practically speaking, there was nothing else we could do with them...we had no use for them anymore. a lot of times when i'm outside, i want to think she's just under the deck where i can't see her...but then i'm reminded that she's not there at all. outside just seems so dead and quiet without her. which it was quiet anyway because she never barked much...not even when she was younger. but it was just knowning that she was there just seemed to liven everything up.
mandy was always a good dog as well. she had her mischievious moments in her younger days, but overall, she was wonderful. always so gentle and so sweet. over time she lost her hearing (not completely, but you could tell it wasn't what it used to be) and her eyes became kind of milky...not to mention her obvious stiffness and arthritis. other than that she was perfectly healthy (that we know of) and every now and then get an energy spirt and take of galloping across the yard. but i guess it was just her time. i'll always miss her, i suppose. and i don't know if being outside will ever be the same again...probably not...but i'm not really sure i want it to be. i think maybe if i didn't feel a little lonely out there that that's when i would stop caring about her. i dunno...i'm just thinking out loud really.
thank you for sharing your dog's story! it helps so much! :)
