I love that at least 3 of the 6 commenters on that story are current or former members of these boards, all of whom I recognize from Facebook. God, what an incestuous little Disney cult we have.

Great story and i agree only at Disney would I pay what they charge for things(ie breakfast and souvieners !) But it is our families happy place. Cant beat Disney for the magical family experiance. But you are very right you either love disney or hate it.

Well, I learned along time ago never to buy anything at WDW except for the basics. Why? Because everything is way over priced and the identical item can be found elsewhere at a reasonable price. Let me illustrate with a short story.

Back when AK first opened, they had several gift shops that had some very fancy and unusual bird feeders. I had never seen such feeders before and I was very impressed with their quality. However, the prices were astronomical. I passed on those items but I wrote down a description of each item and their manufacturer. A quick search on the Internet was all it took to find the exact same items for less than half the price. I think that carries over to why you no longer see unique items in the gift shops. People know they can use the Internet to track down the items they want.

Well, if it isn't Disney Parks Authentic then yes, you can go home and get it elsewhere. Otherwise, you'll buy that Disney-made item from Disney 9in parks or online) or through a reseller at a higher price.

I know what she means about losing control of your tearducts! I can't ever keep emotions under control at Disney. I also relate to the no internet and spotty cell coverage; I am perfectly calm without connection to the "outside" world.

DISNEY has been my Happy Place since 1973!!
Our family had very little when I was growing up. My dad spent a small fortune to fly us to Disney World...we stayed at the Poly...met up with an Uncle & his wife (he was the bestman in my parents wedding & worked for Eastern Airlines...me thinks he had some connections to the Mouse ;)...we went to Bahamas for a few days before returning home. BEST trip of our lives!
I have returned MANY times with my family & friends and have soooo many wonderful memories :sohappy:

Yeah, Disney is the only place i'd spend that kind of money for things. I've been saving up since september just for souvenir money for our trip at the end of this May. But hey, i love it, and i don't care about the money when i'm there.
