>>The popular Earl of Sandwich restaurant at Downtown Disney is reopening Monday, Oct. 1 in its former location on the west end of the outdoor mall in Anaheim’s Disneyland Resort.

The news was posted as an opening day event on Facebook. Monday’s hours are listed as 7 a.m. to 11:59 p.m.

“We’re excited to announce the Grand Re-opening of Earl of Sandwich in Downtown Disney!” the post reads. “We’re back with the World’s Greatest Hot Sandwich and more. See you on October 1st!”

Even though the announcement had been up for less than a day, the store’s Facebook page already had dozens of comments.

The Anaheim Earl of Sandwich, which opened in Downtown Disney is 2012, is owned by the Planet Hollywood chain, as part of the 32-restaurant Earl of Sandwich brand. It closed, along with the Rainforest Cafe, ESPN Zone and AMC Theatres closed in June because construction was supposed to begin in July on a new upscale hotel on their footprint. However, the hotel plans were thrown into limbo after a dispute between Disney and the city of Anaheim over expected tax subsidies for the hotel.

Some people had hoped that other businesses such as the Rainforest Cafe could reopen, but with all the furniture and fixtures removed or sold, it would be much more difficult to restore. The ESPN Zone restaurant brand is basically dead with the closure of the last remaining store in Anaheim so it is most unlikely to reopen in its previous form, and the furnishings were donated to charity.<<

Any speculation about the other dead spots? Or nothing to expect until after the November elections?

I specifically showed the info regarding the Rainforest Café and ESPN Zone not returning. AMC Theaters have also moved on, as they signed a lease with Anaheim Garden Walk.

In the Permits thread, Disney has applied to install three special electrical outlet stations for Food Trucks.

So for the current period, that is it.

As for 2019, yes, the election and current fiscal stability will play into the future of the area.

Now that it's back, should we try predicting how long it'll last? I would guess it'll be more than just the holidays since I don't imagine Earl would agreeing to ramp everything back up for a just a couple months. I could see Disney trying to relocate them somewhere before letting them join the others at Garden Walk.

I've been kind of in the dark in regards to how DTD looks, prior to the cancellation of the new hotel. Is half of the place a ghost town now? I remember ESPN Zone and Rainforest being some of the bigger players in the area.

Word on the street had Earl of Sandwiches getting a prime spot at the 4th Hotel, so they are willing to work with Disney. So when the decision is made to move forward, EoS can close down quickly, and just put the non-perishable equipment and supplies back in storage. (And why they could reopen quickly this time).

Good question, the area west of Disneyland Drive is pretty much a dead zone.

Disney still has to deal with the former gas station issue, and cleaning up the soil. They don't know if part or all of the AMC building (the facility that let alone housed the theaters, but Starbucks and Earl of Sandwich.) Disney also wants a better path from Simba, which is slated for more parking spaces (which are much needed, even without the 4th Hotel being built).

As for the former ESPN Zone, Disney was trying to get someone to lease it out for years, with no takers. And with no promise of long term operation, doubtful that anything will happen there until a final decision is made in regards to future plans for the overall area. Same with Rainforest Café.

Bring on the Food Trucks and special events. Maybe shows on the stage in the area.

I have no idea why anyone would want the Rainforest Cafe to reopen. There is no wifi service in there and the food is disgusting. I was force to eat there a month before they closed and I felt like gagging with each bite.

I'm not so sure how "Disney" food trucks are.. Although only temporary, based on the direction of the parks, I feel like I shouldn't have high hopes for the area. Admittedly, this goes way beyond my knowledge of Disney and city politics. Most I can do is shrug my shoulders and wait for the next big development. Thanks for sharing, as always, @Darkbeer1. Always a pleasure to read your posts.

I enjoyed the two meals I ate at DLR's Rainforest Cafe. The staff was great, and the Elephant Room was awesome. The food was okay. For me, the inability to use a phone is a plus at restaurants. All in all, it wasn't the greatest dining experience I ever had, but it was fun.

For me it's nostalgic, I don't know how many times I've been there. So glad I got some merch there last trip as I wasn't able to for any of the other closed things at disney.

The WiFi is needed when they have to look up my Landry’s Card.

The grand opening of the popular Earl of Sandwich restaurant at Downtown Disney in Anaheim has been postponed, with no new date given.

A spokeswoman for the 32-restaurant chain announced the delay Sunday, after originally saying last week that the grand reopening had been planned for Monday, Oct. 1. No reason was given for the delay.

“We will open very soon but I can’t say yet if it will be Tuesday,” company spokeswoman Amy Sadowsky said in an email Sunday.

The restaurant closed in June, along with the Rainforest Cafe and ESPN Zone, AMC theaters and other businesses to make way for a planned construction of a new Disney hotel. That project has been placed on hold.<<

I frequent cocktail parties and social events that have a lot of very seasoned guys in the local commercial real estate business.

It's not uncommon in California to have private businesses, large and small, corporate and mom-and-pop, given official opening dates by one local bureaucrat, only to be told 72 hours later by another local bureaucrat that the info they got on Tuesday was wrong and they need to resubmit forms 112.Ac and 382.b and then pay another check of $1,482 for processing and triplicate digitization fees to clear the bank for 48 hours before a new inspector from the Fullerton field office will reach out to reschedule a follow up inspection on the placement of the Prop 65 signage before a Form #84b can be released for completion by you, your legal counsel, and every subcontractor your contractor sent bids to.

This is what it's like to try to run a private business in California in the 2010's. You are automatically assumed to be a public nuisance to the healthy living of anyone who may enter your business, and it is up to you to prove that you aren't.

It's not unusual that a private business would be told they can open, and then told a few days later they can't. You may send your thank you note for being allowed to apply to run an honest business that you certainly didn't build but are unseemly and automatically suspicious for trying to make a profit from to:
