Graduate B4 or after CP?

Yes I will be going for the non-alumni AI and I already know what position I am going to apply for. I have two local Disney rep reccomendations and I am quite confident that I will get the position. And if not, so be it, I can work my way in the traditional way.

And to the guy saying not to be overly-optimistic... fear not! I am a pessimist at heart, so if anything I am planning for the worst. ...and I'm not gung-ho Disney-or-die. If it doesn't work, I will move onto something I do like. I'm sure there's more jobs in Orlando than just WDW. Likewise, I am not one to just bail out immediately. I stick with my jobs - I've been in Gift Wrap, yes GIFT WRAP, at a department store for 2.5 years now ... and you think as a 21 y/o guy I'm eccstatic with that? :snore:

Well I'm glad you have everything hopefully going for you. And I really hope it all works out. Especially with the wedding and all, very exciting! But don't plan for the worst. Just don't go expecting everything to be perfect. I did and was disappointed. Oh well, we all learn from our mistakes. BTW, I'm female!!!

my interview is in 41 min. i asked the rep. "would it be a bad move to wait until after i graduate(with a bachelors) to do the CP?" he said that it would because of my situation(family wants me to wait til i grad. w/bach.) that i would have to make that decision for myself, but he personally would do it before junior/senior year, before you start to get into the "meat and potatos" of you education.

Listen to them... They're absolutely right...
this does sound like the wise thing, but,.... the recruiter brought an interesting point to mind. The CP is not availible to graduates, its only there for college students. My only other option after graduation would be to try to get a non-alumni AI. That doesnt sound even half as good as a Alumni AI, not to mention there are only like 8 or so non alumni internship choices.

The CP is available the semester after you graduate. You have to apply while you are still at student! That's what I did. A lot of my friends on the CP were graduates as well.

Also, I realize they are your parents, but they don't always know what is best for YOU. You are finally an adult, and you can make decisions on your own. Personally, my parents told me if I went on the CP before I graduated, they wouldn't fund the rest of my college education. That was the huge deciding factor about when to go.

I just think that for someone who is seriously looking at making a career out of Disney, doing the CP while you're in college is the best move. It will get you closer to a "real" job with the company than any semester of college will. Yes, it's crap work, but everybody has to pay their dues at some point. You'll just be getting started a little early. Also, and this hasn't really been mentioned, if you get down there and decide you hate it, like Beth did, you have the chance to go back to school and take a completely different direction. If you wait until after school to get down there and figure out you're miserable, then you have to make the whole "where do I go from here?" decision. If you go to a CP now and get miserable, you always know you just have to tough it out for a few months and then get back to your real life. Either way, if you are DETERMINED to give Disney a shot, then the sooner you get that experience, the better for your longterm decision.

As for the family concerns...feel free to copy and paste any of this if you think it will help, but you're really at the age where these kinds of decisions are up to you. (I know, easy for me to say). This isn't coming from someone who just thinks the CP is a great way to party, it's from a former CP who now has a bachelor's and a fulltime job in a completely different field who still thinks he made the right decision runing off to Disney for a semester. I got the itch out of my system, found out it wasn't for me, was able to fall back in with school life, and prepare myself for the rest of my life, with a lot of valuable experience, great memories, and a very clear idea of the kind of job I DON'T want to do for a living.

Good luck with your decision!

Extremely well said. I don't think there is one thing that I disagree with!

There are well more than 6 "non-alumni" advanced internships now. They recently removed the alumni requirement from many of the positions, so there's a broad array to choose from. The catch is, though, - or so my Disney rep tells me - you need a reccomendation from a former CP alum.

Can you please elaborate? I've never heard that until you just said it.

I just found out the other day from Recruter. One of the Alunmi from a fellow school is mine is trying to get around the rule since he wants to go back for a AI after he graduates.

I am not sure witch ones do it and done, I just know right now the one I am going to do will still let me in after I gradudate.
