No...you are obviously not. You got hit by friendly fire there...
Apologies to XDan..Yes you did get hit by friendly fire. Sorry. I guess you had to read all the garbage that preceded my back and forth with Penguin to know what I was trying to say to him. Without that yes it would seem very hypocritical.

AKL isn't a mistake...

Not planning IS.

I'm a tried and true low season, no crowds, walk on or walk past wdw vet of 30+ years...

...I hate planning. But resistance is futile and ruins trips.

Book all dining and cancel 24.5 hours ahead if needs be. Book all fastpasses and make sure at least 1 is an anchor Ride each day.

They've added nothing for a decade and the place is packed...the game has changed and it must be done.

It pains me...but it's true. Hell...give me her sign on and I'll plan it. Now...as the spring break fast passes just are up. Don't wait.

Absolutely. Even with the lack of change or the slow reaction of Disney to fix/update or add new attractions, the parks stay even more packed and you HAVE to plan or you will have a trip you dont enjoy or find yourself having to scramble. Even though we go 7-8 times a year, I still plan specific things just so I dont have to worry about it. When I take new people on a first trip or first in a long time, Im very diligent about planning. There is no way around it now.

I think I owe @ford91exploder and this board a bit of an apology. I did refer to a certain someone as a liar, which was uncalled for and does amount to a personal attack. In retrospect, a better approach on my part would have been to point out how he has in the past offered contradictory statements and said things that are or later prove to be factually incorrect (which I've seen him do, and he should be called out when he does). That way I would more have been focusing on specific things said in these forms rather than attaching a label to a person.

I'll now bow out of this part of the discussion at least.

Mea Culpa.

"At the beginning of this month" meaning the New Year holiday? Yeah, it's crowded then.

I went in the middle of the summer when Flight was brand new and easily got Fastpasses for a party of seven on two different days.

Jan 4th - Thursday
Jan 5th - Friday

Our AK day was Friday - slammed

I'll be the first to say FoP is amaaaaazing. But wait seven hours? Not in a million years. I wouldn't even wait two. That's unbelievable that you couldn't get any FP, especially if you were so diligent about it. How aggravating.

That type of situation is a complete operational/planning failure - propertywide.

...and I see people lauding them as Heroes for pulling off the first quality new ride in...well...forever.

It's the "bread and circuses" era of wdw...apparenrly.

So what's your solution?

There are enough onsite guests to bookll available FPs for FoP hundreds of times over. Even if they did away with the FPs for it, there would still be many many people who would have to wait 4 hrs to ride it if they wanted to do so. How do you suggest they change things to solve this?

If they can solve this befor SW:GE opens so much the better. I agree, it stinks for those who can't get an FP for the newest ride in the parks, but I don't honestly see how they could make it better.

Well, now that they have the linking technology in place, they can see who's been on FoP with a FP+ and who hasn't, so why not limit future FP+s to those who haven't yet used one? That way, everybody gets a shot at riding it using a FP+ at least once and those who have already used theirs can wait in a 4-hour stand-by line.

With FP included in the cost of the tickets, people would grab their torches and pitchforks if they were paying as much as anyone else, but were getting locked out of the FP system.

They should have built more in the past decade, but that ship has sailed. All they can do now is build like their butt is on fire, or keep raising prices.

So what's the difference between that and what's actually happening now? People are unable to get FP+s for FoP at the 60-day point... effectively, locked out of the system. And if you listen closely enough (or read the FP+ board) you'll hear some pretty piquant frustration with that situation.

I'm just sayin'... make it fair. If you've been on FoP with a FP+, back your greedy self up a bit and let someone else have a shot at it.

Hmmmm, interesting suggestion.

For how long? Like ever, within 6 months, or on this trip? Does length of trip matter?

Good questions... I'd say monitor the FP+ use and when the FP+ line drops to 0 to 5 minutes, then you can let people start making repeat FP+s. Remember, the only reason stand-by is 4 hours is that the FP+ line is always full.

Of course, that would pull the plug on their $50 Club-level FP+ initiative, now, wouldn't it... ;)

I like the idea of a tiered system that would do away with the current pre-reservation system and modeled after Disneyland's recently upgraded system. First step would be to reintroduce getting FP's day of only. Only exception to this would be if you are staying on a qualifying vacation package you can prebook 1-5 FP's ahead of time over the length of stay to guarantee access to your favorite Disney attraction/Show/Ride/Experience. From there you would have multiple tiers:

Tier 1: Free; Guest would be able to use the My Disney Experience app to view attraction wait times and current available FP times. Just like before with Legacy FP they would be available first come first served once in the park for a designated hour block of time. The next block of time will not become available until fully booked or the time for the booking window has passed. In order to reserve a FP you must visit a designated kiosk in each land/area of the park that services the attraction you wish to ride. All attractions in a given area will have a single location for these kiosks (See Shanghai). Normal Legacy FP rules apply: (You may only hold 1 FP for a designated attraction at a time. You can book your next FP once it has been used or if the FP is more than 2 hours you may book your next FP after 2 hours has elapsed.) However, you will be unable to book overlapping FPs Exp: Your SM FP is from 12:30-1:30. You may not book another FP if the time falls within that hour. You also may not book the same attraction more than once in a day.

Tier 2: Maxpass; For a nominal fee you will have the ability to book your FP's via the MDE app instead of having to visit the designated kiosk for the attraction you wish to ride. The above FP rules apply.

Tier 3: Maxpass+; For a larger fee you get the benefits of regular Maxpass PLUS a reduced waiting period between FP's and free photopass downloads of your pictures taken that day only. You may also book the same attraction if more FP's are available after using the first.

Tier 4: Ultimate; High Value product that gives you all the benefits of Maxpass+ with the addition of access to all preferred viewing areas for shows/parades/spectaculars without needing to reserve in advanced and the ability to hold up to two FP's at a time.

And if Disney really wanted to they could introduce a Ultimate Club level that allows select guests staying in a club level room to utilize the FP lines at all attractions that offer it.

Some initial questions / points.

Would the fees be paid per day or per vacation package?

What would a qualifying package be exactly, just a package as opposed to room only? If the latter, what would count for AP holders and DVC members?

If I'm booking for 2 or 3 weeks, why should I only get the same no. of these "experiences" as someone staying 1 night?

How would they encourage people to stay for longer with this plan? Suely they" d rather have people stay for a week than 3 days, but this plan doesn't have anything to support that.

All this of course ignores the significant cost of FP+ which they won't get rid of. Any plan has to work as an addition to FP+, like @larryz 's, rather than getting rid of it. They cannot abandon their massive outgoings on developing FP+, however much you may like them to.
