Goofy's Brainstormers PROJECT 3

Sweet! Ok...we have a New Project posted!

Our task it to take an attraction at the MK, and layer a new Halloween overlay on it for the holidays!

Brainstorming time!!!

What's so funny and apropo about this, is that I just designed something exactly like this yesterday after visiting the Halloween and party expo...

My idea was to take a merry go round(like Cinderella's carousel), and add temporary walls around it... then have the ride deluged in blacklight...while the horses were draped in new coverings...painted in glowing black light paint to look like bones...so you would be riding a boney dead steed in the dark, passing mirrors affixed to the outside wall, so you can see the effect each time you circle around.

But...thats WAY too simple...and I think we need something huge and awe inspiring to work with!

So...HM and Space Mountain are out...

but Splash, Pooh, Country bears, Big Thunder, Jungle Cruise, Stitch(ooh...maybe we can make a better show?) and Pirates are all fair game...first come first served!

Pirates seems so obvious...

But hey...what do you guys like???

I was thinking about a Halloween overlay for Tom Sawyer Island. We could definitely expand on this!

What do you think?
:D

Sorry kermitdefrog!

We had to move really fast this morning, in order to get first served :D
...and the Jungle Cruise will be our overlay.

(though I do still think that TSI would have been cool!)

Throw whatever ideas you all have out there...we can also scale back and tone down as we go.

I was thinking about how they pull off the other holiday overlays in DL...but I have never seen them...is it fairly easy to put a new "skin" on an AA?

Thinking about the practical side to changing it up. There are always amazing things that can be done with puppetry as well.

Ok, I'm just gonna lay this out for you guys, cause I respect you and I have liked working with you on this.

I'm starting to lose interest in this contest. No elimination this round? Tighter project deadlines? Judges not on the same page?

I take games and contests seriously, not seriously in the way like I get upset or angry, but seriously in that I work hard and put in my best. When I found out the other team was spared elimination in round one because one of our guys quit, I thought, ok, well that doesn't make any sense because they lost, and not just lost, but didn't even turn a project in on time. So they should lose someone anyway, even if we did. But then, this crap? I mean they lost this round too... Two out of three judges voted for us, and the poll went to us too, but they complain and then the judges take a stance, and then change their minds, and then... I don't know.

I appreciate the hard work the judges are putting into this, but I guess I'm just too much of a rule follower to be ok with this kind of shenanigans.

Am I coming off like a tool, or does this make sense?

OK, vent over. Let's put an awesome project together and make it 3 for 3, they can't dodge bullets forever.

I think voodoo is the way to go, I think we should decide if we want cartoony style voodoo, stylize (think haunted mansion), or grittier/more realistic voodoo?

Im really there with you Fractal.

Judging by the immense quiet in this thread, I am starting to think that others are too.

I too feel that if we won two...why was there no consequences?

Shouldn't we at least have gotten a reward for the round (if there was no elimination from them?)

But I guess there isn't much we can do about it.

It's really a game for fun anyway (though my own personal projects are now piling up...maybe I should tap you all for ideas?! :D)

Allrighty...so We need some Great Ideas to get rolling here!

I admit I am having leader doubts, and I'm wondering if we should have waited and gone in a different direction...but I want to look forward and not back!

So...for some incentive...to whoever comes up with the best idea in the next 24 hours..I will personally send them a package of cool but random WDW collectibles from my collection!

Right now I'm gonna go ride the JC on youtube, and try and get each scene firmly planted in mind.

Dr. Falcier's Jungle Cruise to the Other Side

Use the song as a theme during the ride. Get the voice actor to do a narration. Use NO boat captain, since it's on tracks anyway, have him take possession of the boat and take the passengers on a journey they'll NEVER forget. The ride can end with Dr. Falcier promising that anyone who wants to make a deal with him and help him come back, will always have a friend on the other side.

Since you jumped into our thread after the last results, I feel I have the right to respond to this. Especially since I was the main person "complaining".

Project 1 - Speaking for our team, I don't believe anyone would have said a word had the judges still eliminated someone.

Project 2 - Only 2 judges gave scores, which were split. The public poll was the deciding factor and it was extemely flawed from the beginning. I even commented on this before the poll went up, so my opinion is not based on the results.

Judging by your committment to this project I have a feeling you or one of your other teammates would have "complained" if the role were reversed.

I hope that both teams stay interested to the end. Ultimately though this is supposed to be fun and I think we have to realize that a little confusion/change in the beginning should make things smoother and more fun going foward.

Okay, commentary over. :)

Good luck to you guys!

Ok, fair enough... though I only responded because I thought it would be a dead thread since project discussions had ended and I am loathe to derail this thread.

I think that my problem isn't with you or your team. You should absolutely do whatever you feel you need to do. But, let's not make any mistake here, it was complaining to the judges, justified or not, and the judges caved. I understand that there are problems with the system, and I am glad to see them getting worked out early, it's just annoying, that's all.

Also, a correction, unless I missed something, we've seen from three judges, and two of them favored us.

If you'd like to continue this conversation, let's do so on PM's or reply in the main thread, this thread should now return to Brainstormer's talk for project 3.

^ I agree with you guys, but Mater is working out the kinks so hopefully the rest of the season will run smoothly. And it is just a bit of fun! And like you said Fractal, let's get back to the brainstorming.

Sooo...

Voodoo Jungle Cruise

I hope no one else is having regrets about choosing this attraction, it's kinda daunting. Time to do some research.

Sorry for showing up late.

My strong points are coming up with ideas for an attraction, and writing them out.

Drawing is my weakness.

How the NEW judging will work:
1) Projects turned in
2) BOTH Team Leaders send bottom two and a 24 hour poll is set up.
3) Judges send me their Favorite team with compliments. (they have 24 hours)
4) Poll closes and I take the team with the most votes and announce winner, send info to bottom two
5) in the mean time the teams will be choose their new team leader
6)the next morning I will let the eliminee know and post project

I was thinking not using specific films as a layover for the JC. To use Fractal's example of PaTF,that idea would best fit in FL or NoS.

My idea is for a simple Halloween Theme. It would be called "Shrunken Ned's Haunted Halloween". The ride would start by the CM at load(designed to be zombie-like) telling you that your captain has gone missing, and that the spirits will guide you. You then embark on a journey with ghosts, ghouls and mysterious scenes. The climax would be in the cave. After you emerge from tw cave, your captain catches up with you and boards the boat on a dock. He says he was possesed by a demon and went in tobthe jungle.

It would need a little more work, and a more detailed script, but has potential.

The halloween related jokes could be amazing....

So...the spirited Jungle Cruise...

I originally thought of Dr. fallcier and the voodoo connection as well as you Fractal...but then I was trying to figure out how new orleans voodoo fits in with the African jungle...

There are some pretty cool things we can do with Halloween, as Vacationer suggests...Shrunken Ned is a fantastic tie in...

And both of you two thought of the boat ride without a skipper..."guided by the spirits...AND the ghostly voice! " that is fabulous!

But I think we need even more of a backstory than "it's all happening... well, because it's Halloween..." I think we need a reason or some supernatural occurance...some reason for this strange thing to be happening... why are spirits and ghosts rising? Why have the animals gone rabid, and zombie like...and suddenly becoming strange and spooky?

Of course...we can always blame it on passengers!
....like in DL's Indy ride...you can't look into the eyes of Mara...or bad juju happens...but of course the eyes of Mara are frickin' huge and shiny, and there's nothing else YOU can look at...hence why things all go wonky!

maybe the natives are superstitious...and the legend says that things in the Jungle become haunted every October...but only when there is someone on board the boat...wearing WHITE!

Is the witch doctor scene near the end? Or am I misremembering it? I was htinking maybe the Skipper can be wearing one of those African masks, and you think he's an AA, but he jumps into the boat.

in my Haunted house experience, it definitl;y makes you jump when you think everything is AA...and then suddenly...there's something that's NOT!

Also why I think adding live actors in the scenes might be fun and creepy...

Jasonflz...I was thinking of how we can utilize UV lights as well! (did you see my post about the carousel?)

are you up to write some corny halloween jokes? Anyone else?

We might have to write the entire new script...or we might just be able to get away with an outline, and the jokes and puns!

Kermit...there will be plenty you can do... think of how to change a scene!

Tomorrow I am going to write out each scene (as it is now) and we will see what we can do to make each one something spooky!

Unfortunately...i have no more time tonight, as there's only one computer...and I have to share!

I just wanted to bring to mind what hack sai on the main thread; its good for us to check out:

Well, it looks like both teams have decided on their attractions, and I am excited. But first, I offer a bit of advice based on normal operating procedures and what-not.

For The World Famous Jungle Cruise (World Famous for being World Famous!), the skippers are absolutely integral to the experience. Not only do they make the attraction incredibly enjoyable, but they also act as the only visible security and safety measure to keep guests seated and in the boat. The boat also must be operated by a properly trained CM. Also, remember that the animals are animatronics that can only do their programmed motions at their programmed times. And if you are planning to add an AA into the attraction, you will have to make sure it is in a place where the elements of Florida can't get to it. AAs + Water = Very Bad

...Now, with all of that said, I think we're going to have a great round, and my completely unofficial and unsanctioned judging categories are story/script, themeing/design (including the queue), and the (soon to be infamous) placement category. Remember, this is just a game, so have fun collaborating on some amazing projects!

Ah well...

So we can't replace the Skipper completely...someone has to drive the boat. It just doesn't have to be a skipper necessarily.

It can be someone who pretends to hijack the boat(for nefarious reasons...or perhaps because of greed)

My thoughts are still running to the supernatural...

An item or artifact that is accidently opened on board (or before guests board) and starts this chain of events.

And thinking it was just Africa was my fault...it's several world rivers...Amazon,Congo Nile, Makong...
Ok...
here is the layout of the "scenes" of the ride in it's current non spooky form

Remember, we can replace scenes with cool new effects and characters, but we DON'T have to limit oursleves to just those spots!
we can also add effects where there are no scenes(in the foliage along the banks)

From the dock...
1. AMAZON
giant butterflies
inspiration falls

2. CONGO
longboats (pygmy camp?)
giant python
Gorilla camp

3. NILE
African elepnat
veldt (lions, wildebeasts, zebras, giraffes)
rhino and post of hapless explorers
crocodiles
Schweitzer falls
Crashed plane
hippos popping up
war dance AAs
natives with blowguns
The backside of water

4. MAKONG
crocodiles
tigers
temple(cave)
Indian elephants (squirting)
shrunken head seller

Ok...that's what we have to work with...

I think once we have a solid and awesome backstory in place, the rest of this will fall into place

So BACKSTORY...
we have the Shrunken Ned Halloween ride idea

we have the Dr. Faciller Voodoo Cruise idea

and we have ?

OK, how about Shrunken Ned's Pandora's Box kinda thing.

Whenever a full moon rising happens during the month of October, the voodoo powers of Shrunken Ned- that have been locked away deep in the heart of the jungle- are unleashed into the jungle; causing the spirits to rise, the animals to go rabid and general terror to grip the jungle. The natives all change too whenever the supernatural powers escape- they turn into possessed beings.

Guests who board the Jungle Cruise during this season are unaware of the terrifying journey that lays ahead. The skipper too doesn't know, so it would be good to see how he reacts. At the beginning the boat is hijacked by one of the possessed natives, a live actor who is hidden in the bushes and literally jumps onto the boat (that would be really scary, especially at night) and takes the guests on a voodoo jungle cruise.

Well there's an idea, it's got quite a few flaws though. Just so long as we steer away from anything character related.
