Many professional curtains weigh much more. A falling curtain can kill you. Stage managers are there for a reason.

I don't buy the argument that people know exactly what they're getting into with new jobs/careers. The amount of turnover in the workplace dictates that HR departments keep the revolving door turning at a constant pace to keep up with those leaving. In every job there is the company line that is given to you from the minute you read/hear about the job opening til the end of training. Then when you get to your work area and meet your co-workers, you slowly learn what you'll REALLY be doing day in and day out. Are HR departments totally evil for not telling the exact truth? No, because its safe to say very few jobs would be filled if you knew exactly what you'd be doing day in and day out ahead of time.

Its not always possible, but at all costs try and talk to people who are already doing a job you're interested in within the same company. Most people are dying to whine about "problems" and you can usually decipher what may be something you can deal with and that person's pickyness. On the converse, they can also let you in on perks about the job that the HR department is oblivious to or is not about to advertise to the general public.

As far as this particular suit, its a wait and see. MKT if you can remember and update the board on what happens with this case further on down the road i'd be interested to know. :)

Ford claims he has been hounded by problems ever since, experiencing "disabling injuries to his back and neck," "mental anguish" and "loss of enjoyment of life." He's seeking $300,000.

...to coincide with this, Ford has lately been seen chasing neighbor's vehicles, drinking out of the toilet, and most disturbing, sniffing complete stranger's crotches. Full story at 11!

Frivilous?? I don't think so...I DO believe that the guy should have filed an accident report immediately after.
TRUST ME...WHen it comes to CM injuries, Disney is less than sympathetic.
BUT! You have to do your part as a CM too...making sure you are covered. No one else is going to.

comes with the territory. i'm a computer tech and slowly getting carpal tunnel syndrome, maybe i should sue my company. my father gets lower back problems from driving a bus maybe he should sue the bus company?. at least you can tell your kids that your acs and pains made lots of families and kids very happy, not alot of jobs you can say that about.

yes it does... my big injuries came from Tapestry of Dreams however... due to Disney's negligence. I told them before the parade I felt unsafe due to high winds and a slippery surface, and they didn't listen. Well, this puppeteer went down hard. It's ok though... i'm not one to sue normally. They refill my prescriptions and pay for me to continue seeing a specialist. In my experience, The Walt Disney World company would rather deal with Workers Comp and pay a CM for an injury, rather than take steps to prevent it from happening in the first place.

thank you for looking at it that way.... I stlil don't. When the kids were happy, I was happy and not injured. When I was injured WITH a character, it did NOT make any kids happy having to see that characater and myself exit early, usually while seeing a kid. As for the ToD injuries... guests had to carry me off since none of the parade coordinators were able to be seen.

sorry.. bitter sentiments

I can confirm that Disney can be very negligent when it comes to some of the entertainment costumes. I had a BIG problem with one costume in particular, and it actually had me CRYING because of pain when I was offstage. Well, I tried to get them to disapprove me. Twice. They wouldn't do it because it "fits me properly." I ended up having to give away those shifts every time I got them.

Also, I know of one costume in particular that injures half the people who put it on, and those people end up in the same situation I was in.

However, as someone mentioned, it comes with the territory. If going out and making people happy wasn't worth it, we wouldn't be doing it. I loved my job, and despite having those days when I went home and laid flat on my back for awhile, I considered it all worth it. It was a very emotionally rewarding job. I think, however, that they do need to pay a bit more attention to costume problems, because it'll save them a load in workers comp.

Or putting you on light duty (I won't get into what a joke that is...when you have a back injury you shouldn't be sent somewhere that you stand for six hours straight with no break) for a week and then putting you right back in the position that hurt you in the first place.

that's the only reason I made sure my light duty was at MK. I would always end up either A- driving a van, B- sitting on my @$$ filling up squeeze breeze bottles, C- walking upstairs in the park as a "Secret Shopper." As far as returning... ugh yeah. Tapestry was the reason I got a CDL.. they needed Van Drivers at AK and I needed a break.

Two words: Great Wall. The first time I was ever on light duty in about eight years. I had to be put on it twice and the second time I had to demand Xrays and to see a specialist. The Dr. at first aid commented on how he couldn't find a problem with my back from my Xrays. When I went to see the specialist (a chiropractor...who I see regularly now) she pointed out that my fifth lumbar vertabrae was absolutely screwed up. Two weeks of seeing her plus physical therapy and I was better.

Hey! I did that a few times for extra hours.. lol. I did mostly Yay and Nay though... I had to to see a specialist too

Light duty is evil. My roommate was on light duty for a long time, and she had to spend an eight hour shift counting tabs off Coke cans (for one of those charity things). Jars and jars full of tabs. And not only that, but they were nasty and sticky tabs.

I had fun when I got sent to Costuming though. I was there with my roommate once, and we had great competitions to see who could match the most costume pieces in the mismatch bins. :D

I would do donuts and go off-roading in company vehicles...

or go ride on a skateboard in the tunnels.

I'm bad.
