I know they're so darned expensive and I have always wondered if they jack the price up once it starts to rain or not. :drevil:

You can always buy them in almost any store. They are behind the counter so they are on request when its not raining.

Same here, mostly the sea of yellow, but everyone once and a while a clear one. We brought our own blue ones from Meijers. We used them every day and I am sure glad we had them. It was the 1st trip we ever really needed them, but it rained almost every day for many hours (not just 1 or 2). At least we could find each other in the crowd.

5$ isn't too bad, I belive they were 4$ at Mejiers. (but it seems like the plasic was a bit better quality.)

barnum42, that sounds really cool. Wish I had one of those.

Well, I for one love the ponchos! They are SO handy! Takes little time to take one of you backpack, put it on, and head over to attractions without people in your way! I for one HATE to have my clothes wet all day. Last year, Christmas Eve, we were at MGM, it rained off almost all day. I had jeans on and my pants were drinched up to my knees. Although it was nicer than being in snow, it still was very uncomfy! After all my trips to WDW, you'd think I would have remembered my poncho that night!

I still have it and still use it. I was one of the few not in Yellow during September. Fortunately I rarely had to wear it. Most rain was short and light. But when it gets heavy I have photographic kit that needs protecting. I may be waterproof, but the cameras are not!

My family has a set of clear ponchos from my early childhood, they have served us well....and until recently they differentiated us from the rest of the pack...btw for those coming from the south, there is a HUGE Super Walmart on the Osceola PW and ponchos are much cheaper there than at the world.

Being an Eagle Scout, I rarely go anywhere for a long period of time without some decent raingear, and since I'm always the one who gets to wear the backpack for my family when we're at WDW, I usually go ahead and stuff in my big double-layer North Face gortex jacket in, just in case. To put it mildly, the thing is effective in rain, but also pretty hot if there's any sun out, so it can be a bit of a pain to carry around if it's too hot to wear. Still, if it ever rains even a drop I know I'm all ready for it. I did have some real fun with it once on a 90-degree day, though. At the Ice Station Cool pavillion at EPCOT there is a snow machine near the entrance, and since my family was preoccupied inside for a long time, guzzling smart watermellon or something, I put the jacket on and stood under the snow maker and waited... and waited.. and waited. You should have seen the look on the cast members/other guests faces when I strolled out of the building with three inches of real snow falling off of my head and shoulders.

I'm from Minnesota, myself, and as normal Florida weather is much warmer than up here, I usually visit during the winter, and it can still be quite cold down in Orlando. So it is kinda funny when we do these attractions that are designed to cool you off during the extreem Florida heat, and then freeze our rears off, like Splash Mountain or Ice Station Cool or sitting in the wet zones for Fantasmic (by accident, by the way  I just thought it would be more fun to watch up close!)

I'm glad we had our ponchos our first year we went for christmas! Record lows! New Year's Eve, my sister and I were at MK and it was like noon, we had winter coats, sweatshirts and shirts under that was were still FREEZING. Yucky. Not fun.

The one thing I think would be neat, if they sold ponchos for shoes! That's another thing that bothers me when it rains! My feet get sooooo soaked. And take way too long to dry

*EDIT*

Just thought I'd clarify something, I know they make the whole things for shoes! I meant, that Disney should sell them. ;) It's too late to type! lol

:D Oh my-- Never go to Disney without your poncho-- They do not cost that much. I think mine was $5.00, but that was a while ago. "But" I have really gotten my $$ worth.

Just recently on Oct 9th just as Wishs started so did the rain. Not a drissle mind you a real storm, and not many places to hide from it. Also, when we went in July it was rain, rain, and more rain every day!!!

Some other reasons we always bring ours: To cover the stroller so it does not get wet-- no fun sitting in a puddle all night. Ha ha Then when it has been cold and we did not bring a sweater/jacket it really will help to keep you warm.

You talked about wearing them on the water rides, Ah hummmm that was me. Last time on went on the River Rapids I was so wet I might as well have jumped in the water. I was so wet I had to wring out all of my clothes in the bathroom and I mean all of them :( Then I had to walk around for the next 5-6 hours with wet clothes ( owwwwwwwwww not fun ) and they were still wet when I got back to the hotel that night.

I guess if you are 5-20 yrs old this may not bother you but-- ???? So when I went this time ( Oct.) I did wear it and I was sure glad I did!! I was the lucky one?? Ohhhhhhhh Owwwwwwww Still got a little wet, but liveable this time!

Oh well, I will be the one still wearing my yellow poncho, at least until I have to get a new one. :lookaroun You will have to do what is best for you----- Just have fun

When we went in August we went to Fantasmic with one poncho...we are forgetful. It poured for like 5 minutes, but we were soaked from the waist down. The one poncho managed to keep our heads dry. I'm leaving next thursday and already have 3 packed. They tear so easily on me. I think they're worth it. What would Disney be without the standard poncho?! Plus at Fantasmic I was told "NO UMBRELLAS". Better yellow than sick!

We've got our yellow one's. Keep them in the Airstream and use them wherever we go. It's a great conversation piece, lol...

It's amazing the number of people who come up and start talking to you when I've been camping other places and it's raining and I'm out in the yellow poncho.

I seem to be the only person on this planet that dislikes ponchos. Oh well, call me crazy. Since I'm going to be a CM in January, I better get used to them.

CM's wear/have worn clear ponchos so they can be identified. Also so you can see the costume.

OK – so they don’t exactly scream “Catwalk”, but the poncho is a thing of practicality not beauty.

Unless – and here is a challenge to you good folks – can anyone provide a photo of themselves / friend / significant other in a poncho whilst still reeking class and style. :animwink:

I'll miss the old yellow one's, but understand the change. Luckily I have'nt had to wear mine in years. Does anybody else find themselves scanning crowds on tv trying to find a Mickey poncho during sporting events when they show the crowd sitting in a downpour ?
