Goodbye Sassagoula River Cruise rental boats?

Disney made an announced last week. This was the headline of the article;
Downtown Disney Marketplace boat dock closing soon for causeway construction.
Due to construction, Port Orleans river boat will dock somewhere else when it goes to DTD. I doubt they will announce that 1 week, then two weeks later they announce it is closed down all together.

I don't think my point was mentioned but the boat transportation docks are still there, right now they are just modified load/unload until construction is complete. I also remember in the concept art there were boats that looked like cars shown cruising around the waters of Disney Springs...is this not happening?

I saw that to, they are calling it amphicars. They look like the Sci Fi Diner cars made into boats.

Why not - if not a lot of screaming week 1 assume no one cares and cut it permanently

Stopping the resort boat transportation along the Sassagoula would be an awful decision on the part of Disney and one I really can't see them taking. The rentals I could understand, the prices to rent a Mouseboat at Downtown Disney were ridiculous, but the river cruise is hugely popular with guests at both Port Orleans resorts. They might be going a little bit cut-crazy right now with some of the entertainment offerings that have gone in the last few weeks but I just can't envisage Disney cutting transport along the Sassagoula.

It is just a different docking location. So instead of being let out near the Rainforest Cafe, People will be let out in the middle of Downtown Disney instead. There was really nothing for people to scream about.

Just to clarify -- The Sassagoula river transportation HAS NOT NOT AND WILL NOT BE DISCONTINUED EVEN DURING BUILDING -- the dock will now go from Marketplace to Pleasure Island -- it will not change at all up at the resorts --Disney has already sent out press releases on that.

As to boat rentals DOWN in DTD I wouldn't be surprised at all if they did away with that -- they make no money from them, their liability is horrendously high for insurance, and I can't imagine any rental company makes any kind of profit from running that. Disney Transport for YEARS has been trying to get rid of the rentals as they make navigation of the rivers dangerous for the regular transportation services.

But just to clarify, this type of "alarming Topic Heading" based on a rumor should be moderated a bit better on here....

Well that stinks! I hope the water taxis to and from DTD are not discontinued it's bad enough that when the weather gets to raining the boats shut down and you will find yourself waiting for a bus forever! I once waited over an hour for a bus to DTD and ended up calling a cab.
I think its time to build a bridge across the river for the people who are staying at the Treehouses so they can at least get a drink or a bite to eat over a POFQ since they are a bit off the beaten path far away from the main SSR buildings. Also maybe its time to think about another form of transportation to the new DS area for all the resorts in this area (OKW, PORS, POFQ, Treehouses, SSR), no I am not asking for a monorail but come on a train would even work.

Downtown Disney will continue to rent boats after the construction. There was a press release reporting that they will be soon renting Amphicars. Amphicars pretty much look like all the cars at the Sci fi Diner, but they are made into boats. From the concept art, it looked funny all these 1950's cars cruising on the river.

So to review, nothing discussed in the original post of this thread is accurate. Time to move back to the "Hub redo makes me cry real bad" thread.

Yeah, I am guessing someone saw the headline from the one press release about the Sassagoula River boat dock being closed, but then they never read the full article to see it was just a change in docks.

Staying at POR at the end of March and will be absolutely crushed if the water taxi Downtown isn't running, but from the looks of this thread, it's only the rentals that are being canned. No problem with that!!

Awesome awesome news. :D The space where the marina was can be so much better utilized. Also, the lake and waterways in the area are not the best place for rentals. This opens up great possibilities for entertainment options that would have been difficult otherwise. Also......

We are going to Riverside at the end of March as well. If they did close it, which is definitely not true at all, we would transfer and pay a little more to be in a better resort. I heard Riverside is great, but without the boat as a perk, I think several families would rather go somewhere else with more perks.

Only private rentals are leaving per the rumor.

I know, but it is only temporary for the rentals in Downtown Disney. They will be back in January 2015 as those Amphicars, as I mentioned in my previous post.

The Boat rentals in Riverside are still staying open I think. I just received a free hour rental from them last week, along with other stuff in the resort.
