Goodbye Sassagoula River Cruise rental boats?

According to a very trusted source there is only one week left to take a cruise down the Sassagoula River.

They are closing down boat rentals at the moderate resorts and Downtown Disney.

Allegedly, the company decided to not to build a boat marina at Disney Springs.

Recreation cast members were shocked to find this out.

The source said exactly what I wrote. He did not say that all boat service was discontinued or anything like that, but I felt that it was implied. Anyone else who knows anything more feel free to comment.

Hold on - according to this rumor, they are terminating boat rentals at the moderate resorts and Downtown Disney, or they are terminating boat transportation between those same resorts and Downtown Disney?

Edited to add: You were posting above the same time as me. Thanks.

The source said "boat rentals" specifically. Then continued to state that they are not building a boat marina at Disney Springs. I only posted here to see if anyone else heard anything.

It might not affect the transportation to Downtown Disney, but I felt that was implied.

Aren't there boat rentals at Downtown Disney that you can take up the Sassagoula River yourself?

That dock and Captain Jack's have been demolished to make way for disney springs. As of a few weeks ago, you wouldn't have known there used to be a dock and restaurant there before.

I think the aqua cars at the new boathouse restaurant will be the new version of boat reveals at DTD once that area is opened. And most likely popular too since they seem like a unique experience. Time will tell.

More like 'Year of a Thousand Unfounded Rumors'.
I am an apologist and even I have to admit that the number of cuts in the past few weeks is troubling. Push, the candy lady in Japan, the Italian ladies, the Jungle Jammin Parade. I get that this might just be a perfect storm of unavoidable coincidences, but it doesn't look good to see these things going away with nothing announced to replace them.

The only thing that has been cut is boat rentals from Downtown Disney/Disney Springs. The Sassagoula River Cruise has not been discontinued. The Downtown Disney Marketplace dock closed on 2/22/14 and will re-open this fall. In the meantime boats will use the Pleasure Island & West Side docks. Boat rentals will no longer be available at Downtown Disney or Disney Springs. However I haven't heard of them not being available at Disney Moderate Resorts.

Sounds like the perfect time for a price increase, huh?;)

I think these entertainment offerings have been cut, instead, to add budget for the large infrastructure projects at MK and AK. It may seem like a loss to us, but these cast were well paid entertainers and cutting them for an extended time can help gain a lot of money for projects like the AK overhaul or MK bypass and hub overhaul.
Just the way i see things...

I understand that, but I think it's really unfortunate if true. Disney should have a budget for maintaining what is there AND a budget for development of new projects. If they need to cut entertainment in Epcot to help pay for an expansion in AK, I think something is really wrong with how they budget.

I actually this this is just a really badly timed series of events that indicates a larger issue of not focusing on live entertainment in general and thus letting things slip.

Losing the dock wouldn't affect boat rentals at the moderate resorts, since (as far as I know) you have to return them back to the original dock anyway...you wouldn't be docking at DtD, just riding by it.

It is expensive, but when my fiancé and I rented one for our anniversary back in May, we wanted to do something unique and it fit the bill. We had the boat for 55 minutes and they only charged us for half that, which was nice (we had no problem paying the full rate!). :)

As I've gotten older and the offerings in the parks that appeal to me a bit thinner, it's recreation activities and small details that are my favorite things to do in WDW. It would be a shame to lose more of them. Hopefully this is just a misinterpretation, though.

I don't think my point was mentioned but the boat transportation docks are still there, right now they are just modified load/unload until construction is complete. I also remember in the concept art there were boats that looked like cars shown cruising around the waters of Disney Springs...is this not happening?
