good news/bad news for me

Our trip was to be in March and April when my wife and kids were on spring break, due to multiple snow days, spring break will be gone. The good news is, by delaying till June puts the trip on my birthday. The question is, has anyone used the alternate to the free ticket? and which one is the best?

We are going in June as well for my DH's bday. We will be at MK on his actual bday. If it is terribly busy, we'll opt for the FP. However, we are going to be there for a week so there should be time for us to ride everything we want. I'm personally leaning towards the gift card!!

Wow, can they really cancel spring break? If our school systems even tried that here there would be he-- to pay! People plan months in advance, ask for vacation time maybe a year in advance, all around that precious week of time to get the you know what out of the cold and snow. I would have to think hard about my policy of not removing the kids from school for a vacation if this ever happened when my kids were in school. I am glad for you if it works out for the better BUT I would have a huge problem with it if it were me and my family. As in I would go anyway.

It's been done here (in Connecticut) before. State law says there must be 180 days of school per year, but it also says school must end by a certain date in June each year since most of our schools are NOT air conditioned. So if there's a severe winter with a lot of snow days early in the season, the spring break must be shortened or eliminated to get the required number of school days in and comply with the law. THankfully, this has only happed a couple of times in my memory.

Here in Massachusetts, I don't know if there's a law that gives a date they have to be done by, but various school districts are trying to come up with different solutions. Some are thinking about extending the length of school days, others are considering classes on Saturdays. Others could very easily have to extend their classes into July to fit in all the missed days thanks to the ice storm last month.
