Good locations to watch IllumiNations without staking out the area for an hour?

International Gateway

For the last 4 or 5 visits, we always stake out a spot on the bridge near the International Gateway. You can usually get a spot near the railing around 30 minutes before showtime.

Also...you're close to France and the pastry shop!!!

My favorite is in front of Germany. Grab a pint of beer with a giant pretzel & wait for the show. What could be better? :D

for the past 4 years my family has gone to epcot for illuminations several times during each trip. one per year. our favorite spot to watch is in front of germany. that spot has seemed to be the best for us over all. there is a clear and unobstructed view of the show with no worry of smoke from the fireworks blowing in our direction. that seems to generally blow twards the opposite side of the lake. we were in england one year but the was alot of smoke. so we pretty much like to stick to germany now. plus we come from a family who is half german and half scott on both sides.so it pretty much has to be germany or england. we just like the view better from germany.

For those who mentioned Showcase Plaza or "between the two Gateway shops," that is actually the focal point the entire show is based from. The show is in the round, yes, but a focal point was still needed to make the show work. Showcase Plaza is that point. :)

When you purchase certain MYW packages (I think premium & platinum) you get VIP viewing. If this is what the OP is referring to, it's at the boat landing in Marocco. We've watched it twice from there and it's a great view. We also did the IllumiNations cruise and watched from under the bridge. It was a very cool perspective to see the show from.

I was considering the Illuminations Cruise for our trip in December. Do you think it was worth the extra money and did you have a problem with the smoke? Also, how long before the show do you have to be at the boat and were do you board? Any information you can give me about the cruise would be so helpful. Thanks!!

If you go in September or early October, you can get a spot anywhere you want in World Showcase in the front row. Just get there 5-10 minutes before the show. :D

If you don't want to pick out a spot before the hand, try the fountain in Future World. You're far enough back so the trees along the gateway don't block the show & your out of the crowd for the mad rush for the exits.
