Pre-Trip Gonna end up fat and single...

Hey guys, :p

I finally am getting around to writing a true pre-trip report. Usually, my Disney plans are set in stone oh, you know, 180 days out…. But planning this trip has been so different! I have changed my mind constantly about what day we’ll go to what park, what time we’ll eat at what restaurant, and even what restaurants to book an ADR for. Disney has not been cooperating either, as I have no idea when the Star Wars fireworks will be, or what time Animal Kingdom will stay open until, and if Rivers of Light will even be a nighttime show in the fall. I have been pulling out my hair, driving myself (as well as my boyfriend) completely and utterly crazy. He just doesn’t understand the struggle of planning THE ULTIMATE DISNEY TRIP. My boyfriend has literally given me NO input, so I’m on my own. Okay, maybe he did suggest T-Rex and returning to Teppan Edo and I shut him, but that’s beside the point. ;);)

Myself and my BF, Joe

Now don’t get me wrong, I think of one the best parts of any Disney trip is the planning process! I sit at my computer with butterflies in my stomach looking at menus, and park hours, and firework show times. I probably have ten tabs open at all times of solely Disney websites. I wake up every morning and refresh my app to check on my reservations, just to make sure this is all real and not one big dream. I get myself all giddy and try to share my Disney planning accomplishments with people in my everyday life and they just don’t feel the same way!

Me: “Babe, I scored us a Be Our Guest reservation at 12 noon on our first day! TAKE A LOOK AT DEM APPLES.”
BF: “Nicole, what?! Are you talking Disney to me?”

So here I am, to share with you good people who understand my love and obsession with all things Disney and Disney planning. Without further ado, here are my pre-trip plans!
I’m too excited to sleep!!

My boyfriend and I are going to Disney from Friday, November 4th until Sunday, November 13th. That’s 10 days, 9 nights in my most favorite city in the world, the one, the only, Orlando!

We have gone once before together, back in 2011, and we had an absolutely amazing time. I was not as knowledgeable back then, and we ended up just stumbling upon the Food and Wine Festival, and completely missing the Christmas Party. (Who knew these things existed? Who was I?)

I moved last year to the Philadelphia area, so we will be flying out of Philadelphia at 6:10 PM, arriving in Orlando at 8:57 PM.

Here’s hoping I can find my way around the Philadelphia airport, because as we all know, I am severely directionally challenged.
We plan to do 6 days at Disney, with the magic your way tickets with park hoppers and the water park add on, check out the Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party, and spend 2 days at Universal (the dark side). Last Christmas, I read the Harry Potter series, for the first time, and I just could not put the books down. My boyfriend dragged me to his work Christmas party, after just finding out Dumbledore freaking dies, and I had everyone at his dinner table consoling me. We had a movie marathon, and I just think it’s time I checked out these other parks in my beloved city of Orlando.

Since we fly in at night, and are trekking over to the dark side, this leaves us with an abundance of table service credits. Seems like such a great predicament to be in (right?!), but this has made planning my dining so tough! Where to eat, where to eat!? Now, a girl is not complaining, because after moving out of my parents’ house, I now know how hard it is to make dinner every night. (Mama, I miss your home cooking.) You must plan out what is needed at the grocery store, and you never realize the time and effort that goes into a meal that you devour in less than ten minutes flat. Is it strange that I am most looking forward to not cooking for ten days? I APPRECIATE YOU DINING PLAN.

I went back and forth between Coronado and Port Orleans Riverside. I was even pricing out All Star Sports and Art of Animation. After much debate, with myself, I finally settled on Riverside. The resort looks super gorgeous with a touch of romance, and I still can’t decide if I want to be in Alligator Bayou or The Mansions. It’s all just too beautiful that I think I may leave that decision up to the Disney Gods.

So there’s the basics, the flight, the hotel, the tickets. Now onto the details!

Ugh, and I thought nothing could be worse than Newark. I've gotten lost there quite a few times, and then once when I asked for instructions they led me to a closet. HAHA! Hopefully Philly isn't toooooo bad! Think happy thoughts for me!

I despise Newark Airport with every fiber of my being. I've flown thru Philly on a connection. Granted, I didn't experience it from curbside to check in, but I thought PHL wasn't so bad at all.

Why must our boyfriends be so difficult? My BF tells me all the time after this trip we aren't going until we have children. (UM WHAT?!)

Are you SURE he's the right guy for you???!! o_O

I was ready to start saving all my single dollar bills

Proof that you're a tri-stater! ;)

My last trip to UNI was before Diagon Alley, so I'd really like to go back and experience that. I have issues with large scary things, so I'm ashamed to say that I rode most of Forbidden Journey with my eyes closed.

Minions was a lot of fun--except if you're in the front row. Don't let yourself be shepherded into the front row.

Not a fan of Starbucks..but glad their rent went down!
I would rather have Peets but that is in far terminal I'm never in or La Columbe cold brew but Starbucks is better then the coffee choices that were there at least. But I'm going to LA for business trip next week and will be getting coffee fix from the best coffee I ever had. I used to live in LA and it's probably the thing I miss the most. :geek:

I just went through Philly airport this past Monday (I'm from South Jersey and went home for the weekend) and as long as you aren't flying Frontier you should be fine.. The line to check-in at Frontier was LONGER than the security line. Well, the security line had more people, but the Frontier line took longer. Will never fly Frontier again, I usually go with Southwest but went a little cheaper this time. Never again! Thankfully I have Southwest booked for my Honeymoon :inlove:

Thanks for the airport positivity, I need to hear it! And he freaking better be my prince charming, I guess this Disney trip is the ultimate test LOL!! I will take you Minion advice and steer clear of the front! :)

Feel you on missing things. I cannot find a good bagel anywhere in the state of PA. I miss my Jersey bagels!!!

I'm from South Jersey too, Philly isn't terrible, but I prefer flying out of Atlantic City. I'm flying out of AC in 3 weeks, to avoid the drive to Philly and because AC is just so much smaller and easier. Philly did forget to put my luggage on my flight to Orlando years ago, but it did eventually get their the next day :banghead::banghead::banghead: ugh! lol

I would love to fly in and out of Atlantic City, it's about 20 minutes from my mom's house. But I live in Nashville now and there are no direct flights to AC and Philly is closer than Newark. Philly airport isn't terrible, it's just much more crowded than Nashville and AC airports lol

Thats the only downside of AC, they need to start flying to more places :)

You are going to absolutely love POR. It is by far our favourite resort out of all the moderates and Old Key West. It's just so relaxed, peaceful, beautiful... can't wait to stay there again in March!!!

Go ahead and request the mansions. You won't regret it. The buildings and grounds are gorgeous, they're close to the main pool, they have beautiful quiet pools, and the rooms are all great. Acadian House is our favourite.

Thank you so much for your advice! It just all looks so beautiful, I don't know where to request! It looks so peaceful, and old-fashioned... It reminds me of simpler times that I wish I lived through! :) I cannot wait, I'm glad it's your favorite! March will be here soon!!

LOVING THIS! Can't wait to get home from work so I can read the whole thing :)

Thank you :) Hope your work day went by fast, mine dragged! LOL

I just got back from a Universal/Disney trip. We stayed onsite at Universal and the Universal Express Pass was included with our room. I know they sell them as well, but I'm not sure about the pricing. If you can swing it, I highly recommend the Express Pass. You can pretty much walk-on any ride except for the Harry Potter rides and Kong. With it, we were able to pretty much do all of Universal in 1.5 days.

You are going to love POR. A few years ago, my wife and I stayed there in the Alligator Bayou side. We were just off the main path around the river so it wasn't too hard to find, but I agree with those who say it can be easy to get lost in the pathways through that area.

Also, we flew American Airlines out of Philly airport for our trip and had no issues.

We will be there at the same time, we get there on the 9th! We've never been to DW during NJ week-have you? Here's to hoping it's not too bad. We are NY transplants living just outside of Philadelphia now as well. We fly out of Philadelphia any chance we can so as to avoid Newark. I would rather drive all the way back to JFK then leave out of Newark. We've never had any issues with lines or things being chaotic at the airport and have gone through security with relative ease, but then again, we usually fly at 6:30 in the morning, but I'm sure you'll be fine. Your trip plans sound like they will make for a very memorable birthday celebration-and maybe you'll come home with a new addition to your left hand!

That express pass sounds awesome! I am hoping it won't be toooooo crowded the week I am there, as I already have PORS booked! I am kind of hoping for Alligator Bayou but I refuse to request one or the other because I want it to be up to the Disney Gods of which part I get to experience! It's too much for me to choose! One day I'm drooling over the mansions, the next I'm wishing to be put in the Bayou. Decisions, decisions!

Thanks for the positive feedback on the Philly airport. I will stay positive! :)

Maybe I will see you there! :) I'll be at Hollywood Studios the 9th unless they release the fireworks schedule and it's not on that day! I went during Jersey week in 2011 and it wasn't bad at all! I actually liked being around people all from the same part of the country, LOL! Compared to going in August, it was DEFINITELY much less crowded. Epcot was busy, I guess due to the festival, but everything was manageable! And I'm knocking on wood that I don't jinx myself :) LOL

Didn't mention before, but we always fly out of Philly and really have never had problems. If anything, our biggest complaint has been baggage claim once arriving home - but that might be part Disney blues, part cranky, tired traveler-itis too.

Just arrive early to avoid any security back up. Although in my opinion, no airport security has ever been as bad for us as Orlando departures!! Total zoo the last few times!!

If you're going to be packing heavy, just know that the Bayou doesn't have elevators, so if you end up with a 2nd floor room, you will have to drag those suitcases up stairs. We've stayed in both Magnolia Bend and Bayou. Always requested Acadia in Magnolia Band... has its own small pool and laundry room. However, no matter which area of POR you select, request a corner room. While the room size is the same, the extra window makes it appear larger... more light. Don't remember if you can select through online check-in or if you have to call. I've drunk the DVC koolaid and am now a deluxe snob, but POR is hands down, the best moderate (IMHO). Sounds like a great time will be in store for both of you. That time of year is amazing weather in Orlando. Just make sure to pack a light jacket.

Thanks for your tips! I will give Philly airport the benefit of the doubt and go in with an open mind! I will definitely be there early, grab a drink at the bar before take off! :) You made me a little less nervous about flying out of Philly! So thank you so much!!!

Thank you for the advice! I will for sure request a corner room! :) I think my online check in is in 20 something days so if it doesn't let me type anything I will give them a call! At first, I thought you said you drunk dialed the DVC and I started cracking up imagining this.. But I would love some of that koolaid if you are sharing :p One day I will be DVC!!!

My friend honeymooned in Disney two Novembers ago, and in some photos she's in shorts and a tank top, in others she's wearing a snow hat and a northface jacket. Will listen to you and bring a light jacket! I can't wait for it to be here!! :)
