Golden era of World Showcase

“More rides than ever before”? What rides have been added since Maelstrom? Rat doesn’t count as it’s not open yet.
Well it's about to open, too far along to cancel now.
Does switching to the angry reaction with no additional comments added count as well? Since you brought it up and seem to be a chief abuser of those reaction emojis without actually providing any input as to why.
Not that I know of but I'll let you know if I get told that. ;) Seriously, I don't always have time to write a response as I scroll through the forums and sometimes react to posts then forget to come back to it. I apologize for upsetting you by that.

Trust me, it doesn't upset me in the least.

So again, please define "more rides than ever before" in World Showcase, not including Rat. We can't ride it today, so it doesn't count.

I do count it, it may not be opened but it’s months away from opening. WS has had two rides for 22 years, we are finally getting another way past due.

Perhaps not golden, or even classic, but six-year-old me really enjoyed Skyleidoscope back in 1986. It was inventive, to say the least.

as was Surprise in the Skies which came later.........and despite all the recent IP being added and shoved in everywhere and even with all the festival booths WS was still keeping true in terms of feeling and enjoyability etc....but now with all that crap metal taking over the lagoon its done for, for me anyway. They have found a way to disgrace it and ruin it once and for all making their destruction of this park official. Blocking entire pavilions, esp AA, its just wrong on so many levels. (yeah just wait till that big wheel comes out),,,all for an overblown show that runs for a few minutes at night,, Ive said it before but will see how long it lasts.

People obsess about parades and fireworks on a level that was never seen before. I don’t get that...with advancing technology that should be “less” impressive.

But Disney will oblige...because then they sell it to you over and over again. And you say “take my money! “ for it.

It’s a huge mistake to block the showcase views. I know people already are defending them for it...but the aesthetics are a part of the appeal. Epcot will suffer...whether they know it yet or not.

so the more I go to epcot since these things have been put in the lagoon the more I don’t notice. I’m not saying that I still don’t hate them, because I do, but for the most part I don’t even notice them anymore. It really didn’t upset me as much as o thought it would. I’ll have to see how I feel once they’re all out there though.

I've said it elsewhere, but I think the fountains might actually make it worse, at least in terms of noticeability/sight lines (overall they should be at least somewhat more aesthetically pleasing than just the barges sitting there). There's almost no way they won't look ridiculously oversized.

Probably late 1990's, early 2000's. I liked WS better when the merchandise offered in the shops was actually from those countries. I liked the WS restaurants better when they offered more authentic food and a better variety. IMHO restaurant quality went down once the Dining Plan was introduced, though that could be addressed by changing the DP to a prix fixe menu. I'm not opposed to IP in the pavilions as long as they make sense for the country. For example, using Frozen in Norway is a nice ride but not right for Norway. Instead of retelling the movie, they could have used the Frozen characters to take us on a tour of neighboring Norway.

Tend to agree here. It actually seemed like the people who designed and ran the pavilions back then had actually visited the countries and legitimately tried to bring a taste of things that weren't widely available in the US at the time. At age 12, I found the Norwegian pavilion so compelling that it gave me a lifetime desire to visit the actual country (since accomplished several times as an adult).

Agreed. This was when the World Showcase was my favorite part of WDW. Each country really felt like a step into another culture...

Many times, we use the excuse now of "Because of the internet, all of these foreign places and goods aren't strange anymore - so the WS can't be like that anymore."

I just don't agree with that sentiment at all. Yes, I can go online and buy a German Kestner doll, but nowhere that I know of in America can I go in a store and pick one up. I don't want to see Duffy the stupid Disney bear in Der Teddybar - but an authentic Licht bear - which I am much more likely to buy.

My problem with Frozen @ Norway is the way they did it. It's the freakin' FROZEN pavilion now. The idea of it being the "Norway" pavilion now is very marginalized. They could pick it up exactly like it is, and plop in in Fantasyland, and it really wouldn't be out of place.

The Stave Church wouldn’t really fit in Fantasyland.

Clearly princesses don’t have any natural place in Akershus, but that’s not Frozen’ fault.

It’s 100% the “princesses fault”...or their IP masters.

1 meal period was tolerable...rebuilding the whole pavilion around a movie was dumb.

But as I recall and often debated on another forum...frozen was proclaimed a month after opening as “a once in a lifetime PHENOMENON!! that will never be duplicated!!!”

My stance was it would fall back to the pack inline with the usual suspects.

I’ll still stand there.
