Going solo and YOMD

Hello,

I'm just curious, does the YOMD apply if you're going to WDW solo? I would guess that things like a dream fast pass or Mickey ears would apply. However, would you qualify for a night in the castle? How about a cruise or future WDW trip? Is that level of prize reserved for families?

Not at all. For example, the Castle suite prize is for the guest chosen, plus up to a certain number of family or friends of the guest's choosing (present that day). If that guest is not traveling with anyone that day, then only that person stays in the suite that night.

Its seems as if they target familys.... at least thats been my experience in the past year (from what I have seen) IMO. I have not won jack. Yet... when my sister and her husband went a couple of weeks ago with their friends and their kids.... they won 3 things in a weeks time.

Now I know folks are gonna come in and jump on me and say it completely random, computer generated... yadda yadda yadda... yes I know. I'm just saying what I have witnessed in the past year.

Let me know if ya win anything. Good luck.

There are things that you are going to be excluded from because you are a solo travlerer because certain prizes were meant for groups. However, you can still win things like Dream Fastpasses, lanyards, and the ears because those are generally given to everyone exiting an attraction.

Hey Ryan I was thinking the same thing. I 'm traveling alone too and thought there is no way they would be singling someone who is traveling along

Conspiracy theories aside. All prizes in YOMD are awarded to an individual located in a pre-determined place at a predetermined time. To do otherwise would create liabilities that Disney would not risk.

Question: Sometime ago I read on this site that someone comment on a YoMD or a magical moments that happen as they got off a disney Magical Express at their resort? Have anybody else any tales about such happening at their resort (not at any park please). Plus if you have any tales anywhere else beside the park (DTD, water parks, mini golf, cruise lines etc. I would like read about it also.

As I understand it, anywhere on Disney property.

Every single area on property is required to give out Magical Moments, so they could happen anywhere. You just see more at the parks because each area in the park has to do it, along with the Dream Squad. Lots more opportunities there.

Yes, it may be computer generated, but that doesn't mean the instruction to the CM couldn't be:

"Find the first family outside of the bathrooms near City hall that are wearing Disney themed clothing."

or

"Find the first family leaving Haunted Mansion at 15:31:28 and award them the castle stay."

The instructions themselves "could" specify a family. We just don't, and will never know the answer.

The one thing i regret not doing is going into the trashcan in tomorrowland after a Dream Squad CM opened his envelope.

He read it, tossed it, and waited for another squad person to show. I watched him, he did nothing for a little bit, but was looking around - like looking for someone. Then, from up on the TTA I saw him escorting a family (parents, tween boy, young girl) toward Main Street (and rpesumably wherever the super secret prize place is) along with more squad members.

I really really wish i had the nerve to stick my hand into the trash can outside of Monster Inc Laugh Floor and see exactly what that note said.

To note - of all the prizes i;ve seen award and folks photographed for publicity stuff, I have NEVER seen a non-family win prizes bgigger then hats and lanyards.

My point exactly. I know that this is a major marketing tool. But, I wish they would market WDW as the place for anyone to get away from it all.

Imagine if they had a few commercials with businessmen in suits riding Splash, a doctor and his wife riding Body Wars, and an auto mechanic riding Test Track. The idea, to show that more than just families with kids will really enjoy WDW.

They're missing out on big opportunities. Especially for business travel. I'll bet many people travel to Orlando for conventions, and simply steer clear of WDW because "that's for kids."

Also, the whole "anywhere at WDW" thing is bogus. There are predetermined distribution locations.

While many are major attractions - what are the chances of someone over the age of 12 being in "Where's the Fire" in Innoventions West unless they're adults with children? Or how about riding the Triceratop Spin in AK?

Both are frequent distribution locations.

For Dream Squad, yes. But every area has to do some type of Magical Moment. For example being the Guest Skipper on Jungle Cruise to being escorted into the park and taken back to an attraction and given VIP access from Front Entrance Ops. You won't see any cool Dream Squad members at either of those, but they are still a part of the YOAMD. I only know people who work at the parks, so I can't give the specific examples of what they do in the other spots on property.

Magical Moments are not part of the YOMDs. They existed, en masse, well before the promotion started.

Disney chose to utilize them and force the cast to give them out more frequwently, a relaunch if anything, but they've been around for years. There is nothing special about them for the YOMDs.

Except for the fact that CMs are required to do a special number of them each day in order to satisfy requirements put in place to go along with the other YOMD activities. For that reason I would consider all the stuff they do a part of the promotion even though they did technically exist beforehand.

And i'm going to take a moment to rant about Magic Moments!

Do you know what they used to be before the YOMDs?

Same certificates on satin finish card stock, but the CMs gave out much better "moments."

What's a current one? Going to Mouse Gear, playing a match0game which Disney Uno card stuck to a white board, and having a pre-printed "Moment" and "Location" handed to you by a CM who scribble your name on the card. In the past they at least had to fill in the "moment" and "location." Whoo! Aint mass produced magic fun?

In the past.. aside from actually filling out the card... the Moments were things like backstage tours, and FP's for all the attractions in the park (yeah - well before dream FP lanyards), amoung many other actually cool and special experiences.

For YOMD's they hired a crew, a crappy one at that, to dictate the "moments" which would have to be given out by areas. They spent countless hours coming up with random things for guests to feel magical about. Real fun things like picking up trash with the custodial team, playing stupid Mouse Gear match game, and other stupid crap.

Crap. Crap-crap-crap. Mass produced unmagical crap.
