GMR Gangster Scene...

Past TG of GMR

I used to work at GMR last summer (hopefully I'll be working there again this New Years). The car breaks all the time during the day. All the computers have a mind of their own. There are millions of elements to that ride which sometimes decide not to work. I guess it a way to advertise GMR as being a completely different experience everytime you go on it. Usually they aren't very noticable, but don't worry, the CM of the ride always report when anything isn't working.

Hey Timekeeper! Correct - the AGV (cars) in ToT don`t use a horizontal track. There is however a guideway they roll over to keep them off the mirrored floor. Pretty much like the load/unload/Theatre 1 at energy has metal guides on the carpet. Any of these vehicles could (and have) been driven outside!

I went on the GMR on Teusday night, and NO it was not working, and let me tell you, that was the weakest ride I have ever experienced. My tour guide was very monotonous, and the gangster was not very animated... It was a little disappointing, but at the same time, we were the last ride of the night at 10:15, so I guess that could be a good excuse!

Nevertheless, the GMR is still one of my all-time favorites. :animwink:

I thought the Tower of Terror did not use any kind of "track"...? . . . It's otherwise a completely flat surface, void of track.

Not quite. There are some raised guides on the floor in addition to the metal areas that marni1971 mentioned. I know this because I stumbled over them once while we were being evacuated. :)

Timekeeper

Yeah, it has a guide-rail type track that you can see, because of the wear, just as ytou start top move out of the elevator shaft. I think most people don't notice it though, because they're looking at the effects ahead...

The car worked for me in late march.

I'm sorry, but no it did not. The car has not worked since January or so. It's been "being fixed" since then, still without result. It is NOT permanently removed from the show, however.

"Funny thing is I have always gotten the gangster scene, I never even knew they had fire in the western scene until like a week ago."

They hardly run the A show (Western) anymore. Guess they don't want to pay for all that propane/natural gas and the repainting of the bank. Typically there are 5 sets cycling in the attraction it seems for the last 3 years there has been 3 or 4 sets with just the B show, and 1 or 2 sets with both.

Believe it or not it's not a case of budget cuts - it's the way the ride is programmed. Like any attraction, the number of vehicles is dictated by the expected in-park attendance. The less in-park, the less vehicles need to be used. The way the ride is programed, you can run a "B" (Gangster) alone, but an "A" (Western) must always be followed by a "B" for blocking / triggering reasons. In order to run five "A" shows, you are left with no choice but to also run five "B" shows with them - and 10 vehicles at near 70 people per vehicle on a low attendance day just isn't necessary.

Its just like when they had herbie on the backstage tour on residential street. I think i saw him fully functional the first time for grand opening when i was there hopping up and down, lights flashing. Every year after that it was "hey look at herbie....parked. ooooooo ahhhhhhh.

Lately they have been doing the Bandit show... I should know, I live with one!!! As for the car, if I remember correctly, it has been broken, and noone has came in to fix it. I believe most of the time right now the focus is being spent on preparing other attractions and giving updates to older ones.

Good point GhostyGreeter however dont you think that they should fix the more popular attractions when they break? I mean personally GMR is one of favorite rides at Disney! :hammer:
