Glow With The Show ears now work at Fantasmic!

The Glow With The Show ear hats, debuted earlier this summer to interact at World of Color and in Cars Land stores, restaurants and attractions, has now debuted across the Esplanade at Disneyland.

Last night they held a special AP party (that I wasn't invited to!) to debut the new Glow With The Show technology. Here's a great video with hits and highlights of how the ears interact with the Disneyland version of Fantasmic!.

And here's Main Street USA after the premiere, with lots of Glow With The Show ears walking out to the exits.

I wonder where else in Disneyland Park they'll have the hats interact? I assume the new Princess Fantasy Faire next spring is a given, but what about the fireworks? Or the rumored (Mr. Lutz) return of the Electrical Parade next year?

It would be great if they could get them to work for some of the attractions. I'm thinking they'd be great for Pan, Buzz and Space to name a few. I'm glad they're being used at both parks now!

They look great with the show and boy does Fantasmic! look great these days almost as though it just opened! what a concept!!! :)

I can really see Believe... In Holiday Magic and Wintertime Enchantment being the next. Maybe perhaps Halloween Screams.

These things are great unless you are sitting behind someone with them on while trying to watch fireworks, etc in a prominently dark place. They are annoying.

I will be a sucker and pick some up on my next trip. I promise to have them off in attractions and during the fireworks. Maybe I can then wear them annoyingly at Fantasmic in DHS and complain when they don't work. Oh wait, that means I would have to go to Fantasmic at DHS. I can't bring myself to do that.

I've seen a YouTube video of the DHS Fantasmic! show. It's definitely not as good as the DL version but it's not terrible either. I don't understand why they won't update it. I wasn't impressed at all with the Pocahontas scene either.

No it's not terrible. It just really does not have the same feel. I've always hated the Pocahontas scene from day one. I understand they weren't going to build a Columbia just to use for the show nor a Mark Twain (that substitute decorated barge just doesn't do it for me). Even just getting there and getting seated is a let down atmosphere wise: giant concrete amphitheater vs New Orleans Square/Tom Sawyer Island. I was spoiled in that I saw the DL version a dozen times before the DHS version opened. It was also a little bit of hyperbole. I will actually be at the DHS version on Monday with some out of town friends. ;)

I don't like that it's in a theater either. The boat at the end is underwhelming, agreed. Especially when you compare it to the Mark Twain. The choreography the princesses do on the floats isn't as impressive as DL's either. I'd skip it if I ever went to DHS. Not worth my time. I hope you and your group enjoy it when you see it!

We just got back from a great DLR trip and DS had to have these ears! I knew what they were all about and honestly, I tried convince him to buy the ones with the light up fireworks design instead just because I wasn't sure if they were worth the hype. The only show we truly were able to "test" them on was WoC and for the most part they followed the show. DS asking us every 60 sec if they were working which was kind of an annoying distraction,no matter how cute our kid is. But hey, he loved them so it all worked out.

How much do the ears cost?

When you go to DHS raven, try not to skip Fantasmic!. It's a perfect metaphor for the differences between WDW and Disneyland, and I think you'd enjoy it from that angle.

As you know, at Disneyland the show is organic and grows magically (and I rarely use that word!) out of the same walkways you wandered through earlier in the day and on the same attractions you rode that afternoon. And as a major entertainment offering, the Disneyland team has given it major rehabs every year for the past few years, plussing the show with new technology and impressive new additions, and keeping the original sets and features from 1992 in sparkling new condition. It's a triumph of engineering and artistry and showmanship, lovingly maintained year after year.

At WDW, the show was built in 1997-98 in a rather bland looking aquacade amphitheater that sits dormant and empty until after sundown, sort of like the lightly themed dolphin stadium at Sea World. The bleacher seating is a nice touch for those of us who aren't getting any younger, but the hawking of glow swords and hot dogs beforehand while the bored audience starts doing the wave gives it the feel of a high school football game, if high school football games were held in the dolphin stadium at Sea World. And then there's the show... once reasonably impressive in the late 90's, but now been neglected for over a decade. The audio and lighting and stagecraft are from the last century, and it shows. The show wasn't blessed in 1998 with a Columbia or a big Mark Twain, and now that the rest of the show is looking noticeably neglected and a bit frayed around the edges 15 years later, the whole thing is kind of sad.

There's potential there, but TDO has made a series of purposeful decisions over the last decade to not live up to that potential.

Fantasmic! on each coast is perfect metaphor for the currently popular WDW vs. Disneyland topic, and if you have the time on an upcoming WDW visit I would recommend you go and see it, if only to gain a clearer understanding of how the two coasts operate so differently. And the bleachers are a nice touch, honestly.

I absolutely can't stand the word "magical" or any derivative of it! Glad I'm not alone!:D

Hhhmmm, maybe I will check it out. I don't know, it just seems like a waste of time. I've been so spoiled with the Disneyland version. Guess I'll have to see when I actually go!

Actually, I will revise my previous comment. It was terrible. The only saving grace is that I will catch the DL version on the 15th before I get back to doing my work trip on Sunday. It is nice to have bleachers to sit on but the show itself is a fiasco. I think it will just make me appreciate the DL on even more having just seen the DHS version.

:/ I'm trying to understand why they won't update the thing, especially considering DL's has been updated a number of times! Makes no sense. Laziness and cheap at its best.
