Globe Barge Malfunctioning?

Tonight I noticed that the Earth Globe Barge didn't open at the end of Illuminations; effectively destroying the finale of the show

Anyone know what the deal is? Was it a one-night glitch or are they working on it?

There are two songs in the show, the 10-minute piece, and the 2.5 minute pience(We Go On) the barge doesn't open until the 2nd song. From the way that the barge works, there is more of a chance of getting it stuck opened rather than closed as the weight of the "petals" forces them to the down position because they are so heavy. But for the problem, was there inclement weather that made more of an appearance during the show rahter than before it?

Was it EMH for EPCOT, because they have 2 shows now. So they may save some of the fireworks for the next show. When we were there in early April at one point the streamers that go off from all around the edge of world showcase lagoon did not go off, and it was EMH for the park.

Oh, I know the structure of the show. Believe me, I've seen it plenty of times

And it definitely did not open. Whatsoever. There weren't even torches showing on the LEDs, which made me to believe that it was under some kind of rehab.

But who knows.

Nope. Regular night.

Also, sometimes they do not do the perimeter fireworks if there is a drought condition because of the proximity of the trees. This happened several years ago after a month drought.

The weather was beautiful. Not a cloud in the sky. At least not any dangerous ones. It wasn't even windy.

How recent was this? I know that the barge was missing from the show for several months fairly recently for repair to the LED screens (they gave them a higher resolution.)

Stop trying to make excuses for Disney, they can make plenty of their own. It's not a big deal, the darn thing broke.

I'm pretty sure that rehab has not happened yet.

They also won't use the perimeter fireworks if there is too much wind.

Sounds like a one-night glitch to me . . .

By the way, they never removed the barge recently, despite rumors to the contrary. No one seems to know what's going to happen or if it'll ever be upgrade as rumored.

I'm not trying to make excuses, I'm as surprised as the OP is. We are just trying to figure out why it may have not worked

I think that a GH54RT module didn't send the HK signal via the mansard relays. This in turn cause the widget to stop the watchamacallit from engaging the doohickey. When this happens the acme igniter's inside of the barge do not work as they are supposed to - thus the barge does not open, and no fireworks are launched from it. Unfortunately this seems to be happening more and more recently. I heard that WDW ordered replacement parts but they were delayed coming out of Timbuktu.

The new video system has not been loaded yet. Maybe they are trying to do the refurb without putting the barge out of commision?
Last I heard was from boo that the refurb was oushed back until march.

Another explaination is that at any time, show control can delete timecode signals if neede. For whatever reason, this had to be done and the show did not end the way it is supposed to.

I have seen it where the globe gets stuck and doesn't open and the fireworks shoot out of a hole in the top! Looks like it is on fire or a volcano erupting. Sometime technical things happen and things don't go to plan. It's just one of those things it's no big deal. If you have seen the show so much I am surprised you have never seen this happen? I live in the UK and don't get to resort as much as I would like but even I have seen that happen twice.

The fireworks didn't shoot out of the top. Nothing came out of the globe.

Look at it this way - at least they didn't shoot off the fireworks with the globe closed, possibly causing damage :)

I'm sure the barge shuts down automatically now if it doesn't open, or somebody hits an E-stop button for the firework controls on the barge just so there is no damage to the barge.

This has happened before. Think of it as you playing a game on your computer and your at the final stage fighting the boss and suddenly your computer crashes. Thats what happened...just one of those times the computer locked up. If the torches were not on the screens, the entire barge was down. Like any show, it must go on, so they keep going without worrying about it. Better that than try to reboot quickly and the barge be out-of-sync with the rest of the show.

As for the Earth Barge rehab, they test a new show minus the barge back in January with plans to take the barge down sometime in March or April. Obviously something is preventing that, and for right now no one really knows when or if its going down anytime soon.

And yes, just like every other barge, the Earth Barge has an E-Stop to prevent potential damage. Look at the bright side...I've seen the show before where they had to shut down literally half of the barges on the water during Celebration. It was enough that even guests who had never seen it knew something was up.
