Glass Panels Along TTA Route Inside Space Mountain...?

Okay, I know these went up a loooooong time ago, but why do glass panels now run the entire length of the TTA route inside Space Mountain?

Originally, after emerging out of the tunnel with the space scenes, when you are first able to see (in the dark) and hear the SM coaster vehicles, the wall of glass panels between the TTA and coaster extended only along the portion when you can look down directly into the queue area, and then they stopped, leaving an unobstructed view of the tracks, albeit a very dark view.

A number of years ago they continued those glass panels along the entire length of the TTA route inside the mountain.

Has anyone discussed *why* they did this? :veryconfu

I would imagine it's a safety issue to have the glass enclosure. This would prevent anyone from throwing objects towards the ride. My best guess anyway.

I really miss the ability to see the RYCA Family of tomorrow from the TTA and the areas of the ride when IYHW was there. Seeing into Buzz is nice, but nothing like the three areas you used to be able to see in IYHW.

Is that what used to be behind the windows that are blacked out? You can still see the windows on both sides of the TTA track when you're in the tunnel over Buzz and Timekeeper. I've always wondered if those ever looked into something.

Tossing (cookies)

The glass walls are only, what, about 6 feet tall? Were people chronically throwing things over the the rail and into the queue/ride area? If someone was *that* motivated, they could still easily throw things over the glass...

I just didn't see the need for the glass to continue along the portion where the TTA only looks out into the darkness of the ride area...

...it does make flash photography nearly impossible though, with all the glare from the glass.

At least one of them used to overlook Dreamflight.

If you dropped something over the wall and it hit the floor of the ride, would the sensors find something, and stop the ride?

The windows use to look into If You Had Wings (Version1&2), then (I think less) looked into Dream Flight (Version 1&2), then much less for Buzz.

I would think it's saftey both ways - things falling out of the cars and hitting people on the TTA, and people throwing things out of the TTA.

I don't mind the glass (plexiglass?), I just wish it wasn't so gross - it's always dirty because morons are spitting at it and such.

He's Got Glass

It occurred to me that some of you may be thinking of something completely different. The glass panels that I am referring to are all *inside* space mountain, between the TTA and space mountain queue area. When you look at the coaster tracks, you are looking through glass panels. They were not always there. This is right before you pop out of SM and back into the blinding daylight.

It will only stop the ride if something heavy enough lands on the sensor. If you throw like a gatorade or a soda and it bounces off or even lands on it, chances are nothing will happen.

Those glass panels are there for safety reasons. Two safety reasons. The one is so yes, things don't get thrown over by idiot passengers. However, the main reason they are there is so when they perform evacauations of TTA, the passangers and CMs have a barrier between them and their death.

Maybe they also function as a barrier that can be covered up when a refurb is going on at space mountain. Then they wouldn't have to close down the TTA they would just need to cover the plexiglass much like the tunnel at buzz.

We installed those, so here is the answer. It was for safety reasons. It was because of people throwing stuff off TTA,throwing stuff at TTA,people spitting off TTA at people in the Queues, and also so people on the TTA could not jump out of the cars in Space Mountain, and also for Life Safety if TTA stopped and guests had to be walked out.:D Oh,by the way they are actually Lexan not Plexiglass panels
