So I am taking GIS class in school right now (GIS is a geographic layer mapping program that is used for city planning Disney used it for Celebration and the expansion of WDW in the 80's) my professor told me that one of his colegues was called in to GIS map the 20K plot and Toon Town.

1. I will call this a rumor because it's coming from one person but I don't see why he would make this up. Do you think they are seriously getting ready for TLM?

2. Why would they be mapping Toon Town?

3. Did anyone else here about this or that can confirm it?

WOOOOOO, Props to all GIS'ers :)

GIS Tech for 911 checking in haha.

(I'd love to do some GIS work for Disney, would be toooooo cooooool)

2. Why would they be mapping Toon Town?

It could be basic mapping going on, it doesn't necessarily mean anything will be added. The purpose of a GIS is to create a map that has layers of information. They could possibly be mapping out the buildings and attaching info about the buildings (capacity, layout, etc) or they could be doing the water/sewer systems (pipes, flow, etc) for future reference. It could be anything though.

I would like to see a Roger Rabbit CarToon Spin ride at toon town.

I LOVE RR, but I didn't think CarToon Spin was a great attraction. It has potential, but the car spins so much you frequently miss some of the best stuff on the ride.

But I was hoping that they would EVENTUALLY resolve this problem with Amblin and bring RR back to the parks.

Sounds fishy to me.

Only Disney freaks (like all of us) would even know where the 20k plot is (let alone its actual size, or that it's currently a source of much rumor), or be able to name toon town.

It would be much more likely that someone would say "my collegue is doing some mapping work at Disney World in florida" or "at one of the parks".

That's awfully specific.

He's still prominent in Tokyo... You could always head over there...

My professor specifically said Toon town and a large empty area near it while he didn't say 20k what other big empty area would he be talking about? I also said I can't confirm this and made this thread to see if any CM's could confirm it.

Mapping is a specific type of job. How horrible to look at a map and be like "this street is kinda around this area" haha. It's a specific science.

In my job we aren't allowed to say "I think it's here" or "Well, that's close enough." It's either done to a T, or not done at all..

It might be sooner than you think. With Dreamworks live action movies now under Disney that means so is Spieldberg. And just this week Robert Zemeckis has said he is working on a new Roger Rabbit movie.

Disney doesn't have Speilberg under their command. Just the rights to distribute the movies. But who knows? Maybe with this distribution deal, fences were mended. I hope Roger Rabbit does come back to the Parks.

Spieldberg is now working with Disney. No they don't control him but they are now working together. This hasn't happened since their falling out from Roger Rabbit. I don't believe it's a coincidence that now Zemeckis is talking about doing a RR sequel.

That's not what I meant. I meant using those terms and getting that specific about it sounded fishy.

I'm quite aware that mapping isn't a "general area" sort of process.
