Simple:

Take her. When you get to your room, go in and pull the sheets back and look along the edge of the mattress. If there are bugs, they're always visible along the seam at the edge of the mattress. If you see any, ask for another room. If you don't, re-make the bed and enjoy your vacation.

Just to clarify.

You will NOT see the bed bugs. They hide in cracks and crevices - comming out only at night.

What you WILL see is their droppings (Which is dried blood). If you see small black spots along the edge of the mattress, that is beg bug evidence. You will most likeley see nothing that looks like a bug.

Your best bet is to not even bring your suitcases into your room until you have inspected your room...check the mattress, looking along the crevices, and looking for brown, spotty stains; look behind the headboard, as they'll hide there during the day; check the drawers in the room for spotty, brown stains; take a flashlight and shine it in the crevices of mattresses or corners of drawers; if you find nothing, your room should be fine.

Let her know she can pick up bedbugs almost anywhere nowadays...they've been found in dressing rooms in clothing stores (even nice clothing stores), in college dorms, and in office buildings (even a very nice office in NYC). If she's really nervous, tell her to pack all of her clothes in sealed plastic bags...you're more likely to get them when your luggage is being transported with an airline than you are at the resort.

Good luck! Hope you can get it all worked out!

Put her mind at rest by pointing out that, even if the room is free of bed bugs, she could pick a few up on any attraction you ride with fabric-covered seats, including restaurant chairs and if you go to the movies...

feel better? :lookaroun

Seriously, unless she lives in a hermetically sealed environment, she's susceptible to picking up a critter many places. If a coworker took a trip, came back to the office and sat on a sofa in a common area, she's a potential carrier.

I'm staying at the Caribbean atm, I don't know if it was the bed bugs or what, but me and my wife got one of those red bumps that look like a blister.

But I really don't think this has anything to do with the hotel being moderate/deluxe etc. I guess it all depends on how they maintain the room.

Early this year, we stayed 5 nights at the Grand Californian (Disneyland).. that's $400 a night right there.. but man.. the first night we had those blisters, we complained and they moved us to a different room.

We had a good experience at the Animal Kingdom Lodge though.

The clue is in that she is a woman, freaking out or blowing a gasket is just state normal. Its only the initiator that varies

Fortunately I've been here long enough to know to give this one a ...

OP, if your girlfriend doesn't want to go, don't make her go ~ I'm sure you can find plenty of volunteers that will be happy to fill in! ;)

Me? I am going with her or without her.I figured out of my immediate freinds and family I am the most informed person there is when it comes to WDW. I hav'nt heard a thing.

Good for you, and good you are realizing that she "freaks out" over random crap she reads on the internet now, before you have a kid and she is constantly diagnosing them with every disorder she can Google symptoms for every time he sneezes.

Tell her she'll be fine if she avoids Disney's Pop Century Resort.

Is that supposed to be a knock on "oh people who stay in Values are dirty and have bedbugs"? Asking, not accusing.

If it is...you'd be surprised to find that the problem is just as, if not more, rampant in upscale hotels across the country as well.

I learned in another thread that there are plenty of hookers running around Disney property. Heck, they're probably the one carrying the bugs, come to think of it.

But anyway, she's replaceable - especially if you spent all that money, only for her to cancel. :)
