So, just curious if any of you have had any experiences that could qualify as run ins with the supernatural. I know Lovecraft has (if he would ever post anymore. :( ) They were taking calls on the radio this morning with people who allegedly had stories, so I was just wondering... do you?? :)

We had a ghost here when we first moved in, a very quiet little old lady.
She went thru the dining room into the living room and then the bedroom. We had just finished fixing up the house. Guess she was just checking it out. We haven't seen her since.

There is a road in the next town that is haunted...many quiet nights you can hear the rider go by on his horse. *shudders*

I don't know if I would call them run-ins with the supernatural or not...but there have been two incidents where I thought I had.

1. I was laying in my bed and I rolled over so that I was facing the doorway (no, it wasn't a dream, I was definitely awake). This shape was standing in the doorway...like a person. I couldn't make out if it was male or female, but it was just a shape. I can't even tell you how to describe it...it was sorta like if you had a round glass ball...and if you look at it, the stuff behind the ball gets all distorted. That's KINDA what it was like. (Not a vapor or Casper).

2. Same house (the one I'm currently living in...which has been in the family for decades). Before we painted the walls in the living room, I was sitting in there watching TV. Something made me look at the wall. I looked at it and I saw my grandfather's head...in the wall. I wasn't just imagining this because it was VERY detailed...not just the general shape. Everyone that I showed it to got weirded out. Needless to say, we painted that wall next.

Like I said, not sure if it was the supernatural or just something that I can't explain.

Well, I will admit having gone to a psychic earlier this year :lookaroun :o (Actually, she was creepily... is that a word?... right on about some really specific things) But she said to me "You have happy spirits in your house." I nodded thinking she meant this in a "Your family is happy" kinda way... and she said "Oh, you've heard them?" Me:  "No! I didn't know you meant those kinds of spirits!"

(Or perhaps she knows about the many bottles of Jim Beam and Jack Daniels under the sink... in which case, I HAVE in fact heard them) :lookaroun

I belive in them. I had seen two apperations:
1. Was i was about 10 I was sleeping I woke up because something fell. I awoke and saw a girl in colonial type bedgown clothing. After that I learned that where my neighbor hood was an actual farm where the houses were. Just didnt know where they buried the dead..:lookaroun

2. Was after my brother got a bunkbed, me and my brother both slept in the top bunk, well I awoke and saw an older man staring at my brothers bed from down the hall. I told my dad and he said more than likely it was my grandfather. I dont know what he ever looked like because he died when i was two weeks old.

I have a friend who grew up in a very old house. There is a slave cemetary at the edge of the property. I stayed over at her house just once...around 4 am I was awakened by the sound of footsteps on the stairs; they had a working dairy farm so I thought her dad was getting ready to start the day.
Then I heard talking in the kitchen (just below the bedroom) and the sound of drawers being opened & shut. I got out of bed, but the entire house was dark. When I mentioned it to her she just laughed...seems the slaves were just "starting the day". Never spent the night there again.

I live near many Revolutionary War sites and there are many stories that go with them. It seem that the entire Hudson Highlands are haunted.

Brian, I sometimes wake up at night and think I see my mom sitting on the edge of the bed, I think its because I miss her so much.

I hunt ghosts. I use a regular camcorder and 35mm film. I've gotten quite a few ghosts and orbs on camera and on film. I had a ghost sit on the end of my bed one night and play with my sheets. There is also the ghost of a lady in a long dress and a man in my dad's house. There was an article in the Richmond Magazine (oct. edition) about us and our ghost hunting. My picture is in there. If anybody wants to see it, PM me your email address and I will sent you 2 pictures of the article. Pretty neat. Ghosts do exist. I know because I've seen them. You do not need high tech equipment to see them. Orbs can be caught using a disposable camera. You do not need to be in the dark to see them. We cannot normally see them because their molecules move faster than we can see. That is why you can catch them on film. the faster the speed of film, the better. The more energy the ghosts can draw, the more you can see them. They have to have energy in order for you to see them. That slows down their molecules to where they are moving as fast as you can see. If you would like to know more, PM me.

1. What you saw was a ghost. Sometimes you will see a ghost but you don't know exactly what you are looking at because they are not fully formed. That ghost was drawing energy from something but it hadn't quite gotten enough energy to hold form.
2. That probably was the ghost of your grandfather. Ghosts can show up anywhere. There might be something in that house that he is attached to, a picture, the house, people living there, anything. You might see him from time to time or you may not. Its hard to tell.

I think we have one in our house.. but I've never actually seen it. I've just seen the things it has done. It loves to open the windows. The most memorable was when I was hanging 3M window treatments (special plastic you put over your windows in the winter to prevent drafts.. use a hairdryer and it tightens up and becomes smooth and clear) on the windows of our house in preparation for winter. We have newer windows that have a tendency to pop open an inch or so if they aren't locked shut. I was starting with a window in our bedroom. I double and triple checked the window to make absolutley sure it was locked before I hung up the plastic. I didn't want to get it all done and then have the dumb thing pop open.. it kinda defeats the purpose. Got the plastic taped down around the edges and went it to the bathroom to grab the hairdryer. Came back MAYBE 30 seconds later and the window was all the way open. Not just an inch or so. ALL THE WAY OPEN. Tore down the plastic, closed and locked the window again, put the plastic back up. Thankfully the rest of the job went without a hitch.

I can handle things like that. But if I ever see or hear anything in my house? I am SO out of there!!

I love ghost stories. I have vistied several haunted locations in our area
and am intrested in ghost hunting. I can handle seeing or hearing things in other places (not lucky enough yet) but just not in my own home.

Brian, Vince, consider yourselves on my list. :fork: Vengence shall be mine!!

(have I been watching too much Buffy? :lookaroun )

My husband's aunt's step father died, around Christmas, and one night she and her mother were talking about him. He was apparently a wonderful man, though I didn't know him. Well, they were talking, when all of a sudden one of those battery operated candles they had in the window lit up. One of them went over to turn it off, and it wouldn't turn off. Turns out, there were no batteries.

Once when I was young (7-8 years old), my cousin and I were spending the day and my grandparents house. Grandma, cousin, and I went to the next door neighbor's house for a visit. While there, Grandma and the neighbor tell us that the house is haunted. We don't believe them. Grandma says she has seen the ghost. She had been babysitting their kids one night and was in the living room watching TV. A lady in white walked in the front door, glided right past her, went in to the bathroom, turned on the faucet, and disappeared. She said she calmly walked in to the bathroom, turned off the faucet, and sat back down in front of the TV as if it were no big deal. Cousin and I looked at each other and ran out of that house so fast I don't think our feet ever touched the ground.

I only have 3 experiences:

(1) I was 14 when we were still living in CT. I was babysitting for a couple who lived in few hundred yrs old house (it had always been in their family). Anyway, they downstairs was being renovated so the family lived in the huge attic. One night I was doing my homework when I happened to look up & there was an old man standing on the top of the stairs. I though I was seeing things, closed my eyes to clear them, then I look again. We was still standing there and smiling. I smiled back and went on doing my homework. When I looked back up he was gone. YEARS later my Mom confessed to me that she would never go into that house (they were friends of hers) because it was haunted. Gee Thanks Mom.

(2) I was getting ready to go the funeral home last year to see my friend who had suddenly passed away. I was alone. I had just gotten done putting my makeup on and reflecting on how she had died to young when something patted me on the head. Of course no one was there. I initially thought that maybe it was my Granny telling me to get a move on, BUT when I was getting ready to leave. My deceased friends husband started patting me on the head while we were hugging goodbye. It wasn't my Granny after all.....

(3) happened in St. Augustine. If I haven't bored you all, let me know and I will give you that story as well.

I havn't seen a ghost, but I believe in them. My family owns this old grand father clock that used to belong to my grand parents ( go figure  ) The clock doesn't work anymore though. The only way to make it work is to push the pendulum and make the clock tick. I was the only one in the living room turning out the lights for bed time and all of a sudden behind my back the pendulum started swaying makeing it go back and forth going TICK TOCK TICK TOCK. Now I'm an only child, and my mom and dad were in bed. Perhaps grandma was trying to make her old clock work again.......

We used to live in a house that was right on the cemetery. But since this is S.FL it was a flat cemetery with no statues or ornate headstones like you typically see. The other weird part is, the former owners of the house (husband and wife) both died in their 50's while still living there and were buried in that very cemetery that was behind the home. You could see their graves from the fence. And my grandfather was buried there as well, and yes you could see his grave too.

Anyway, I have never been scared of these things and still am not. I, honest-to-goodness, believe that they are forms of energy and sometimes don't realize they're dead. There would be nights and days where everything just SEEMED weird in the house, even if you never saw anything. I sometimes smelled odors that didn't belong to anyone of us living there, like old lady's perfume or strange spices. The day we moved in I saw a man walking passed the window in the bathroom, just straight passed in MY yard. So I was banged on the window like, "Hey, what are you doing dude?" but he didn't turn back. I opened the window to look out and he was gone. I ran outside to see if he was still in my yard, no one, nothing.

I once came home from work and heard talking in the hallway, but I couldn't make out what they were saying, thought maybe it was my mom talking from her room. I went down the hallway and there was no one there. I looked into the bedrooms and everyone was sound asleep, including my mom. I went into the kitchen and heard it again. No one was there. It was almost like buzzing. Hard to explain.

The most strange thing that happened there, besides the number of dreams I had of being possessed, was the time I was in my "office" on the computer. I saw someone walk passed the door, quickly, really close to the doorway and without saying anything. It was about my b/f's height so I figured it was him and I said, "hey". No reply. I was like, "Hellooooooooooooooo". Still nothing. I heard something tap on the glass door in the direction he was headed. I got up, 'cause then I was thinking he was mad at me. No one was there, a vertical blind was moving and my boyfriend had been in the shower the whole time. WTH did I see? It was dark and had a human shape to him.

Personal experience: I lost my ex boyfriend back in 1999. I had just found out and was sobbing for a really long time. While crying, I heard someone tell me, "shhhhhhhhh". So I looked to see who it was. No one, of course. I thought I was losing it since I'd been crying for so long. I was kind of weirded out, but still thought it was me. I started crying again, and it happened again. After that I was too scared to cry anymore and went to sleep :/ This could have easily been written off if the following hadn't happened a few years later. The room I was crying in, eventually became my son's room. He was crying 'cause I'd punished him and sent him to his room. His crying picked up so I went in there to see what was up. He said - in his words, "I was crying and someone told me to Shhhhh". *twilight zone*

My b/f and I were sitting in the backyard facing the cemetery one night while he was having a smoke. The yard is gigantic, mind you so it's not like we were admiring plots or anything. The chainlink fence was overgrown with foliage so there was nothing to see really. We were just chilling and something enormous ran something or itself all along the fence fast as hell and it made a really loud noise. We looked at each other like, "ummm...hold me?" There was nothing on OUR side of the fence, but we couldn't see the other side. It did it again and we just went inside. I didn't even want to know.

The neighbors used to have a dog, that I swear barked ALL NIGHT LONG, AT something. Like it would be facing our fence and barking its head off at what appeared to be nothing. We eventually threw a wooden fence up LOL.

When my son was a baby and he'd wake in the night, I'd go in to rock him and sometimes he'd be staring at the wall, just over my shoulder and giggling. If there were some kind of spirits in that house, they had to have been good.

Other than that dark person, and the guy outside the window, I haven't actually seen an actual "ghost" how you'd expect to see one. But I've been visited many times in dreams by people I know who've passed on.

The house we live in now is freaky too, but nowhere near as weird as the one on the cemetery. I think most of the time, people were just passing through that house. There was never anything regular about the incidents except for my son being entertained during our nighttime cuddling.

Do tell.

Incidently, I went to CT for the first time in my life in August. We were in Waterbury. The houses there are freaking old and scary.:lookaroun
