Getting turned away for "wedding attire"

So you can't dress up to go to the MK? If I wear a three piece suit, will I be denied entry?

Apparently! That's what I'm getting from other people, at least. If it can be considered "wedding attire" they can deny entry.

It does seem a bit odd that you wouldn't be allowed entry. Is it perhaps a safety issue? I guess they just want you to wear the bride and groom Mickey ears.

No, it's not a safety issue. I've gotten a lot of comments elsewhere about this and apparently it's to ensure that people aren't going into MK for photos. It would seem that MK is the only park that you can't book a private photographer for and so they have to make sure that people aren't dressing up for pictures. Which seems stupid because wearing a knee-length white dress (which I've seen hundreds of in stores that are NOT related to wedding attire in any way) does not mean you are getting wedding photos...

It's for guest protection. It protects all guests from creeps pretending to be a prince/princess and starting their own meet-and-greets where they diddle the kiddies. It also protects the guest dressed formally from being mobbed by crowds who assume there's a princess walking around.

Nope. This is what I thought too, but I stand corrected. See above :)

Girl, if you show up in either one of those two dresses I want Disney to turn away all the other guests for not being worthy of you!

Surely, (the name's Shirley, right?) the sloppy shirt with print is not the only acceptable park wear? Bless people who dress up a bit for the MK!

I like your thinkin gurrlll

I think because you are getting married on property and no one else in the party will be in wedding attire it would be fine. I think the only thig that would make it suspicious is if you had an awesome camera with you as well.

Also you an get pictures at the Magic Kingdom but it is the most expensive package and can only happen early in the morning.

I just want to take this moment to say that I LOVE all of you here at WDWmagic. I asked this same question at Disboards and there's about to be a smack down over there. I have been told that any white chiffon dress is apparently a wedding dress and have been told that I am trying to get under the radar and get out of paying $1500 for a photo shoot (by the way, we're paying for a photo shoot at a different time, and are also going to MK to go on rides with our families, not take pictures).

I just... I love you all. So much

Yeah, they actually don't offer wedding photo shoots in ANY of the parks from like, October through January! We're planning on having one at either the Polynesian or Grand Floridian, whichever has a better view of the castle :D

Like the poster before me mentioned, you can get photos at MK but they are done before the park opens. Wedding dresses are not allowed (from what I have heard) so that guests don't think the bride is a "princess". I can see why Disney would make this rule.. If a bunch of brides decide to all wear their wedding attire to the MK on a certain day... I could see why it might cause an issue. But the dress you picked is super cute and I don't think they should have an issue with it!!

Thanks! Like I said, they don't offer photo shoots in the parks during the holidays, so we're looking at the Polynesian or GF.

Also, the dress that got the girl denied entrance to Epcot was very similar to this one (I was asked not to share the actual photo):

My GF and I went to the MK for a surprise dinner at the Castle. I was in a button down/jeans/dress shoes, and she was in a red top w/ thin straps and a blue skirt that was not knee length, but not short by any means.

Cinderella complimented her before the pre-dinner photo. Aurora and the other Princesses didn't seem to mind either.

They mostly turn away young girls dressed to get attention. Not adults who are dressed nice to go out.

Ah I didn't see you were getting married during the holidays. Hmm I bet with the right price it could happen. I would vote Grand Floridian. If you time the photos just right you can get fireworks from one of the day time shows going off over the castle in the background.

I like dress number one. I would just have a back up just in case so you could change in the event someone does say something but honestly if I saw anyone in either of the two dresses you posted I would think they were just dressed nicely and not planning anything silly.

The first dress is very pretty :) and I think you should be fine if you have some accessories to transform it from wedding dress to just dressy outfit when getting ready to enter the park...i.e. just in case there's any trouble. A shawl, wrap, sweater, or something on top in a color other than white (you noted purple, which should work great) will make a big difference if you are unfortunate enough to get a CM who might question it. Having some backup jewelry - like a more casual necklace- something chunky (vs bridal refined) might also help.

While I can understand why they don't want people entering the parks in full on bridal attire, the dresses you've posted that you were considering seem perfectly fine to me.

Sorry to hear folks are accusing you on the other board! I love the first dress... to me it will look just like a "nice" dress especially if you pair it with the jacket you mentioned. The other dress you posted a picture of (the dress that got the girl denied entry to Epcot) looks way more wedding-ish and looks very princessy (is that a word) as well. I can kind of see why that dress caused her to be denied.

I have worn white and off white sun dresses kind of similar to the 1st one (which is also my vote, btw). Unless you have a full bridal party or your hubby is in a tux I think you'll be fine.

You mentioned hubby will be in khakis or something a touch casual, right? I've seen more obvious bride and grooms in the parks...more formal dresses with the bride and groom Mickey ears but like others have said, best to play it a bit safe since being denied entry could cause delays, even embarassment for some - I'm not easily embarrased but my sister would be beet red if she was denied entry because of a dress.

Take a little cover up, sweater or shawl of some sort and have a great time.

The worst thing that will happen is that you go back and change and come back to the park. Don't stress about this at all. You have other wedding things you can stress about instead, right ;)

Thanks :) My fiance will be wearing khakis (maybe even nice jeans) and either just a nice white shirt (short sleeves - he's Alaskan, doesn't believe in cold) or one of those tuxedo t-shirts. I'm planning on keeping the bride ears in a backpack until after we get in the park.
