Good Morning Folks. So you arrive at your resort on your first day.How important is it to explore it and find out where everything there is like the food court, restaurant ( if one is available ) shops, pools, etc.Of course if you've been to that resort before then it's just like coming home.I think every resort has its own beauty and individual charm, and I was surprised recently when I friend of mine who spent 14 days at PORS and during a thunderstorm, they decided to sit put at the food court because they never knew, until the last day, there was a gaming arcade.

I always check out the hotel I am staying at on the first day even when I went there before. The fact is when I arrive, the room isn't quite ready yet and is a good time to look around since the my flight arrives at Orlando in the afternoon. Most of trips, I don't go inside a WDW theme park on the day I arrive because of the amount full days I have. The day I arrive is basically unpacking, having dinner at a ADR that was booked, looking at Monorail hotels, catching Electrical Water Pageant and go back my hotel.

The fact is spend time in the main building on my trip besides the first day because that I where I get my breakfast. The other fact is I like mid afternoon breaks around 2:00. If the maid didn't come yet, I spend in the arcade.

Its very important to know where evrything is. Not to mention, its fun just to walk around and check out teh resort. We always eat in whatever resort we are staying at the first night we are there. Makes it easier to eat that first night where you are sleeping, rather than travel all over the place to eat athen go home and catch some zzz's.

First day is exiting and always memorable. We go for 2 weeks, so we do not go to the parks that afternoon. We practice delayed pleasure until that evening. We will visit the pool for quite some time and then either the pool bar or an adjacent place such as the Ale & Compass. Then it is off to Epcot for the traditional first evening and a quick service meal-usually Kringla. We sometimes just hang out in the resort shops, common areas as well. It feels good to be home again.

On the day we arrive we check out the resort and then jump in the pool. My mum and dad still think its funny that a 18 yr old (brother), 23 yr old (sister) and a 27 yr old (me) can't wait to get in the pool. Its a family tradition that started on our first trip when I was 16 and we had never been in an outside pool before. It felt amazing after a 9 hour flight from the UK.

We don't go out on the first day to explore every nook and cranny. As other UK visitors have said, we get to the resort about 4pm, I will sometimes take the kids to the pool for an hour while my DW unpacks (she doesn't like being in the pool). We will then go get something to eat and go to bed around 9pm orlando time (2am UK time:eek:).
We usually organise something for the next day that we know we will need to be up early for, breakfast ADR etc, as due to the time difference we will be ready to leave the room at 6am  .

I remember the first time we took the kids, having to get up at 2am, because their body clocks were telling them that it was 7am and time to eat and play.

We spend time every trip exploring not just the resort we are staying in, but at least one other Disney resort. Last time we stayed at OKW but went to AK to have a look round. It was a good job we did, as much as I like animals and had always wanted to stop there, it has shown us it is not somewhere we want to stay. Its just too noisy in the main building.

We will be staying at the AOA resort this year, so last year we took a look around to see where certain things were so it would be easier to get around when we check in. We feel more at ease when we know where everything is. The only thing we didnt find out is where the early evening outdoor movie will be if we get back in time or are just plain tired and want to catch a good Disney film.

We always take our 1st day there to explore our resort and take pictures, but mostly spend some quality pool time w/ our boys as well as quality Mommy and Daddy time w/ some pool bar drinks.:D
