Good Morning Folks. So you arrive at your resort on your first day.How important is it to explore it and find out where everything there is like the food court, restaurant ( if one is available ) shops, pools, etc.Of course if you've been to that resort before then it's just like coming home.I think every resort has its own beauty and individual charm, and I was surprised recently when I friend of mine who spent 14 days at PORS and during a thunderstorm, they decided to sit put at the food court because they never knew, until the last day, there was a gaming arcade.

Fr us, it's a tradition to eat at our resorts QS upon arrival so we definitely explore hat if we haven't in past years, and we do check out our shops a bit, then head to Magic Kingdom!!
We do the same thing, regarding eating our first meal at our resort, in our case was the Poly, this year eating breakfast at WCC since we're staying at WLV, then head to Epcot ;)

I always stay at the same resort (POFQ), so there really isn't much to check out -- personally, its usually a good idea to check out your resort and study the map so you know where things are...on the other hand, there are plenty of people that could care less what the amenities are: the resort is a place to stay overnight and they spend all their remaining time at the parks or DD...so it depends on what you plan to do at your resort.

Yup, like others have mentioned, once our bags drop at the resort we are off to a park. If it is a new resort for me chances are I've already visited it on a previous trip to check it out or stalked it to death on the internet (what the heck did we do before the internet?) Depending on when our first day ends at the parks, we will usually will check it out late the first night or some time the next day. We've never been sit-by-the-pool people so, once we are gone in the morning, we will return to the resort in enough time to change for dinner and then its back out until late that night.

Well we stay at POR and I believe our 5th or 6th stay there is coming up in June, so we know our way around there. But when we have done different resorts we've always explored on arrival day or the next day depending on what we were doing upon arrival.

We drive down from Canada and split the drive down into two days, usually arriving at Pop around 1pm on the Saturday of our Spring Break. After checking in, we usually head to our room for a bit to check it out and put our stuff away. Even though we have stayed at Pop (and only Pop) for all four of our trips, we still like to walk around a bit to soak in the atmosphere of being "home" again! After our short stroll, we ALWAYS head to the cafeteria to buy our new resort mugs and fill them while looking around Everything Pop and then take them back to the room before heading to DTD for the night. LOVE the Pop!!!!

You know its amazing you spend lots of $$$ on vacation and the kids want to go to the pool... I think pool time is great... You just chill and enjoy your vacation.. Parks will still be there when you are done... :)
I understand what your saying, especially with kids. But I remember staying at the CBR on our first ever visit in 2004,and we were heading out for the bus at around 10.00am ( we were wet behind the ears the first time ) and the pool was heaving??? When we came back from the parks about 5.00pm,the pool was still heaving, mainly with kids.??? I couldn't understand why, when all the magic was out there in the parks.I came to the conclusion that maybe they had used up all their park days of their tickets.

I have heard a guest one time say.... "We spent 3000 dollars for this vacation and all you want to do is go to the pool"... and I am thinking... Relax man Hes 5.!

We settle in our room and then dive right into the parks!

Usually we will explore the resort upon our return that evening or early the next morning. Typically you can get a feel for where things are at check in because even if you insist that you want to just get to your room the front desk always feels the need to do their spiel...it's like they are animatronics...Hmmmm?

Of course, but usually at night when we get home from the parks. I explore the hotel, even if I already have stayed there, and decide if I like it or dislike the hotel after strolling around, having food there, ect.

Most of the time our first day is strictly a driving day. We check in and hang out at the resort. If there is a TS I have an ADR for dinner there. We like to relax the fist night cause we know there isn't much relaxing after that. Some times I will build resort day into the trip, but that depends on the length of the trip.

We usually get to our hotel around 4ish, shower and unpack then head down to get our refillable mugs, quick look around any maybe a drink at the pool bar in the sunshine (a novelty for us UK visitors). Then we go either to MK or DD depending on where we are staying, and have a better look around our resort til the next day, or evening.

By the time I get to a resort, there's no immediate need to explore: I've already spent hours poring over maps of it, viewing 30-minute walkthroughs on YouTube, and obsessively memorizing every detail of the layout. :D

When we arrive from the UK it's usually early evening, so we unpack, head to the food court, have some food & then sleep! We are then ready to hit MK early the following day. I love exploring the resort that we are staying in & also visiting some of the others - always something god to see. Can't wait for our next trip (number 5) in October 2014
