Getting Rid of the Hat Ruin HS Hub?

It was grand seeing the theater without the hat blocking my view. I swear I almost choked up, having not seen it that way since our first trip in 1998.

While I'm not a fan of the stage that's there now, at least it's not as obnoxious as the stage that used to be in front of the hat. It still allows mostly unhindered views of the theater.

What I didn't like was the dance party that took place at night before the fireworks. I camped out in the hub awaiting the fireworks and had to endure a couple of hours of bass thumping. If management feels the need to fill that space with entertainment, I'd much rather see live entertainment (such as Mulch Sweat & Shears or some such thing) than a DJ. Or with such a huge backdrop of the theater, perhaps some sort of Hollywood-themed projection show akin to Celebrate the Magic. Or...just leave it silent and classy. Anything but a DJ.

The only positive thing to come from waiting through the dance party was the chance to see Robin Hood dancing to "What does the fox say?" and Bolt and Pluto dancing to "Who let the dogs out?". There was something fun about that part.

I honestly don't understand these dance party things. Yes, I understand that people hate standing in line and have no patience for waiting for fireworks to begin anymore. So, they must be "entertained" every second of the day. But, putting a wedding DJ on Hollywood Blvd doesn't make any sense.

They've FINALLY themed the new stage to at least fit within the style of the theater, so that's a good step forward. I think the next step as mentioned above is to have this entertainment be themed to fit the location. The parks have always been about transporting us to another era or location. So, EVERYTHING should adhere to that, entertainment included. This is why I love the Citizens of Hollywood so much. They fit the era and location being portrayed by the park (or at least the street they're on).

Why is it acceptable for theme to go completely out the window when people need to be entertained while waiting for a fireworks show? Entertain them with movie soundtrack music, or music from the "Old Hollywood era", or something that fits within the theme. I think that would feel more "Disney".

Whatever they do, the wedding DJ has to go. :)

Yes
Didn't they just used to build a DJ stage in front of the hat? I remember seeing that. So the hat being removed didn't cause this. I dislike the noise also, but removing the hat was a good thing.

Me, too, but we were on the losing end of that discussion....
I'm with you guys as well...I liked the hat. I felt it was the icon for the park...just like the ball is for Epcot and the castle is for MK. I get that the Chinese theatre is supposed to be the focal point, but if they keep covering it up with stages and stuff, it's obviously not that important to them. I'm in the minority here...but I'd be happy if they brought it back.

I got chills the last time I was at the Disney Studios and was able to see the view the way it was meant to be seen, without that blasted hat! I may have danced a little jig right there in the street too.

I don't believe that the Theater was ever considered the Icon. It was the Earful Tower that was originally the Icon. The hat wasn't awful if it had been anywhere other then where they put it. The street was supposed to create the movie theme in the park, not the cartoons, but, the people based movies of the 30's. It was an awesome sight to see the street from the entrance and set the mood. Then all of a sudden this big blue hat was right in the middle of the view. It was a very poor decision and the fact that they never removed it after the 100 year celebration, just made it worse.

If the hat would have been in the animation courtyard, this discussion would not be even necessary. They just plain ruined the ambiance of the park. The good news is that they are going to be changing the park and possibly it's theme shortly (relatively). Who knows what will happen after that. People that were not originally exposed to the park without the hat, think of it nostalgically. Those of us that did experience the park before the hat, knew what a nice sight line that was created. The hat was never meant to be permanent anyway, it was supposedly built to celebrate Walt Disney's 100th birthday.

I know my opinion is an unpopular one, but I miss the hat. I understand why so many people prefer the park without it, but considering it went up when I was only seven years old, that hat is in almost every memory I have of Hollywood Studios. The new view is growing on me more and more with every trip, but I do miss the hat.
As for the DJ, the stage ruins everything. I genuinely like the idea of character dance parties in the parks, but having one at the hub definitely ruins the atmosphere of Hollywood Blvd. for me.

NO! my only wish is that they should have moved it to another spot instead of trashing it altogether. I'm sure that was not possible due to the deconstruction method needed.

I liked it before the hat. I liked the hat. I like it after the hat. The hat was meant to be temporary. It was a nice change for awhile, and now it's a nice change without it.

The DJ thing - I don't remember ever seeing it. Then again, one of my first stops is usually the Tune-In lounge.

I would tend to notice a DJ thing. I cater to DJ's for a living. I have no anti-DJ bias. I love a good club. I just don't think people go to WDW to dance during the day.

Getting rid of the hat is one of the best things to happen in WDW since 2007.

The DJ location is a typically stupid local short sighted decision by a local management group that don't understand Disney parks. See Tomorrowland.

At least the dance party in Tomorrowland is out of the way.. it isn't right in the middle of the park.. you could go to MK and not even know a dance party was going on..

We were there in mid November. The first day we were there, there was nothing. The stage was there, but it was just the risers, no lights or speakers or anything.. They even had a photopass photog there. but 3 days later, they were building the stage.

I am in the camp that didn't mind the hat. I am relatively new to the WDW thing and it has always been there in my mind. I had no animosity towards it, but at the same time, no love for it. I wouldn't have minded it it stayed, but don't miss it now that it is gone. I liked the pictures we got with it as a backdrop, but I like the clean view (sans dance party stage) as well.

Try riding the Carousel of Progress and ignoring the incessant bass thump during acts 3 and 4. Let alone absorb what's left of any of the lands theme and ambient bgm.
As much as I understand what you are saying, I guess I just look at it differently. To me WDW or any of the Disney Parks are where people go to have a good time. If a dance party gives people pleasure, then, even though I wouldn't participate, I am fine with it and I think that it adds to the "fun" nature intended by Mr. Disney.

I enjoy the shows, but, I know that a bass beat in the background would not destroy my enjoyment of CoP. It's the show that I would be concentrating on and not the background noise, which I would think with the degree of sound proofing in that building (i.e. not being able to hear the dialog from one scene to the other) I truly doubt it is that distracting. Or at least it wouldn't be for me. I know it's an obsession with some, but, I try to not take my theme parks too seriously.

I would even have been OK with the BAH if it hadn't ruined the ambiance of the park. As I said, almost any other place, but, where it ended up.

It's not soundproofed.

The bass beat was overwhelming. I was told I wasn't the first to complain at guest relations about it.

Poor placement and poor show.

OK, must not have ever been on it during the party. I'll take your word for it.
Oh indeed. No Dj and it sounds absolutely fine. I was surprised how bad it intruded to be honest. But given you can see daylight under some of the theatre doors when seated they don't seal as well as they could.

The saga of the Tomorrowland stage's placement and design is well known. Thankfully DHS seems to have recently got it right in one respect, but still get it wrong in another.
