Getting caught taping attractions you aren't allowed to tape.

This came up in another thread, so I thought I would bring it up on a new thread so more people can respond.

What does Disney do if you are caught taping a ride you are told you can't tape? I don't just want opinions here, I'm looking for actual experience please. Have you or somebody you know got caught? If so, what did they do? What CAN they do? I've read on another post (some months ago) the worst they will do is ask you to stop.

What about a worst case scenerio? What if a guest is repeatedly asked to stop, and continues?

Castmembers out there, any experiences you could share with us?

I've recorded MOST of the rides in WDW. From the Backstage tour to Splash Mountain. I have never had my camera confiscated from me. There was only 1 occasion when I was taping the Twilight Zone Tower of Terror that at the end of the ride when the cast member opened the door; he told me that taping wasn't allowed. But I had already taped the whole ride and he didn't take it away from me. That was the first time I was ever confronted about it. Actually, I taped that ride at least twice if not more, but that was the only time I was told anything about it. I don't think they would ever take a camera away from a person UNLESS they RECOGNIZE the same person taping the ride over and over.

They CAN legally confiscate your camera and/or film. By purchasing a ticket and entering the park you obliged yourself to follow their rules. As with any private property, the owners can do almost anything they want except harm you or restrict your ability to leave.

If they ask you to stop filming and you refuse or are intentionally disruptive about it they are likely to have you removed from the park. Unless you were snapping pictures backstage they'll probably let you keep the camera and film.

As long as you aren't disrupting the show with flashes or external lighting most cast members won't care. Space Mountain is different because if someone lets go of a video camera it could hurt someone else on the way down.

No one thinks getting thrown out ever happens.

It does. No one goes home and admits to their friends that they were thrown out though.

One the backstage Animation tour, I saw a foreign group taping the entire thing on their small little camcorder. As soon as we got doen with the tour and exited to the gift shop, there were 4 or 5 disney security personnel there to "meet" these guests. They spoke little if any english and the security guard took their camera, removed the tape and searched them for any more tapes. They took all they could find and returned the camera to them and sent them on their way. This is one attraction that they seemed to be strict on the videotaping rules.

If caught videotaping, they will take the tapes/digital media, and wipe them clean. Then they will return them. If caught taking pictures, they will remove the film and expose it OR get it developed, cut the bad negatives/destroy the bad prints, and return what was OK to do.

My cousin went to the House of Blues and started taping, the film was erased and he was thrown out, then the very same night he went to Cirque de Sole (sic) ,started to tape, got a tap on the shoulder. They said please come with us. They took the video tape and escorted he and his wife out. It happens and not just in the parks....

That kindof sucks, They told me they were going to confiscate it from me on Space Mountain, Next time I will just, Put the Camera on my lap, on the lift hill, but leave it on, so u can see going up.....

But its funny, i was at Universal the other day, and i saw many people taping alot of rides, Someone was taping King Kong, And the guy saw him, and did not ask him to stop. Same on Jaws and Twister.....

Attractions & Tapes.

If Disney is that hung up on the taping of rides - where are the lists of rides/attractions that state it is forbidden ?
Are there signs at the entrances to these rides stating it is forbidden or are guests "kindly requested not to" ??
Shouldn't these points be written on the reverse of the tickets?
When last there in '01 I had no problems at all filming the shows, rides etc.

Is WDW becoming a camera unfriendly zone ??

I have heard its all about "coppying" them. But if we film it so much that we would want to copy their idea, I would have no idea where we would get the money, Or anyways try to since they have pretty much copyrighted everything........ it would be allitle hard to! I dont know y Disney is not letting u tape stuff anymore, i think its allitle unfair. Either that or they want u to pay alot of bucks to come back and visit, Instead of riding the rides on your own tv set...

There all in it for the money i guess...

I don't think there are many restrictions on taping rides. I've been on attractions from Splash Mountain to Poseidon's Fury with a camcorder, and the only person thats stopped me was a person at the load station of Jurassic Park. He told me video taping was not allowed, and that's it. I don't think it's a huge threat to them, but I can see they want to reserve there right as being the only place to see these attractions. That's why there's not that many places online where you can download entire ride videos.

That may not be a strong reason, but it could be a reason.

The other thing is that as a major entertainment company, they want to reduce the risk of injuries or damage to personal property.

If I'm sitting next to a man with a camcorder in my hand, and the ride suddenly takes a stray turn and the camcorder hits him in the head, they can scapegoat the park for not providing adequate ride security or properly restraining the guest for taking the ride video. Its a safety mechanism.

Although most parks post signage say they will not be held responsible for lost or damaged property, they can still be sued for various reasons.

I was recently on Gwazi at Busch Gardens with a cell phone. I had been talking in line, and I put the phone in my pocket. TWENTY MINUTES after that, when I finally sat down at the head of the car, my phone securely in my pocket away from view, a CM asked me to please put the cell phone away in a locker.

Why did they wait so long to tell me? Who knows. But had the CM not asked me to do it, I had the freedom to pull my phone out during the ride which would cause it to slip out of my hand into the person's face behind me, who would then sue the park. (who would do this is beyond me) The park would have an alibi saying they had told me to put the phone away.

I noticed that a contributor to WDW magic replied on here and I was just wondering. If taping attractions at disney is so bad. Why do you have footage of them on this site?

Mike - to answer your question, just look at your avatar!! :animwink:

In all seriousness, I've video'ed attractions before, but haven't been kicked out. Just chat with the CMs and see if they'll let you do it. If not, then, well...have the non-English tourist next to you film!!

There are many attractions that let you videotape. They are very strict about using external lights. You can videotape most of the time as long as you don't use a light. Shows are usually the places that you can't tape.

Last year while visiting IOA, 2 A-holes were taping the Jurassic Park ride in the front row and the A-hole even turned the light on during the dark parts of the ride. Even after repeated warnings before the ride began(which they ignored), the camera flew out of the hand of the "cameraman" after the drop. I Almost ed my pants.

which contributor? me?.. I didn't contribute any videos to this site... all I've given is news and several HUNDRED 'legal' pictures (which have yet to be used). As for the title contributor, anyone who shells out $5 per month can get it
