Get Over It!

Roddy,

In your case, I understand why your mom would feel like that.

Do you think she would feel the same if she had been on Pooh, TT, MS, etc. or is it partly just because she hasn't been on the replacements yet?

I guess that's one of my biggest pet peeves in something like this. People (not your mom) in general will often bash (without even trying) Pooh, TT, MS, Stitch (probally) no matter what replaces it and they won't admit that the replacements are good rides.

It's ok to like replacement attractions. It's also ok to have really fond memories of old extinct classic rides. Why do we have to choose? If I enjoy riding Mission: Space, does that mean I still have no right to wax nostalgic on the great experience that was Horizons? Nobody needs to get over anything. You don't have to take sides.

From what I know of her, she'd definately like Pooh more than Toad, and that's the obvious choice for the regular crowd. It could have been different if Disney would promote more "The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad", but even then Pooh's just a marketing behemoth, there's no contest.

As for the others, well, she's a "mom". I suppose she'd say the same thing I say about TT, that I can drive my car real fast at home, I don't have to go to WDW for that. And I'm not comparing it to WoM, that's just what I thought of it. She'd NEVER step into Space, she doesn't enjoy theming. As for AE, she's never been to it, and she's watched Lilo & Stitch but it didn't do anything for her, so it'd be "just another attraction" either way.

I totally understand what you mean, when you say people complain either way. In my case, concerning Space and AE, I have very clear opinions. I still haven't been to the first, but from what I've read, I don't think it'll be a "do it again" attraction. "How can you tell if you haven't been to it?" Well, I know what I like. I may be mistaken and end up being as much a fan as all the people who have changed their nicks because of it, and I certainly hope so, I'm not out to dislike everything new Disney cooks up! As for AE... Well, they say they're changing it because it's too scary for young kids. They say they'll be adding Stitch while maintaining AE's spirit and concept. Well, to me it seems this will generate MORE frightened kids! I mean, they'll go in expecting to see friendly Stitch and will be terrified when he starts running over them and touching them in the dark while they can't see him. But of course, I'm waiting to see what will come of it.

As I said tastes and opinions differ, we can't do nothing about it. I mean, I don't hate the JII because evrybody said so. I hate it because I rode it and thought it was no fun at all ESPECIALLY when remembering what used to be there. And I haven't been to the new one, so while it seems better than the previous one, I don't know it it's as good or better than the original. I like the new Tiki Room, I think it has its funny moments, and I especially like the pre-show. But I also like the idea someone gave that, if they wanted to change it, they should have added Stitch there and keep the Hawaii feeling to it. If something is good, I gotta say it's good! After all, I'll be living with it for some good years, right? But it's bad, don't tell me to like it just because it's "a thrill" or because "everyone liked it". I'm not jumping off no bridge just because you did it and thought it was cool!

To everyone:

Let's cut the Doctor a little slack here. I completely understand where he is coming from and what his intent was when beginning this post. This is not someone who has shown anger or animosity towards others in this forum before, IF ANYTHING, he is one of the few in sea of 'whiners' who attempts to give you the POSITIVE side of things instead of just solely focusing on what he hates/dislikes.

Many of us read other forums/websites as well and have to endure this massive "chicken little" syndrome that is so present in this day and age with the internet. I myself sometimes just get to a point of feeling annoyed/frustrated/sickened about the way people go about this, that enough is enough and I start a post/thread, that can come off as "harsh". That is not my actual intent- more emotions than anything else. This is what I interpreted when I read this thread, and for one I APPLAUD him. Yes, it would be nice to never step on anyone's toes and be all peaches and cream, but let's face it, most people don't want to ruffle feathers, so it's nice to have it every so often. Heck, you have all the "Disney is going down" whiners, why can't we have a few "Disney is and still will be great" lovers? People seem to think nowadays that if you have a positive outlook you are being nieve. Too me, the people who are negative are the ones being nieve, since you are being programmed to think that everything stinks, times were better in the past, etc, which is so evident in today's mass media news outlet.

When you constantly read that replacing Stitch with AE is bad because it is a "character invasion", then in the next breathe, people complain that they are making rides for teenagers only, and not the family. Think about it, AE is for TEENS not the family, they are turning a TEEN ride into a FAMILY ride. You can't have it both ways!. This is but one example of many currently out there that has 'chicken little' lovers all hopped up.

People unfortunately fear change in any aspect of life and this seems to be no exception. Times change, people's tastes and desires change. Do you really think if Walt was alive that he would keep all the original attractions and ONLY keep adding new ones to new space? Do you except the Magic Kingdom to have 100 rides? Personally I think you would see more of Walt's original ideas changed or removed IF he were still alive. It would be okay then, because he made the decision. Do you not think that the Disney Corp is ultra sensitive to not annoying people, so they have been a bit hands off over the years? Granted, they have to change SOME things, and maybe they are not as "rooted" in the "original" philosophy as in years past, but even Walt knew business 'sense' (even if Roy had to drill it into him).

There is nothing wrong with "missing" older attractions that are gone, but it gets to a point of saying to yourself, why do you keep complaining over and over, when you know they are not rebuilding the World of Motion pavilion?

I have the great fortune of being able to visit the parks on a weekly/daily basis, and I don't want everything to stay the same year after year. Nor do I want widespread and massive change, but I welcome the new additions with the HOPE and POSITIVE spirit that it will give me new/better/different experiences, while at the same time I can enjoy and relive classic experience that are still around. Why should I have fear and trepidation before an attraction even opens, when most of all the previous ones have give me so much joy over the years?

KevinPage, I absolutly agree with you, Why can't there be more "Disney is and still will be great" lovers? I've been going to WDW for literally longer than I can remember and the park is still magic to me. Yes, I miss attractions that are gone, but there is a time to move on. Nobody is saying that it is wrong to miss old attractions and long for just one last ride on them, but it seems, to me at least, that this has become too much of a priority here on these boards. IMO, if you live in the past, you'll miss all the good things that are happening around you right now- and there are quite a few wonderful things happening at WDW now, such as Mission: SPACE, Philharmagic, Wishes, wonderful parades and shows, the upcomming Everest, and other exciting new attractions.

I think that you can reminis (Spel?) about old attractions without whining about them. I would have to go back to read anything I have written but I'm pretty sure anything I have said I missed that was all I said. I never said the new stuff stinks or anything like that. In fact the attractions I have been on that have been replaced I have liked all the new replacements for the most part.

I think you need a balance between remembering your past, living in the present and looking forward to the future. Just because I think about spending spending time at WDW with my family as a child, did not mean I did not enjoy it with my wife or look forward to taking my daughter in the near future.

I have always loved WDW, and I assume I always will. Change is good, but there is nothing wrong with remembering and enjoying remembering the past.
