And yes - the first cast member to enter must tell George good morning, and the last one to leave at night must tell him good night

Always just at night. Never EVER say good morning. He can be woken up that way.

Okay, story. So I, in Jungle Costume, was waiting for a friend to get off work at Pirates. I started to go up towards tower when I was told she was at Load 1. I ended up waiting on the stairs going up to tower (kinda like a shipman's ladder, but a little wider and tiny bit less steep). Waiting there, a rag that had previously been hung on some pipe about three steps up fell to the ground and then a brief rush of air--almost like someone had accidentaly knocked the rag off in a hurry down the stairs. I hope that makes sense.

I've got a couple more encounters in that building that might be him or someone else.

I remember that.
We all have our share of George stories. We just don't often like to talk about george with guests.
I know you all love your ladders... it can be an automatic safety reprimand or termination if you are caught climbing George's.

According to my research George was a designer of Pirates of the Caribbean who unfortunately died in the attraction and has haunted it since. Every morning the first cast member to enter has to say, "Good morning George" and the last cast member out at night has to say, "Goodnight George," or something goes wrong on the ride. Whether it's superstition that they do this or it's really a haunting, who knows. It's a cool story though. There are many versions of it. The most popular version I read was about George being jilted by his lover, who was playing Prince Charming in a Magic Kingdom show. His jilted lover, whose name was Troy, apparently fell for Cinderella and they decided to run off together. George found out about it and went to hide in Pirates of the Caribbean but Troy and "Cinderella" decided to ride it before they ran off. Mind you, this was before it was open to the general public. George was apparently drunk and carrying a gun. He was sitting in a hollow that's just over the drop and he carved into the ride itself something to the effect of "George + Troy forever" and he heard the ride start. When he saw who was riding, he shot Troy and "Cinderella" and jumped to his death.

It's far fetched. Most reports go with him falling to his death. Either way, he's a ghost who's responsible whenever Pirates breaks down.

that's interesting... but i'm not sure if i would be scared to George... but i wanna meet him hehehe :D

I too have also heard that George's wife comes to the park every once and a while to ride the ride. Also, I've heard rumors of cast members who've seen a man alone come to ride the ride either early morning or late at night before close and he boards the boats but disappears between the surveillance cameras and the boats are empty at unload. :lookaroun

I was always told that he was one of the construction workers working on the ride. In the battle scene, with the ship to the left, one of the building support beams in the corner fell and killed him. Ever since then, the paint on the wall at the water line always corrodes around that one beam and needs continuous repainting. However the rest of that wall is not affected by the corrosion of the water. I had not heard about the tower. I do know about the door, that sometimes opens, and will shut the ride down.
A few years ago on the ride near the battle scene I said, "George, let us know if you are real", and right then our boat stopped for about 3 seconds, and continued to move. It was very creepy.

Was his last name Circuitbreaker?

Of course all of us PotC CMs have George stories. Mine is one that fits into the category of someone boarding a boat after the ride was closed and disappearing before Unload. I was actually in the boat, too, as was a fellow CM.

In an earlier post, someone was talking about a secret hiding place that George designed. Well, I doubt he designed it, but there is a really creepy part of backstage PotC called Hell's Hallway that is very hard to get to and very hard to even be in and when you're there it's REALLY scary. It's kinda behind and above the jail scene so all that fake fire makes it look like hell.
