CONFIRMED: Jennifer Dubin- Future CM 31 MAR 02
I work at Disney World right now, and I operate Pirates of the Caribbean. George was a worker on the ride when it was built. He was involved in construction mainly. He was also close friends with Walt and Roy and had a close history with them. Two of the pirates have his face. In the Burning City scene, on the right hand side, there is a tower with one window. This is the tallest onstage point throughout the ride. This is George's Tower. He was up there to survey the Burning City (which was his favorite scene), and in coming down the ladder, he lost his balance and fell. The fall is the equivalent of four and a half stories. That is how he died. For any cast member to climb the ladder is an automatic termination because of the danger. We do not say hello or goodmorning to George in the morning, we say goodnight to him after we close. On mornings which the night before was missing his goodnight salutations, no more than 3 full cycles of boats have been completed before an E-stop, or and Automatic Power Disconnect. He is real, he isn't mean or haunting, but he can be mischevious. When walkin backstage by yourself, the plastic boards you walk on, you can feel someone walking behind you. If you're running he runs. It's not all the time, but it does happen. Not all E-stops and APDs are George though. The ride is quite tempermental herself. She has been operating since Dec 15, 1973 so she's old, which is why now, the ride is going under renovation until July. Another thing about George. He has a door that can be seen from the Unload station. If it is open you can see flames from behind the jail scene, and having George's door open will stop the ride. No one is ever back there, not even Maint. or MGNT. and yet the door sometimes get's opened. The ride has never even survived one full cycle of boats when George's door is open. He really doesn't care about guest going through the ride saying/thinking "George isn't real" he only cares about the cast members, cause we're the ones he is trusting to run the ride. So think it all you want. George isn't going to APD for you.

So, since Disney is always doing all those shows in conjuction with the Travel Channel, maybe they should call up that dopey "Most Haunted" and get them to find the dead in Disney World. That Derek dude can have a ball making up all sorts of wild things. He'd probably swear that some of the skeletons were once ALIVE:eek: .

Well, actually...back when Walt was planning Pirates (Over at Disneyland), he decided that Skeletons were a must for the ride...however, at this point in time, they didn't have any of those neat, lifelike plastic ones sooo....he bought several real skeletons that had been previously used to study. So yeah. Yum.

That sounds like the proper George Story.

Well, most of us here have also heard about the Haunted Mansion and the little boy that haunts it. Actually, the last time I was on Haunted Mansion less than a month ago, I was telling my 10 year old son the story whilst on the ride. I think I told it too well because even I was starting to get scared, and right before the graveyard seen too! :hammer:

Anyways, once we exited the ride, I asked the CM at the unloading area about the ghost boy. I think I said something like, "Isn't it true that the Mansion is actually haunted by a little boy?" She very seriously answered, "Oh yes, for I have seen him many times." Or something along those lines. She actually talked to us a bit more about it. Now mind you, she may have been in character but she sure seemed "dead serious" (pun intended)!

George was a contractor who fell from the highest point in the attraction while welding metal prior to the attractions opening. We call the point he fell from George's Mast, or George's Tower. George is most noted for opening the door in the jail scene, which is behind where he fell.

Has there been any odd voices heard on the Pirates ride that aren't recorded at all? Is George a special case of "Dead Men Telling Tales"?

I yelled "I Don't believe in George" once... The ride didn't stop.. But we were subjected to little dolls representing different countries and some song called It's A Small World After All kept playing over and over..

I'm pretty sure the story of the little boy is for DL's Mansion. According to legend, the boy had died and wished to have his ashes spread across the mansion. When is family tried Disney said no, but they went ahead anyways. Rumor has it the boy can be seen wandering the halls and grounds after hours.

Now at WDW's mansion there is rumor of a ghost who does not say a word, just rides around. He always boards somehow between load and unload, giving the load CM's quite a spook. It only happens late at night, when 1 stretching room is running. He appears in the break between the 2 rooms.

I remember hearing about George (I always say "George isn't real in my girls ear when were on it.) The above posters story was almost exactly what I had heard, but I heard a large beam landed on him, and that was how he died. I also heard he had designed a hidden room in the ride where he would go and hide when he got too stressed out. Bottom line George is real.

Ah, I believe that would be the man with the cane. I believe one member of these forums who works at the HM claims he saw him....

I was waiting for you to chime in... :)

I, as a Jungle Skipper, was collecting Lost and Found from Pirates last Christmas. I had just been up to tower and was heading down to greeter. Right before I opened the door in the AC room to head back outside, I said "Merry Christmas George" and some black masking that can be pulled over the door shifted a little bit as if he was right there watching me. Figured that one's safe to say.

That would be the little boy. There's also the old man with the cane. Have heard stories about both of them, but they're not mine to tell. Oh, and yes, imagineer boy, there is a CM on the forums that whose stories they are.

Is this something genuinly well known?
I wasnt to ask the cast members about him when I go and make conversation with it but when I tried this at another park I got looked at like a freak and I felt about 2 inches high:o

Well known, not really. True, yes. Asking CMs? I wouldn't suggest it. Some may deny it, some may leave you hanging on the subject. You're gonna get different answers from different CMs. There are (or at least were) some pirates CMs who don't (didn't) believe in George. Mostly CPs (and I'm not going off of the CP stereotype, I'm just saying most of the CMs who don't believe are CPs)

I have had numerous friends who have worked at Pirates, and I myself have had run-ins with George. George was a man who did work on the construction of the ride, and he did fall....hence George's Tower (where he fell). George was not gay, George has a wife who is still living to this day (she made a visit to the ride last summer). And yes - the first cast member to enter must tell George good morning, and the last one to leave at night must tell him good night

And what is George's reaction to the new refurbished ride? He a Johnny Depp fan?

Well the ride has broken down several times, which is something he is known for doing, so I am guessing he is not happy.
