To me, SW has always been primarily about the Jedi, the Force, the dark side, and the mythos. The "war" stuff outside of that has been secondary and a way to involve the others.

We've yet to see the war aspect of SW to truly be about just light side vs dark side. It's always been about political and military aspects with the Force and Jedi playing a role (or not, in the case of Andor).

This is why the Jedi origin story is so exciting and intriguing to me.

If it were up to me, and oddly I have not been approached by Lucasfilm, I would have the movies focused on the big stuff. The Jedi, wars, action, etc.

Andor is suited to a small screen story.

MCU is dealing with the same dilemma. How do you get people to the theater when the TV shows are telling similar stories with decent action set pieces?

This means 100% we get the Filoni movie above everything else.

I wouldn't be surprised if we didn't hear about it starting production after the holidays.
I agree. It's the one movie I figured had the best chance at happening out of the 3. I'm still not sure they don't just make it an event movie for D+ with a limited theatrical release.

I think Filoni wants to prove he is really the heir apparent to the Lucas kingdom. I'm pretty sure he'll release it to theaters.

What worries me about a Filoni directing a live action big budget theatrical release is he has never done one before. He is an animation guy. His Clone Wars theatrical release was considered a disaster except it made $69million on $8million budget.

We keep seeing Disney fail with first time big budget directors because they have to listen to corporate. Hopefully that is not the case with Filoni and he is left alone to work and won't get overwhelmed.

Remember that Favreau has been with him on this journey since the beginning to take his animated characters into live action. Favreau has directed many big budget movies. So I suspect Favreau has been giving him pointers along the way, and can even co-direct (or shadow direct) if needed.

Even Lucas had Spielburg on a lot of his projects, so its good that Favreau has been along for the ride with Filoni.

Sounds good. It could actually be the best modern Star Wars movie. Hopefully KK stays out of it.

That's true. But it still needs approval from Kennedy. My only hang up is something we've been talking about with Marvel for a while. And that's the "homework" issue. We've seen it with the marvels and the general complaint of there being a barrier to entry for the mcu. So will Disney make this the triumphant return to theaters for star wars if they think people might hang back because they haven't watched all the D+ shows? I could see it.

Pros: I love his work, generally speaking

Cons: He’s going to direct his first live action feature while also expanding his role to be the chief creative officer of all of Lucasfilm (presumably not jus SW but all facets of the company)

I feel like he’s there as a heat shield to extend Kennedy’s tenure that much longer so she can mentor him in the role

I think him moving into effectively the same role as Feige but for Lucas means that he doesn't need Kennedy for anything but budget approval.

On the "homework" topic, I don't know. Maybe they can do a featurette release in theaters a couple months before the movie is released that show the highlights of all the shows.

Ridley last spoke to THR in late January for her Sundance gem, Sometimes I Think About Dying, and at the time, she didn’t know what was in store for her and Star Wars. That quickly changed in April, when Ridley’s return was announced by director Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy on the Star Wars Celebration stage. She’ll be leading Obaid-Chinoy’s film that’s set 15 years after the events of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker (2019). Peaky Blinders and Locke scribe Steven Knight is helming the script.
“When I was at Sundance, I did not know. I shot my movie [Magpie] when I got back, and I had a breakfast with Kathy [Kennedy] that I thought was just breakfast,” Ridley recalls. “And then it was mentioned, so I thought about it. I loved the story, and I was like, ‘Okay.’ Things then happened quite quickly, and it felt like I was instantaneously on a stage being introduced by [director] Sharmeen [Obaid-Chinoy]. It honestly took me back to being 20 or 21, however old I was, when [Star Wars: The Force Awakens] was announced. I was petrified, I was overwhelmed, I was really nervous but the response was really wonderful. And I’m genuinely really excited about the next one. I haven’t read anything, but I know the story. It’s really worth telling, worth exploring, and I think people will be excited.”

KK will continue to be the business person. Filoni will be the story person and be the practical Feige of SW as he should be. Favreau will likely work with him.

That's how it should have been from the start. It's why star wars has been so all over the place. There's no denying her ability on the business side of things. But a creative she is not.

I wonder if they should have or wanted to get JJ Abrams in that position but he refused due to his other endeavors (Bad Robot). Now, saying that, I know people will throw their hands in the air in protest to the idea of Abrams ever having that position. That's fair. But, during the prequels, they needed SOMEONE to be the "keeper of the story". Now they have that person and almost everyone would agree it's the 100% right person. Throw Favreau into the mix and we have a solid foundation that will bring SW confidence back (hopefully).

Now, we can hope that 2024 will bring all sorts of official announcements and even maybe the start of filming for upcoming movies. Lots of ground to make up. Let's get with it!

That was the rumor sometime after last jedi. That Iger wanted JJ to head up star wars but he wouldn't take it.

If JJ was doing all 3 sequels, I'm positive we get a much more cohesive story at least. I would of rather got 3 films on par with force awakens than the hodge podge we ended up with.

That said, Dave is obviously a better choice. I still question Kennedy's ability to hire the proper people and Dave isn't really suited for that either, at least that I'm aware of. But all in all it's a step forward for star wars for sure.
