LOL I keep reading about Low Crowds, I dont know that I believe it. The crowds thread never discusses the crowds LOL. Is that for real or just Internet Hype about crowd levels?

you really don't believe it? book a trip and see for yourself (or is it too expensive and stressful to go so you're just vacating somewhere else or staying home like many others thus why the parks aren't as crowded).

The spice thing is cool, using the shops for things that are not ride/Disney merch is something that hasn't been done that much since the early 2000s. Saw some pics that there were some other cooking things not related to the ride (notably cookbooks) were also being sold in the shop, which is also cool.

Nah - Roto-Rooter came through to save the day. 😉

The lands have started to reopen.
One of these days they are going to have to close and replace the sewage pipes, they are old and leaky and prone to clogging.
Sounds like an old man........

They did close for an unheard of and unprecedented four months in 2020. Yes, there was a pandemic. But I truly thought they would have taken what will more than likely be a truly once in a lifetime opportunity to have an extended closure of the parks to attend to things like this.

Hindsight is 20:20, but when WDW was shut down for COVID, there was zero inkling that they would be closed as long as they were. They prepared many areas for only a two week closure. When it became clear they would be closed for a while, the goal was not to catch up on work, it was to open again as soon as practical. Starting major infrastructure projects like this when there were material and labor availability issues, and when the reopening date could be scheduled at any time, potentially leaving little time to complete the work, was simply not practical.

Certainly had they known they would be closed for four months and had time to plan in advance, it would have been a golden opportunity, but the (I hate using this phrase) unprecedented nature of the pandemic and the unpredictability of the government regulations and public health situation meant not having that luxury.

Yes, there was a pandemic.
That kinda ignores things like:
  • Requiring six foot distancing
  • Not know just how deadly and/or contagious COVID was and people generally not wanting to die.
  • Not knowing how long they will be without revenue, while fixed expenses continue on... where's the money coming from to pay workers? For how long will savings last before the company starts defaulting on bills?
  • Almost zero access to supplies during the lockdown and world wide shortages following.
