E's birthday cake. She's 19 today! I baked the cake and made the frosting, and she decorated it. It's very her... Combining her hobbies of crafting and gardening with her love of Science. I asked her if she wanted me to decorate it for her, and what she wanted on it, and I suggested DNA strands, and she went looking for DNA strands and vines and came up with this and since she loves doing it, she wanted to do it herself. I think she did a great job!

I knit some sunflowers and tied them to bags of Ferrero Roche chocolates for the hospice to sell at reception (their logo is sunflowers).

E got her birthday present put together.


She didn't do it exactly like the instructions said to. She felt like it was too cluttered and bright, so she left things unpainted, or painted them in more natural colors, and she left out some of the things. The base was supposed to be like yellow or something, and she painted it a more natural grey like actual rocks, and the dome was supposed to be purple I think, and she painted it brown to match a natural wood color. Same with some of the furniture...the desk was supposed to be a light blue, and she did the same dark wood color. And the plant box with the trellis was supposed to be a bright color, too....it was all pastels and everything, but she went with all natural colors and then left out some of the furnishings that were just a bit too much. I think it looks really cute.

I had no idea you were central WI. I thought you were DC area. I grew up in Rockford with most summers spent in the Dells, Door County and Walworth County. I was a counselor in East Troy for 6 years. Was so sorry to see Timber-Lee die. I was a camper there as were all my kids. My parents and grandpa helped build it. I am assuming you are at the county fair. My timeline has been giving me many wet pics of us there over the last 15. Hope you got some fudge!

Born, raised, and still in Chicago(not the suburbs). The Elkhorn antique market is at the Walworth county fair grounds 4x a year. Fudge, no. But we did get some delicious pulled pork sandwiches from the FFA.

I am currently taking care of family at our place in Middle TN, but I also have a place in Chicago part of the year (Lincoln Park). How do the rats not get your tomatoes? I grow mine in chicken wire cages on the deck above my garage, or they are gone just before they get ripe. Beautiful garden BTW!

Oh, the rats have gotten a few. I think it's a combination of picking before they are 100% ripe, rat traps( I caught 15 last year), and dumb luck. Also I hear that rats like dog poop way more than tomatoes( thank you neighbors).
