Piazza San Marco with a Tuscan Villa resembling an Olive Garden next to it, really sums up the current Disney company. At least we know where the "Imagineer" who designed this ugly thing likes to go for dinner, but don't expect any endless bread sticks here.

That's absolutely where it should be.

That would require people to go inside the pavilion to find it, though. Easier for people to stumble across it and spend money when it's out on the walkway.

i think that spot would work great but would block an expansion if they ever decided to add something like perhaps a gondola themed ride through a mock up of venice in the massive plot behind the pavilion.

I've thought that too. Although they could have put the Gelataria basically where it is now and just faced it in the other direction, so you still had to enter through that area of the pavilion. That would leave the opposite side available as a ride entrance/queue.
