Gaston push up challenge...

Considering his disobedience and insubordination it's a wonder he wasn't fired for cause.
no it isn't. if suspension is an option why would you skip that and go straight to firing somebody? not everybody needs to be fired. take it easy. the suspension sends a message to the performers while still keeping a clearly talented man on the roster.

as far as this whole thing goes i loved the pushup contest and i think this particular CM does a great job of protecting the business by accepting challenges (and winning them!). in the future i guess he'll just have to find a way around that particular challenge with a witty response instead of saying "oh i'm not allowed to do that."

^^^ Exactly.

And.... If challenged with a push-up contest...

"I can't let this fine specimen touch the ground!" (Walk them over to a table/garbage can for arm wrestle).

The objective is to make sure the CM is fully meeting his performance standards. Based upon the unsubstantiated reports in this thread, the CM had been counseled before about his inappropriate behavior and ignored the guidance he was given. It's a supervisor's call to decide the next step and level of disciplinary action required based upon the degree of the offense. There are obviously other factors involved of which we are not aware. Suspension may indeed be the best action in this case. However, insubordination can not be tolerated. If he was told not to do pushups but did them anyway, I'd fire him faster than Dashiell "Dash" Parr.

I have been following this story since I first heard about viral Gastons suspension over push-ups. I have found the whole thing utterly ridiculous. Expecially since other friends of Gaston are seen doing push-ups as well. One of which was just posted today.
If it's true he got in trouble, there must be something more to the story and I hope it's not something as silly as people getting offended because he plays his character well, Gaston is supposed to be offensive in the first place. Changing a villains character and making him a nice guy sends the wrong message in my opinion.

Another great video from this Gaston! and that little boy was so cute!

I definitely agree with you. I would have to look up to see when this was filmed since not every video is posted the day the event happened. But if it is recent, that would make me wonder if there was something else with 'push up Gaston' to make them suspend him. Because obviously the 'no ground' rule would be for the entire cast.

"I'll be seeing you later" lol Cracks me up.

There are some other great ones I really found amusing as well that I don't think have been posted on here.

And with none other than Donny Osmond. :)

I've seen the first two...the girl in the pink princess hat is so adorable. The little Belle one is one I haven't see before. That was great. "Who said you could sit in my chair!?"

And OMG I love Donnie Osmond!!!

I'm guessing that the gloves were getting ruined from doing push ups? That is the only reason I can think to ban them from a costume standpoint. Characters are allowed to sit on the ground. I have plenty of pictures of princess sitting on the ground with my daughter when she was 2. Aladdin sat on the ground as well. I guess sitting would be more gentle on the costumes. Unless that is now banned as well.

My other thought is maybe Gaston's were spending too much time with each guest and not getting people though the line. They were having fun doing push ups etc and the line wasn't moving and people missed their turn to meet Gaston. I could see some guests complaining about that. Is there a set amount of time they are supposed to stick to for each guest in a M&G?

Gaston cuts his line, so he will always meet everyone up to the point the line is cut.

Interesting to see videos of other friends doing pushups. Especially since the video is the friend I met January who was insistent to a little girl that push ups would put too much strain on him.

Those videos might be from before the rule change.

In my opinion damage to the costumes is the primary reason we aren't allowed to get on the ground. The company will tell you it's for performer safety though- they just don't want us getting hurt. Kneeling and squatting is ok. We're to keep as little costume as possible from touching the ground. In my experience the princesses typically kneel or take both knees to the ground. Many characters will sit, but remember, just because we do it doesn't mean it's allowed. We just haven't been caught!

FWIW, just last week (Jan. 27th), my daughter (age 13) asked Gaston politely to do the pushup challenge and he said, "I don't do that anymore" kind of in his 'normal' voice rather than 'Gaston' voice. My daughter asked why and he said, "I just don't".

He wasn't rude, just firm in his answer. No biggie, it just seemed odd. Mentioned it to another castmember there and that person told me it has a lot has to do with the character's handler and what they will and won't allow.

Again, not a big deal, the way he reacted just seemed odd.
