Gasoline - hard to get in Orlando?

You have to love those car rental agents. I think they were once used car salesmen that were fired for being too pushy. I am currently in a rental car due to my van being in an accident. The agent was pushing all of this different king of insurance coverage to the tune of around $20 a day.

me: "Uh dude my car insurance already covers me back off"

agent: "Well you know you will have to pay your insurance deductible if you are in an accident."

me: "So let me get this straight. You want me to pay you $420 to avoid the off chance possibility that I might wreck this car and have to pay a $250 deductible?"

agent: "Uhhhh"

me: "That is what I thought. Can I have the keys now?"

:brick::brick::brick:

Yeah, this guy tried to sell me insurance too. He tried to sell me everything under the sun. But he'd lost all credibility by fighting me so hard on the minivan thing.

The guy told me we'd have to take a certain model. I forget what the model was, but someone in our party drives it and we all fit in just fine. But this guy is standing there telling me it's impossible. When I told him we have done it before, he shook his head emphatically and said, "Impossible. Can't be done."

So finally, I said, "Well, I guess someone in my party must be David Blaine because we do it all the time."

After that, he still made an effort to sell me insurance, but it was a half-hearted effort.

Incidentally, when we got to the garage, we were offered our choice of any full-sized car we wanted. Everything the guy at the counter told me was a bold-faced lie. So, be warned!

My guy tried to get me to pay for an Escalade! I told the guy no. Give me the cheapest car you have. My insurance only covers $20 a day and I am already going to have to pay a $250 deductible because some bone head ran a light, hit my van and then took off so the last thing I want to do right now is give you an extra $50 a day for the next 3 weeks.

Well, I guess it's good to know they are consistent!

I'd never rented a car before, so the experience took me by surprise. I had read a blurb in the unofficial guide warning me that they would probably try to sell unnecessary insurance. But I wasn't expecting them to tell me day is night.

Anyway, if anyone tries to scare you into thinking there is no gasoline in the Orlando area, they are definitely trying to scam you!

Just FYI, if you are going through the Charlotte, NC area we are still really low on gas all the way around. The only gas we are getting is 87 octane and lots of long lines and angry people so if you can schedule your gas stops before and after Charlotte it would be wise.

As part of the year of a million dreams and for your tank-filling pleasure Walt Disney World has partnered with Hess to provide gasoline at three locations on Disney Property, none of which feature a shortage (besides the shortage of not enough pumps for the number of cars waiting for fuel during peak times.) Hess stations are at Downtown Disney (across from the Pleasure Island Sign ), Near the Boardwalk Resort, and leaving the Magic Kingdom Main Parking lot (TTC).

Sorry feeling like being offical about statements right now.

And just to add on, the prices at Hess on property are among the lowest. Don't be 'fueled' (sorry!) into thinking prices would be cheaper outside the World. You could spend .10 more per gallon offsite.

Ok, so this thread was from a few weeks ago, but we're driving down in 10 days (yeah!) and I'm wondering if the gas situation (mainly in Tennessee and Georgia) has gotten any better. My husband likes to wait until we're down to 1/8 tank before refilling (and he hates it when I nag him to get some, when we're at 1/4 tank) so I'm wondering if I have to bug him a lot, or if the gas supplies have come back to normal.

Thanks for the update!

Watching the news tonight I saw a story that Georgia which was suffering outtages a few weeks ago was back to normal and that gas was I believe $2.79 a gallon....which is what I fueled up for here in Indianapolis yesterday. I was happy that $30 got me almost 11 gallons and 3/4 tank in my truck :sohappy:

pretty sad that we cheer 2.80 a gallon when a few years ago it was $1.25-1.50

Everything is back to normal (and cheaper) in TN too!

Gas is PLENTIFUL on the tennessee/georgia line, and prices are dropping rapidly. I filled up my tank in Chattanooga today for 2.99/ gal. Here's hoping it lasts!
