Garden Grill Not Rotating

I just saw on another Disney board that it was being talked about that the Garden Grille is not currently rotating, and apparently has not been for some time. Just curious if anyone who had been lately noticed this or knows anything about it? I can't say I remember seeing anything about it, and might be disappointed if I had a reservation and was expecting it to be rotating.

It was rotating last time we went in September! I don't know if they mean more recently than that though. I love the rotating aspect of the restaurant. I would be bummed too if I went and it didn't rotate.

I think you are correct. I remember eating lunch there last May because it was so crowded down below in Sunshine Seasons that they had to open GG up for seating. I'm 95% sure we didn't move while we were eating lunch.

Especially if there trying to be Green(ahahahaha, its funny because its at the LAND) it would not rotate when not being used. I would suspect the motor is efficient, but made to rotate probably 100 000lbs so, not the best when no ones using it.

I read some recent posts on TripAdvisor where some noted the lack of it rotating...some said it would be 'down' for a few weeks.

It was rotating when we ate there last October. Would still go whether rotating or not, the food is very good. And I can get a hug from Farmer Mickey. :)

Rotated in Jan. but i commented on how it did not even seem like we were moving. He said they slowed down the rotation due to people saying it rotated to quickly.
IDK if that is true but that was my convo with the CM

I have a few thoughts on this...

First, I'd like to hope that people going to eat here are told at check-in that the restaurant is not rotating and are offered a choice to still eat there or go somewhere else without a cancellation fee.

I also think there should be some notation on the WDW website stating something to the effect that the rotating part of the experience is down or under maintenance so that people won't reserve and then get there only to realize it's not rotating.

Lastly, I think they should either close the restaurant until the issue is fixed or offer discounted dining while the rotation feature is down (in addition to giving diners a choice to go somewhere else as I mentioned).

I'm planning to dine here for the first time this coming September, but I will likely change those plans if for some reason the rotating feature is not working by then. For me, it's not just a matter of the unique feature of rotating, but also my love for the LWTL ride, which you get to see part of as you rotate.

The Garden Grill not rotating would be like the Sci-Fi Dine in having a broken projector and not showing anything on the screen while you eat...not nearly as enjoyable or fun of an experience IMHO.

I don't agree that the restaurant not rotating should allow people to cancel their ADRs without penalty. As we all know, nothing is guaranteed by Disney to be operational. But do people really go mainly because the restaurant turns?o_O I would think the characters and the food would all be much more important. It is not as if it turns that quickly, you can barely notice it.

There are plenty of other places to go for character meals. I don't care about going there, but if I did, yes; I think a big part of the draw would be the uniqueness of eating in a rotating restaurant. While it's true that nothing is a "guarantee" with Disney, there are certain things that are assumed to be true. I don't think it's unreasonable for someone to be able to change their ADR if something that changes the restaurant's atmosphere, and hence, part of the overall experience, has changed. We're not talking about giving out free meals; we're just talking about not charging the cancellation penalty so that the guests could then eat somewhere else, most likely still at WDW (if they were already planning to eat in the park, I would say odds are pretty high they would just find somewhere else to eat in the park, especially if they are not made to pay a penalty for changing).

No, it's not a thrill ride. The point of the rotating is that the scenery changes. I probably wouldn't mind so much it not rotating as long as I got to request what table I was seated at.
