Another difference was in older ones there more minor characters having exchanges with the major ones, it breathed a little more life into the world on the screen. I think they just didn't have time to do the proper pacing.

Watched an old episode, The Mountain and the Viper....man the acting, the writing, so much better

The Viper is bad- and one of my favorite characters.
