Galaxy Edge Rant

Okay So first I love that Disney has put this much effort into a new land and the detail looks amazing. Like details we haven’t seen from Disney recently. But my biggest complaint with this new land is there is only one ride now and one more later on.

Come on, you’re going to build a 14 acre land and only have 2 rides? Couldn’t they have had some small ride through rides like the size of Snow White and Mr Toad? I think Walt wouldn’t have allowed this land to open with just 1 ride. I think they should have put in several small scale rides also.

Your thoughts ?

Your points have been discussed thoroughly in the main Galaxy's Edge thread, I think everyone agrees it'd be awesome to have had more than 2 rides regardless of their scale and quality.

As far as Walt not allowing it to open with only one ride... he opened New Orleans Square with zero rides, Pirates didn't open till a few months after the land- and Mansion didn't open for another 2 years.

Eight months to be exact.

Walt opened New Orleans Square in July, 1966 with no rides operating, even though the Haunted Mansion exterior had been completed in early 1963. It had two restaurants and a handful of shops, but no rides. But that didn't stop Walt from flying out the mayor of the real New Orleans, Mayor Shapiro, to cut the ribbon with a pretty Disneyland Ambassador and invite everyone in to shop and eat to their hearts content.

Pirates of the Caribbean and the Blue Bayou Restaurant didn't open until eight months later, in March, 1967. Walt had passed away by then. Club 33 upstairs in New Orleans Square opened later in '67. The Haunted Mansion remained a finished facade that wouldn't open for another two years, until August, 1969.

This obviously wasn't how they wanted to open Star Wars Land, and the problems with the Rise of the Rumormongers ride must have half the Imagineering staff on anti-depressants and double-martinis by now. But it's not unheard of within the context of Disneyland history.

I'll take a pass on the anti-depressants, but happily accept a double-martini and raise a toast to imperfect openings in the grand Disneyland tradition!

WWOHP opened with basically one major ride and a small roller coaster for toddlers, no saw it as a big deal. And frankly I rather have two E tickets instead of one E ticket and a bunch of small spinners to fill out the rest which is basically what they do with every major land that has more than two rides in it like Carsland and TSL. If they opened a third ride that's all it would've been.

It also had a full sized roller coaster (well 2) when it opened.

Yeah but that was just an overlay of an old roller coaster already there. Sure its part of the new land but it was literally the the same ride as before, just with new paint a more themed queue.

Its replacement opens in two weeks. A brand new, all Harry Potter themed coaster.

Oh yeah know all about it and it looks and sounds great. In fact Universal has a few cool things this summer themselves but it seems to be overshadowed on both coasts thanks to the Star Wars hype.

Those are 2 BIG rides that will have huge lines. They aren't going to have a Pirates situation where everyone is lined up outside and around taking up space that is better utilized for shops and food locations. Star Wars already has 2 other attractions (Star Tours and Space Mountain) in Tomorrowland plus Launch Bay.

Anyways, my rant is Batuu is not Star Wars original trilogy. It's counterfeit. If only they did Tatooine and Naboo, it'll make much more sense and timeless. In contrast, Wizarding World of Harry Potter has all the major locations in the movies. You can trace the exact timeline as you experienced the books and movies. Go from Diagon Alley to Hogmeade, then return from Hogswarts Castle back to Gringott's Bank. It's all there. At Galaxy's Edge, you visit a village that was never featured in in the movies. The Millennium Falcon with authentic interiors is all you got. Even the Cantina is counterfeit. It isn't the original one in Tatooine.

Wait, didn't we already have one of these threads started already?

I know, I know, if its not on the front page people think it doesn't exist.
