G-Force report

A Florida newspaper has a great article about G-Forces on Disney and Universal rides. It looks like Channel 6 is doing a report today too.

Pretty good information for those curious about G-forces.

I would have like to have seen them compare the G-forces to everyday things such as taking off and landing in an airplane though. I believe a plane on take-off exerts 2 G's on the body (less than MS).

What I found really interesting was the finding the German cardiologist that provided findings that the anticipation was worse than the G-forces for those with heart conditions.

By the way, how many people in Florida are giving themselves concussions today after reading this passage??? :hammer:

To understand the effect of a strong, but quick, force on your body, hit yourself in the head with the heel of your hand. That can produce as many as 10 G's of force, yet causes no harm because it last just a few milliseconds, according to a study by the Brain Injury Association of America.

I was testing this theory and came to the conclusion that it is false. If you give your self a good smack there is a little pain. :brick: :hammer:

Local 6 is desperate for viewers! I'm watching the report now and it's boring and uninformative to me... a coaster nut!

Problem Solvers huh... What problem did they solve? Nothing! Just a ploy to get people to watch and realize their product is terrible! Steven Stock from Channel 2 should work at 6. Sensationalism at it's best!

Thank you for the great link.

I was reading the MOU Exempt Facilities Report and was surprised to read that there were two fatalities at the Mummy Ride and the Incredible Huilk Coaster (both persons were in their thirties) in 2003 and 2004.

Does anyone have more informations on these?

I believe that one person died before even getting on the Mummy. He fell into the track area at the loading station, hit his head on died from complications.

I'm not sure about the other one though...

I thought that this was a report about a refurb. of rock'n'roller coaster starring Aerosmith. That's their "sponsor"- G Force records.

I thought the article was TERRIBLE. I get the Florida Today and when I first read it, I almost flipped my lid. It is extremely biased and they hardly even use information from roller coasters. Most of it comes from ToT and M:S, clearly not roller coasters. And why did they mention Typhoon Lagoon? There are definitely no roller coasters there.

It made me so angry that I wrote a letter to the editor.

People will make the meaning of a story what they want it to be, so you can't really get offended by anyone's opinions.
On a personal level, this just makes it harder to convince my COMPLETELY HEALTHY girlfriend to ride ToT and RnRC.

Really?

I'm a self confessed coaster chicken but after readingt the article it made me feel better about my attempt to get over my coaster fear...

I thought the articles were very interesting. Good read.

There is NO reason to import federal regulations to oversee the attractions though. The parks have their own staff that do a great job. It would be such a waste of time and money to do so like in California. Over there, if someone gets dizzy they'll shut a ride down for months. Completely ridiculous. That does not need to happen in Florida.
